Hi Adam

Yes that wagon at Cinderford does look like a Thornycroft Sturdy, same as the one from the other day at Crawley.

Thanks for pointing out Pauls Staines photos, and full marks to Paul for taking the unusual in the first place.

Merfyn.

Absolutely, life as modellers would be far more difficult without the sort of resource that Paul provides, and these trailers are a case in point. Not least because I have quite a few bits handy suitable for the use of...

Thanks Merfyn- I know what you mean about the manufacturers' 'speculative' artwork, as I think I've seen examples before- it was the lack of signwriting on what looked very much like an interpretation of BR livery that made me wonder. A quick Google hadn't turned up any photographic evidence of BR Trojans, hence the question.

Wouldn't be too surprised to see one released though....!

Yes they probably will, to go with the other ficticous models, Austin A35, Red & cream Morris Minor, Leyland Octopus, BRS Noddy van, Scammell & AEC artics, and many others.

Talking of ficticious liveries or just plain 'wrongness' of vehicles on layouts, can I get away with this chap on a mid-70s layout or would they have been long gone by then? I was aiming to have it parked up next to a stationary mess coach in a backwater engineers yard.

We're a bit limited in N gauge as to what's available, particularly as I don't like the models with filled/solid windows (whitemetal for example).

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave777, I have tried unsuccessfully to find photos of Minor vans with BR. I believe they had about 20 Austin Minor vans in about 1971/2, the last year of production. Livery then would have been yellow with black arrows (as that model). Normal life span for a small van was 4 years so 1972-1976 OK.

Now where do I find that video ?

I wish I could be more specific, but I can't remember which one it is. There was a Mk.1 Escort van in the same livery on another (DVD actually, so many films collated). The Minor was more of a surprise, I'll admit!

I smiled when I saw your model of a Bristol SC. You didn't like driving them did you....icon_razz.gif

Grapevine tells me you are a man of means and leasure now Merfyn. It only seems like yesterday you left Crosville to join BR S&T. No more changing the points in Blaenau then...icon_thumbsup2.gif

Chees Larry, maybe more time for modeling now. Still working on the points, but the 2 foot ones now and those upstairs.

A couple of repaints just finished, that may give some ideas. The Pocketbond Ford 300E, supprised that they haven't done it in BR livery yet, as there were some, unlike the A35 and Morris Minors in that livery.

post-7305-126873544748_thumb.jpg This was taken during my first year on the railway (89-90) at Northallerton. The shot is now impossible as the box has been demolished! A p-way mess bus and our S&T Ital stand on the up dock. In the back ground another mess bus is just visible.

Slightly off topic I know but this is a cracking site covering GPO engineering vehicles of all types , would be great to see BR road vehicle site like this .

I fully agree with that sentiment jcb 3c, I have a large collection of pictures that would form the basis of such a site, but I wouldn't have a clue how to go about it. Maybe a bit of investigation is called for !

I notice the name Bill Aldrige on the GPO site as providing information. He also is a source of knowledge on BR stuff as well. I have seen some of his slide collection some years ago.
