RMweb Gold nest Posted September 16, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2014 Hi Nestor, I like the idea of making your own Trees, that's yet another skill I need to learn for Bitton, what will you use for flock? All the best Bodge. Hi Bodge Depends on the tree. Some I use horsehair covered in scatter, others I use the foliage clusters from woodland scenic. Both are good when I you have a collection of trees standing together. Nestor
RMweb Gold nest Posted September 16, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2014 afternoon all Away from scenic, I picked my self up a C class over the weekend at Coventry. I've ordered some Southern transfers to replace the BR logo on the sides which meant I had to remove the BR logos. This is pretty easy and took all of a minute for each one. Just a little nail varnish remover on a cotton bud did the trick... Once the new transfers are applied, I'll lightly weather the loco. I'll also eventually renumber it but that'll be a wee bit later... Nestor

RMweb Gold nest Posted September 17, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 17, 2014 Evening all So my transfers arrived today which is mighty exciting. I'll get on with them tomorrow.. I also got round to getting the rest of the gravel stuck down in the wood yard area and it is now ready to paint. This is something else I hope to get done tomorrow. I'll get some photos up when there is something to show...All mighty exciting stuff I'm sure you'll agree Nestor P.S. some of these emoticons are ridiculous... Jaz
Hi there JCL, glad you like what you see. I can only apologise for the incredibly slow progress though haha I'm thinking of perhaps moving to a blog with this project as it may well better suit my pace of progress. However I quite like being able to have the style of discussion available on a thread so maybe not. Either way, stay tuned for my return to England and hopefully my return to modelling.... Nestor stick to layouts, much easier to keep up to date and find you.Lots of people don't post every day or even every week or month.softly softly catchee mousey
RMweb Gold nest Posted September 19, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 19, 2014 Evening all Finally got round to painting the gravel area. I'm quite pleased with the rough finish I've managed to get out of it... I also slightly extended one of the hedges to the end of the baseboard. The plan is to place a low relief wooden warehouse kind of building at the end of the board in the style of those that stood at Hawkhurst... Whilst doing all of this, I noticed that I managed to model a field that had no access to it. This was quickly rectified with the addition of a gate I had knocking about and some very dark static grass... The only thing that is now bothering me slightly is the track. Having seen finescale track with handbuilt points used so well elsewhere, it is growing ever more tempting to tear up my Peco stuff and replace it with said finescale track. (not that I'm blaming you George but this totally you and you're point buildings fault... ) Anyway, we shall see how things pan out with that. Next up: Transfers! RMweb Gold nest Posted September 22, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2014 Hi guys I was having a tidy of the layout this morning as a lot of crap had managed to congregate on it. This allowed me to have a good look at how it currently looks and what I want the next few jobs to be. Mainly, I want to get on with wiring. I think I have put it off so far due to my lack of knowledge on the subject and lack of equipment. I'm sure, however, once I take the plunge and start with it I'll get onto a roll with it as this seems to be what happened with most modelling things I do... RMweb Gold nest Posted September 22, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 22, 2014 Evening all I took a series of photos today of two staged trains. These are both trains which will be part of the operating sequence once the layout is wired up. The reason to do this was to give myself a little incentive/whopping great kick up the backside to begin the wiring.... Anyway, enjoy them! RMweb Gold nest Posted September 23, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2014 I absolutely didn't just order 4 metres of C&L finescale track in an attempt to see how much I really want to tear my track and start again... Stay tuned for further developments... Nestor

Stay tuned for further developments... Nestor Hi Nest, I think your in for a BIG BIG shock, the difference is astounding, just look at layouts like Jason's Bacup, or Tony Wrights Little Bytham, they and many many more on here are impressive layouts, only to be enhanced by the better track IMHO. Bodge.
RMweb Gold nest Posted September 23, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2014 My plan is to use the finescale track on a small diorama so I can get used to working with it before committing to replacing the track on Sandhurst. I've also got to learn to build points... Having seen Jason's work on Bacup to name but one example, I need no convincing that it looks a heck of a lot better than Peco. For me, it's just a case of taking the plunge. Today could be considered me taking a tiny step, we'll just have to see how it all works out.... RMweb Gold nest Posted September 24, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 24, 2014 I think I've discovered the seed to all this finescale lark that I'm jumping head first into, as of today I'm no longer a teenager. This has obviously had an effect on my approach to the hobby, no longer do I recklessly throw things at a baseboard and hope for the best like the rebellious young teen I was. In these adult days, it's all about taking my time and seeing what works best. Oh and moaning. A lot. ...I already miss being 19... georgeT
Hi Nestor, The two things l have found out with building your own track is being good with a soldering iron and using a file ? all you need is code 75 bullhead rail and some copper clad sleepers, and a 00 track gauge, and you're away the rest is easy, believe me its not as hard as it seems, nice to see you got your C Class at coventry, very nice... Regards George
