RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted September 18, 2018 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 18, 2018 Where the #### has this thread gone? So, today's news is that I am now fitted for DCC; that does not stand for Decontaminated Cost Cutting. I have, courtesy of the NHS (may God bless it and all who sail in it) been fitted with a pair of Decoders and can now: hear what is going on; start up (including cold start and unsuccessful start); shut down (nothing different there then); make several hooting sounds; replicate sleeper groan; flange squeal like a piggy make coupling sounds; close and open my doors; coast; idle (also nothing changed there then); notch; fade (could do that already without a chip); exhaust my tanks; tick like a ticky thing whilst standing. There could be more functions but I CBA to find them. I shall try myself on the layout later today. Ar$£

eastwestdivide
I have to go to Edinburgh. In November. By plane. Anything worth visiting? There's a big red railway bridge quite near the airport. Cafe with tasty snacks nearly underneath the north end of the bridge. And a display of tins of red oxide paint among other things in the railway station waiting room next to the north end of the bridge.
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted September 18, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 18, 2018 Some people say that red meat is bad for you. I disagree. It's green meat that's bad for you. I thank you. So green milk, and green meat are bad for you, I see a trend here. Green salad must also be bad for you. I have been trying to tell Mrs M that for years. RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted September 18, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 18, 2018 I have to go to Edinburgh. In November. By plane. Anything worth visiting? I think there is some old banger called Hoots Mons Meg, but she may not be your type. ISTR going there during my first honeymoon in 1974. It rained so we went to the cinema and watched Blazing Saddles. We must have had some sort of breakfast on the train from Morpeth, because I distinctly recall watching the buffet steward pouring hot coffee in a lady’s lap. She was not impressed. And the railway station is quite impressive. Most other things are out of town, eg Linlithgow for Mary Queen of Scots history lesson Falkirk for a spin in a big wheel North Berwick for National Museum of Flight and the seaside What's not to like? American tourist walking around in their newly purchased tweed jackets saying how they feel at home (because they think have a Scottish ancestry) with their genuine Scottish Mac Donalds burger in their hands. brianusa
Edinburgh is one of those towns that either one loves or hates! Its cold and damp on cold and damp days but in the sun the city shines. Depending on ones interest, castles, Regency houses and early city planning take it out of the ordinary but there is plenty of ordinary all around! Otherwise it could be any large city anywhere, congestion, tourists, traffic and a couple of nice parks to ponder why you came all this way up! Big railway station but no green engines! Have a nice trip! Brian.
