Oxfordrail - Adams Radial

Interesting that "under the boiler block" issue is no worse in green – I rather expected it would. I’ve looked at some photographs of it and the wheels appear to be unpainted. That’s fine in black but looks rather horrible in a light colour. Translucent steel!

The wheels are fully painted in matching green on the drivers, and moulded on the other wheels, the tyres and face edges are blackened metal finish. Axle ends are metal.

The black version was fully painted as well.

I have not checked the pickup arrangements as yet. It runs OK over Peco points (code 75 electrofrog), also over old dead frog Farish Formoway points on my test rack.

What is the pick up arrangement on the radial? Apologies if this has been posted earlier in the thread.

The pickups are on the main drivers and the radial trailing wheel, which is slightly sprung.

Collected my LSWR Adams Radial this morning and overall I am very pleased with it. For the benefit of anyone wanting to see it I took some pictures with it on some code 75 track placed on the mantle in my office. In the pictures the block under the boiler looks a lot worse than it does in real life I think this is due to poor lighting and the fact that I took the pictures with my phone.

Some pictures with it in a layout setting will most likely appear on my Oak Hill thread on Tuesday Evening for anyone wanting to see them.

Correction, the colour of the wheels is moulded plastic, no paint on the spokes, but it needs very bright light to tell it is not paint. the rims are painted, and the rest blackened.

The under boiler area is slightly odd, the casting forms part of the underside at the back, and is black. If it was painted green at the edge, the front area would show badly, so best left as is, the line along the bottom of the green is at least level and even.

This is one of those models that I will end up buying even though there is absolutely no realistic reason it would appear in my 'up north, early 60's' scenario.

In that it will join DP1, the Railway Children Pannier and Dapols Western. No doubt will be joined by a Worth Valley 'USA' in due course!

Thanks again. I was starting to wonder after seeing BlueLightning’s fourth pic.

That all sounds very sensible to me. Especially the USA!

Thanks for that, Stephen. Sounds like loco runs well on your tracks. I'm going for a Hornby one as hopefully the probable level of detail, wheels, finish etc would match my t9 and m7. But the lswr green oxford rail one does look good in the pics posted here. Hmm.

We are in danger of accidentally forgetting the high standard of the whole model in commenting on small issues, the detailing  is fabulous even by the latest standards, the cab and the windows are superb in finish, only the coal load realism is poor. The windows are particularly fine and are as near scale as possible. It just needs coaches of the same high standard..... Oxford could look to specialising in a good selection of really high standard coaches.

I'm sure I pre ordered one of the green versions from Hattons ages ago. I'd check but seeing as I've lost my password for the site, it won't let me reset and also my debit card has since expired, hopefully they'll ring me if infact I had pre ordered one!

It is the expired debit or credit card that causes this, I have had it happen to me. They will sort out over the phone. It's the huge delivery times that are at the bottom of this problem. The industry must sort it's self out and restrain themselves from early announcements that cause such frustration.

Retailers are as much to blame. Bachmann for example announce every March that in the next 18 months (which okay is questionable anyway) they will introduce... and immediately retailers advertise them as being new for [that year] which plainly many will not be.

Your best bet would be to ring them. I am sure they will find your order with a few details.

Given that the retailers are in competition with each other, I suspect any retailer deciding not to take a pre-order because they have doubts about it being out within the year would loose an order to someone else who is.

Just because retailers advertise it within 24 hours of it being annouced does not mean we have to preorder it within 24 hours after that.

In anycase pre-orders give retailers a chance to estimate stock that they will eventually need to order and manufacturers an idea how many to make. This is more critical than ever with the ever increasing prices because - put simply - it has become extremely hard to estimate how many they sell. Most will now sell a lot less than they used to, but the odd item will still pop out and break the record books. Unsold stock is money tied up, and eventually can equate to a loss .

Hattons keep emailing me steadily about my pre-order of a NER Q 0-8-0 (the last saying expect it around midsummer 2016) - so on this basis it looks as if you didn't pre-order.

Turns out I did order one. A nice lady from Hattons phoned on Sunday tlling me my card had been declined due to expiry. Now on its way to sunny Nottinghamshire!
