Good evening, David. I like the ECML photo’s at Southside in Northumberland. All are full of interest and show how the OLE changed the appearance of the line. In C12060, with 31320, on a down ballast train, on the 14th June, 1989, you can see the 31 is a bit shabby, and that both this photo’ and the next one must have taken in the evening if I’m right about the direction and angle of the sun.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good afternoon, David. I like the Llanberis Lake Railway photo’s which show how delightful it is, and some lovely Welsh scenery. In the first photo’, at the Llanberis museum, with the workmans car and slate wagons, in August, 1972, the seats on the workman’s car look exceptionally angled, and seem quite uncomfortable.

The Midland line photo’s between Nottingham and Loughborough are full of interest, and in C14122, at Trent Lane crossing, with 150136 on an up service, on the 22nd December, 1989, you can see the way the 150/1 is weathered, and how the low, weak sunlight accentuates it.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Yes, it was.

I visited the Llanberis Lake that August* as a teenager on holiday with my parents. We went up Snowdon too, but here's the picture I took that day:

Maybe not a brilliant photo but it was an imperfect day and the camera was a Brownie 127.

Thank you David for your continuing contribution to this web site.  I'm sorry I don't comment more often but I appreciate your posts every day. The Llanberis pictures reminded me of family trips to Wales when I was allowed to enjoy my love of trains. On one visit my brother was invited into the cab of a DMU to sound the horn, I was really p***ed off as he didn't even care, he just thought it was fun..

C12063, a very model-able train. Class 37 on the front. 4xbox opens (Bachmann), 5xPFA (accurascale), 2xpolybulks on the end (Bachmann). The only thing missing is the two bogie wagons after the PFA (look like the bogie tipping wagons?)

Nice to see a 155. Plenty of them still around as 153s but I didn't realise until I checked that some survived as 155s and I seem to have seen very few photos.

Jonathan

As you no doubt discovered, it was the 35 sets (301-335) that were built for BR that were converted to 70 single car 153 units.

The 7 sets built for WYPTE (341-347) remain as 2-car 155 units. Not sure if there was any difference, aside from livery and ownership, between the batches.

Good evening, David. I like the photo’s from just to the north of Newcastle on the ECML. All are of interest and the first photo is a good portrait of that unidentified class 47, at Manors, on an up light engine movement, in June, 1987. I wonder if anyone can indentify it?

With warmest  regards,

 Rob.

Excellent pictures again David,  hard to believe the abandoned tracked on C18163 was once an electrified railway.

Since this picture was taken housing has appeared on this site and part of the track bed built on which is a shame as if the Teesside metro was ever built that could have been a good link for west Stockton and winyard

Good evening, David. I like the photo’s from between Newcastle and Middlesbrough. All are of interest and are full of nostalgia. In C18585, at Hartlepool, with 142019, on a Middlesbrough to Newcastle service, on the 3rd June, 1993, you have  quite a contrast between the 142 and the rundown station, which had clearly seen better days.

With warmest regards,

The up platform had been closed for a while when this was taken,  the footbridge was still there but gates off with wooden gates.  Not sure when it officially closed but now demolished

Good evening, David. I like the Scottish photo’s which are full of interest. The first photo’ of Dalwhinnie signal box on the 15th October, 1988, is a great three quarter view of the box, which shows off the brick and wood design very clearly. In the last photo’, of  Newton on Ayr, on the 18th February, 1990, you have a great view of two 08 shunters, 08586, and 08561.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. I like the latest Carlisle photo’s which all have much of interest. In the last photo’, of 90001, on an up service, departing on the 24th October, 1990, you have a good front view of the 90.

Fancy having to travel all the way from Newcastle (or possibly Sunderland) in that Pacer, at least it's not the Leyland version.

It might be even  worse - some worked through from Middlesbrough to Carlisle.
