Chris-GNR
Evening all... Nothing like a dead line to help re-focus what's currently on the bench. With The Mill out on the 11th March, I though I better get these excellent wagons built by Jason finally fitted with AJs. I'm hoping to make a start this evening. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/118941-emgs-the-4th-chris-kedgley-memorial-skills-day/ Cheers Chris
RMweb Premium Jason T Posted February 27, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 27, 2017 Quick correction for Jeff; the layout appears in the Chris Kedgeley Skills Day advert in MRJ and not in an article although I am still chuffed to bits that something we built is in there and who knows, maybe an article will be forthcoming in the future....... RMweb Gold Donw Posted February 28, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 28, 2017 Quick correction for Jeff; the layout appears in the Chris Kedgeley Skills Day advert in MRJ and not in an article although I am still chuffed to bits that something we built is in there and who knows, maybe an article will be forthcoming in the future....... I am pretty sure MRJ would welcome an article on something of this quality. I have read MRJ since issue 0. The Mill would not be out of place. Chris-GNR
Morning all... The underside of the 7 plank open showing the AJ mounts located down inbetween the underfame. Just needs the droppers adding & the mounts painting dirty black. Really hoping to have all 6 wagons done (3 left to do) in time for the Skills day on Sat 11th March in Littleborough. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/118941-emgs-the-4th-chris-kedgley-memorial-skills-day/ Cheers Chris
Ruston
What are the brass things, that look like claws, on the bottom of the wagon?
Chris-GNR
Afternoon Ruston Its part of the mount for the coupling & its purpose is to ensure the hook wire returns to the correct height, centrally & allows sideways deflection when engaging with another coupling. See this post for more detail, http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/90024-the-mill/page-16&do=findComment&comment=1882039 Cheers Chris

RMweb Premium Jason T Posted March 11, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2017 Well, another event over (Chris Kedgeley Skills Day in Littleborough near Rochdale) and it was a cracking do; well patronised, excellent demos, friendly and relaxed. From opening until 4pm, we had people chatting to us about the layout, locos and stock, to the point where I am now exhausted (and pretty sure Chris is too). I only took two photos of the layout, and only one which will be of interest here. The layout is next out on 8/9 April, same venue, at the Rochdale MRG show: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/119808-rochdale-model-railway-groups-2017-exhibition/
RMweb Premium Jason T Posted March 11, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2017 Ok, here is the other photo. The Avonside is being built by Chris for Andy York and Andy Banks, for Tackeroo, their WW1 era layout of the military railway on Cannock Chase. Chris brought it along in case anyone was interested (they were) and popped an old chip in it so it could have a run (which it did, faultlessly) .
RMweb Premium Physicsman Posted March 11, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 11, 2017 Glad to hear the day went very well. Such a simple layout, but a hell of a lot of work put in by the two of you. Look forward to having a play, sometime! Jeff
Leander
Great to see 'The Mill' again this morning Jason. You're right though, it does need a bit more illumination to realy show the layout off to the best effect. Looking forward to seeing you again at the RMRG show at The Coach House, Littleborough in four weeks time. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/calendar/event/1729-53rd-rochdale-model-railway-exhibition/ http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/119808-rochdale-model-railway-groups-2017-exhibition/ Edited March 11, 2017 by Leander

RMweb Premium Popular Post Jason T Posted April 8, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 8, 2017 The layout is out and about this weekend, at the Rochdale show in Littleborough. Not taken many photos but did get one of the latest loco on the roster, a Judith Edge Ruston 88DS, which was built a while ago but had it's first run today.
stevejjjexcov
Hi Jason. Can I ask if its ok for me to use your track plan with a small alteration. I don't have access to a computer. So templot and like facilities are a closed avenue to me. The layout will be for my use and not for exhibition. Your work is outstanding and deserves all the accolades it receives. All the best Steve
RMweb Premium Jason T Posted April 14, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted April 14, 2017 Hi Steve, thanks for the compliment and no problems whatsoever with using the track plan. I'm sure we're not the first to use it and I am sure we won't be the last.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Jason T Posted May 19, 2017 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 19, 2017 Well there's a turn-up for the books; we knew the layout was going to be in MRJ but never imagined that it would be on the front cover!
coachmann
Congratulations Jason and everyone involved. One question; Where do you obtain those little lead balls and the gum they are suspended in? I often found this in clients locos and it was great for cramming into those odd spaces in loco bodies and chassis. Usually £8 odd a kilo with free postage. Plenty of suppliers.

Next time you're fitting wagon buffers can you put them on the right way up..... Just joshing but the three quarter rib on the four rib buffer goes at the top to provide a landing for the shunters pole, don't worry plenty people do it. All the best Jason and Chris, well done getting in the MRJ. Dave Franks
