Thanks for the pics. I'm lucky somehow I kept every move book I ever had........

I can't even remember what I did last week a lot of the time, my colas thread is a good reminder if someone asks did I drive a certain loco on a particular day!

I used to put the units and locos I've driven in my diary but don't bother any more as it's the same few all the time

Top man!! Cheers Rich, That's not bad mileage at all considering its 2017!! 37's have had more come back tours than the Rolling Stones.

Thought when the North Wales Coast finished in 2000 that was as good as the end.

17 years later and they're still hanging on in there.

Hi Marcus,

You finally got out on the coast. Looks like you and the nipper had a good day, can't beat a nice bit of 37 thrash.

Cheers Peter.

Yep, finally got out and done it Pete. I don't think it will be the last either somehow. Going to try the Norwich to Great Yarmouths tomorrow as long as Storm Doris don't wreak to much havoc. Windy as hell here at the moment.

Cheers

I started doing that when I went to GB but soon gave up. Half the time I would forget to log what I had driven so it became a bit of a pointless excersise. Still not sure if I've driven everyone of our 66s. I know I've definitely driven all the celebrities though as you can't really miss those.

Hi Marcus,

Were you proper bashers leaning out of the windows?!!!

Nice to see Large Logo Tractors still soldiering on!

Following Paul’s earlier posts, I found this and thought of Peak Dale Wood;

https://www.flickr.com/photos/tibshelf/5838876401/

Interesting that this working, Dowlow to Barham, was Freighliner at the time.

We would have had it not been for the coaches fitted with the dreaded window bars!

Nice picture. Celebrity 60081 too which makes it even more unusual.

Looks like a good day was had by all Marcus.

Done it a couple of times out of Preston once up to Cark Station then a "refreshing" afternoon in the world famous Engine Inn :drink_mini:

Used to holiday every year in the 70's near Grange -  good traction back then on the Cumbrian including regular 47's on 30+ HAA MGR to Fiddlers 25's to Sellafield 40's and even Skinhead 24's and latterly 31's Regional in the early 90's

All long gone.

Used to spend a fair bit of time up there as well in my child hood. Dad was quite keen on doing the Steam hauled Cumbrian Coast Express with the likes of Flying Scotsman, Sir Nigel Gresley and Clan Line. Around 1980/ 81 if I remember rightly. Also stopped near Arnside in 1982 for a holiday which included a visit to Steam Town at Carnforth when it was still a museum. Have done it a few times on Railtours since. The high light though was driving over the Coast in 2011 with the Three Peaks Challenge with Chilterns 67013.

Shall certainly be going for another bash soon. Hoping 424 comes out to play soon.

Cheers

I found some green screen smoke on youtube which can be downloaded then I used camtasia 9 for the editing which has the ability to use green screen effects. Camtasia you have to pay for although you can get a trial with a watermark over the rendered videos.

Above you can see camtasia 9 and how the smoke looks on the time line.

Above is the smoke clip from youtube. As you can see the original background was green which is removed before being placed over the video.

Yes - we regularly saw Nigel Gresley and the Scotsman going over the Leven Viaduct about 1980  - 81where our caravan site was (you may be familiar?) just across Ulverston and what was the old Plumpton junction to Haverthwaite - yes what a highlight to drive the Cumbrian! you are very fortunate. Steamtown is all change with West Coasts involvement and whatever as to what it was back then.

424 hopefully pencilled in for this summers "beerex" as far as Grange then Haverthwaite (Bus) Lakeside (Boat  - was Sealink!) then Windermere and Oxenholme courtesy of Northen and Virgin - nice and convenient.

All good.

That sounds like a nice move Ian. Been meaning to do L&HR for a while. That was another place we went to while on holiday in 82. I remember well the two Fairburn tanks painted in Caledonian blue. If I remember correctly the main station is sandwiched between two tunnels. If you've got a date for the Beerex let me know as I could be well up for that.

Cheers

Well after being tipped off about last nights modern visitor to PDW I decided to try my luck and pop down with the camera to see what would produce on tonight's bulk ballast. Standing on the bridge I suddenly heard an unusual sound that I had never heard in the Dales before. As the train appeared out of the cutting I realised that my luck was in as 68005 appeared with a rake of empty JNA's and IOA's.

post-18515-0-61135300-1488066350_thumb.jpeg

With the train brought to a stand at the signal, I managed to reposition myself to get a shot of it crossing over on to the reception lines.

post-18515-0-47899600-1488066491_thumb.jpeg

From this position I managed to get a shot of the loco running round and heading back towards the quarry with the empty wagons.

Whilst photographing on the embankment I was spotted by Fred, the resident friendly shutter, who kindly said,as it was a quiet Saturday night, I could come down and take some pictures around the yard.

First up was a shot of the train entering the yard.

post-18515-0-87685500-1488066831_thumb.jpeg

A quick scoot down to the other end of the loading shed provided some photos of the train on the newly laid concrete hard standing (Yes, I have been doing some modelling. LOL!!) prior to the loco being uncoupled.

Some more pictures were then taken during the run round. As can be seen with all the wet weather the weeds have really taken a hold around the sidings especially in the two head shunts. (Yep, more modelling. HaHa)

After having a lovely cup of tea with Fred in his nice warm cabin we ventured back outside to watch the final few wagons being loaded.

post-18515-0-01195000-1488067803_thumb.jpeg

Several shots were then taken of the run round and the train departing.

With 68005 off on its merry way, I was just about to pack up the camera when I suddenly heard the unmistakable growl of some more familiar traction. I was soon rewarded with the sight of 37116 arriving with a rake of empty MEAs destined for the quarry.

post-18515-0-34891400-1488068516_thumb.jpeg

Having stopped clear of the ground signal the train, ably assisted by Fred the shunter, backed into the reception sidings.

post-18515-0-60536800-1488068678_thumb.jpeg

With the signal cleared the train proceeded back towards the quarry. Fred, being the top bloke that is, shouted up from the ground frame, "Spose yer want come back down the yard now".

Wasn't going to turn down that offer now, was I.

post-18515-0-94616100-1488069446_thumb.jpeg

Having wondered back down the yard I managed a few pictures out side the loading shed before the loco ran down to the head shunt to stable.

post-18515-0-72300900-1488069435_thumb.jpeg

What I hadn't noticed, whilst filming 68005 down on the reception lines running round, was that 37419 had sneaked into the quarry unnoticed. A nice little bonus.

post-18515-0-92862400-1488069206_thumb.jpeg

Having thanked Fred for his hospitality and the tea I made my way home. Whilst walking back along the embankment I managed one final shot of 60026 heading South with a rake of RMC hoppers in tow.

Nice end to a decent evenings plotting.

Hope you enjoy this nice little montage from tonight's running session.

Cheers
