RMweb Gold DaveF Posted June 10, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 10, 2017 C10914: the DB 'Gläserner Zug' (glass train), this end looks like the motor bogie. As alluded to before, it was destroyed in a fatal collision in southern Germany and the remains are stored in a DB museum somewhere. C10923: brand new DB BR120 loco. This series was the first with tri-phase AC motors and as such granddaddy of the all modern generations of (diesel) electric loco's, including the various generations of ICE, the BR101, 185, 186 and 189, the Taurus, Traxx and Vectron families. Recently a 2-part series of books have been published on this series by KG Baur at EK Verlag (publisher), obviously in German only. Recommended reading if you have an interest in the subject. (also see both book reviews I did on these, one in 2014, the other in 2016) C10943: loco 91 of the (former) Bodensee-Toggenburg-Bahn (BT, now SOB: Südostbahn) by SLM, the Re 456. A series of 14 have been build, 6 belonged to the BT. C10934: The BN has nothing to do with a US railroad carrying the same initials, except perhaps both are now absorbed into a larger entity, but is the Bern-Neuenburg-Bahn connecting the named towns via the shortest route. It has since been amalgamated into the BLS network. At Kerzers, it's one of the lines through the quite unique level crossing. The railway museum in Kerzers no longer exists, apparently the planned move to Kallbach (a bit further north) fell through. C10960: The Ae 6/8 was arguably one of the strongest electric loco's of its day. Sadly, the year after this photo was made, loco 203 was scrapped. Links to German wiki pages, use a translation service if you can't read German Thanks very much for the information. I didn't know there had a been a railway museum at Kerzers. I do have some photos of the station to post in due course. David

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted June 26, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 26, 2017 (edited) And a remarkably large station for it's size! Must be all those tourists! Nice pictures as always Cheers Keith It is a big station as the abbey has up to 200,000 visitors a year and until recent times many people made pilgrimages there on top of those numbers to see the Black Madonna statue which is reputed to have healing powers. I have seen photos with every platform and siding full of trains with packed platforms. I think the platforms are just about long enough for around 12 coaches. It must be interesting working such trains as the ruling gradient on the Sudostbahn is 1 in 20. It was particularly busy (and still is relatively busy) on religious holidays. Trains sometimes arrive from Germany and other countries. Incidentally what is thought to have been the longest train worked over the main line of the Sudostbahn was 16 coaches, which required 3 locos. I suspect going down 1 in 20 gradients and being able to stop must be harder than going up them. David Edited June 26, 2017 by DaveF

RMweb Premium brushman47544 Posted June 28, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 28, 2017 The SBB Ae6/6 locos look "odd" to me with that panel bolted onto the front. Was it there from new - it looks like a later addition rather than being thought out as part of the locos' design, although the original metal bands hid it nicely. Does anyone know what it gives access to? I found this, but it doesn't really help me understand what is behind the panel http://mikado1244.ch/content/795/94/home-startseite/arbeiten-ae-6-
