Dave F's photos - ongoing - more added each day

Hi Dave,

You're spoiling me with yet more S&C delights, its the first time I've seen a 47' on the TCE back in those green days and that same photo also means I need to get my paintbrushes out again as its the only photo which I've seen showing a pink hue to the platform edge paving, do I say

Hi, Dave. Excellent photo's of the Settle and Carlisle line today. The first one of Black 5 45461 is good. It reminds me, to an extent, of a model, as already mentioned.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

We are used to being spoiled on this thread but now we are REALLY being spoiled.

With the biggest thanks I can muster - without actually parting with cash  :).

Hi Dave,

Luckily for me I was worn out last night so no painting (or any other modelling) was attempted, probably best if I leave it as it is, many thanks for sharing more wonderful S&C shots.

As you are modelling a bygone era you are fortunate in not having to drastically weather your rolling stock but I presume most of it has to be scratch or kit built, my hat is off to you.

J912 is not a 108 or even a pair thereof but an assemblage of the Cravens units with huge combined destination and headcode boxes - Class 112 or 113.

Chris

Agreed..... and the only time I saw any of these, was a raft of a dozen or so being dragged through Cardiff General en route to T.W.Ward's Giant's Grave yard and ultimately, oblivion.

I wouldn't repaint your platform edge just yet, I don't think the colours on parts of that slide are anything like "correct", parts of it had a definite pink tinge,

and we do apparently see the past through rose tinted spectacles.

Today would have been Dad's 90th birthday, so I thought we'd have some more of his photos taken in Harrogate during 1965 .  Once again the images are from half frame slides.

That would make your Dad four days younger than my Mum! I've just returned from celebrating her birthday and I'm just catching up with the thread. Had I realised, I would have raised a glass to your Dad as well - no matter, I shall do so when I next crack open a bottle of red, in grateful thanks for this wonderful catalogue of stunning pictures that thrills us every day, capturing an era when I was (very slightly) too young to fully appreciate what was happening on (and off) the railway!

Cheers!!!

Hi, Dave. Lovely photo's, and nice to see the class 124 at Brough. All places are local for me, and more can, of course, be seen in my East Yorkshire thread.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Nice pictures again Dave, especially interesting to see Brough 50 years ago.  Looks like 158784 "Barbara Castle" in DSC_7369, from the graphics.  Thanks again for posting these!

Excellent pictures David. J6989 is interesting; I never knew there were 2+9 HSTs running about in 1980. (Which is probably the cue for someone to post a link to a thread where it was discussed at length...)

As I mentioned a few posts ago, many of these somewhat troubled children were cut up in South Wales.

.

Most were stored at Rose Grove following withdrawal, and from there despatched en-masse to Rugby where they were stripped of reusable fittings (including their engines) during September 1969.

.

From there they were dragged  (I believe) to T.W.Ward at Giant's Grave, Briton Ferry.

The rake I saw heading west through Cadiff General included MBS cars M51731 / 38 / 40 / 42/ 49 / 52 and MC cars 51758 / 59 / 64

.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the date.

J3595 - very unusual view, I take it the loco was running tender(s) first.

You could use this one as a warning - "Don't trespass, this could be the last photo you might take of Flying Scotsman"

jim

Flying Scotsman was on its way from Market Overton to Nottingham, at Market Overton it faced south, so it had to run tender first to Barkston via High Dyke and Grantham, where it went along the south to east connection so it was facing the right way round to go to Nottingham.

Dad was standing on the end verandah of (I think) the GER saloon belonging to Bill McAlpine when he took the photo.

Hi, Dave. Lovely photos of Peascliffe Tunnel on the ECML. In J6989, the last photo', it is the time when the catering cars on the class 254 HST's were marshalled saloon to saloon between the first class and second class sections of the trains.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Not just steel coil (Ravenscraig to Shotton?); the first wagon's an empty BXA, used to carry large steel plates at an angle. It'll be heading back to Scunthorpe, which was the BSC plant that specialised in such things, presumably having visited the Clyde shipyards.
