jessy1692
Evening all, latest crop.of projects slowly creeping along and nearly all now at a stage where its a bit of finishing needed and varnish awaits. The Thompson, Cravens and inspection saloon are either ready for transfers or ready for weathing/varnishing now Another coach has made its way down from the layout too I got it as part of a job lot on Ebay a couple of months ago, from the pics I assumed it was a heavily painted Kirk Gresley full brake but when it arrived I realised it looks to be a home made thing with wooden sides and roof! The undergubbins was very battered and the bogies pretty basic do I whipped all of that away and added new trusses and Bachmann Gresley bogies. My Dad had a go with the paint stripper and not much came off but some of the plasticard beading did so iv added bits to replace it. Also the domed rood ends have been re done as one end looked pretty odd. Other bits iv done is add an extra bit of plasicard beading to split the lower panel and also add hand rails where needed. Also glued a new cantrail on to try hide the side/roof gap. It needs a primer coat to see what's what now but it will hopefully scrub up OK, plus heavy weathered plain blue will hide a multitude! I have done the FO brass sides on a mainline donor previously. Site is http://www.southernpridemodels.co.uk/index.htm?1 But be aware David Lewis is on the wind down and has/hadhealth issues so best to email first regarding availability of things. Also as per messages on the site replies may be slow bit he will get back to you- I think a lot of people are getting orders in to stock up and there is a back log. I know I have an order in and patiently waiting. Hope this helps James Edited October 16, 2023 by jessy1692 1

Evening John, as much as I'd love to take credit on the windows they are actually self adhesive stickers from SP, I think they come with the sides buy are available separately too. Also once you get going with them they are a diddle to apply. Iv no idea on time frames and I'm patiently awaiting my order coming through. I imagine there is a fair chunk of orders in at mo. jessy1692
Evening all, been told to get the various bits of carriages tidied up before I go away with for a couple of nights so status of the various bits below: Inspection saloon, main painting just about done, need to look at transfers for it and some new plasticard bits to build up an interior, lots of windows means the big empty space looks a bit odd! Cravens SO all but done except a bit of weathering and varnishing. Thompson 328 compo like the Cravens. The wooden BG has had 3 coats of blue and counting, roof and chassis to paint and heavily weather. The blue helps hide a multitude on this but I have to say I love it, looks and feels very bulky. Stove R, latest addition to thr parcels fleet, a surprising ebay bargain got 16 quid, it was in lms crimson so a quick repaint to BR maroon. I should have most stuff done by the weekend ready for varnishing next week in the kitchen when the family are away so I don't get told off! jessy1692
⁸Evening all, not a lot happening on the current crop of coaches, I was going to varnish them today but the weather has been horrible so didn't fancy it, tomorrow looking brighter and drier so ill rig up a spray booth and get them sorted. The Gresley BG and Stove are all lettered and ready to varnish now too. Also I have a pack of 14mm wheels now to put in some of these coaches, pretty expensive nowadays are Hornby wheels, anyone use anything cheaper?? Also this week I have pulled out a kit I have had in the 'to do' pile for a while. A Leadley Kits P0P1 3d printed kit. I think I got it as a lock down project but never got round to it. All went together very nicely but I am missing some of the weight stacks on PC 4, hopefully I can get some more but if not I'll just make some from plasticard. This is it pretty much done for now ready to paint up, I'll add the glazing and roof bits once it's painted. Very interesting thing and it will probably lead me and my Dad back down mk1 cut and shut rabbit holes to make up some RTC coaches to go with it. Cheers James
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted November 3, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 3, 2023 Maybe it would be cheaper to buy some broken second hand bargain Hornby wagons just to get the wheels, rather than buy new wheels.

heavymetalwagons
re wheels on ew60065 thread recently posted Evemodel ones on ebay - they come from China and work out about £1 per axle if you want to save money. Afternoon Colin, indeed iv been lucky a few times getting banged up coaches that have decent wheels off Ebay. Also today I had a trip over to Frizinghall models and my Dad got 4 older Bachmann suburban for 3 quid a piece! 3 of which had decent wheels so bargain there, also got a pack of 10 Bachmann coach wheels for 17.95, cheaper than Hornby by a little bit. That should replenish supply for a bit. I also picked up 2 Dapol PCA V tanks for 3 quid each too, little bit of work needed but it may be time to start up detailing them and my 3 bogie cement tanks. Back home now and varnishing in progress Finally an update on the PoP train, @apt-e Paul from Leadley Kits has emailed to say he will send some weights over to me at the weekend so I can get that finished. Been a good day so far! Cheers James Edited November 3, 2023 by jessy1692 3

RMweb Premium MJI Posted November 3, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 3, 2023 I noticed the price increase as well. I have to admit I am running on lots of RTR plastic wheels for RTR stuff (Airfix & Mainline), but on kits I am using Gibson at £2 an axle, and Colin posts them to me, if your track is good enough, worth doing, I will be using mine on code 75 most likely. Be aware that Evemodel's larger size wheels - 3'-3" (11.375mm.) diameter at 3.5mm. scale - equates to 2'-10" diameter at 4mm. scale. The correct diameter of most 4mm. scale wagons is 3'-0" (12mm.), and for most NPCCS and coaching stock it is 3'-6" (14mm.). Just sayin', CJI.

Aye, not looked yet but was wondering if they'd be HO ish, always try stick to 14mm with coaching stock but can sometimes get away with smaller on certain goods stock. Tbh the Dapol bags of 12mm 3 hole discs are/were good value so normally stick with them. Reminds me actually I've got a couple of class A tankers on the go so I need to check wheels and transfer situation, an order may be incoming soon to you! SteveyDee68
Having seen an article about Dapol’s recent investment in some serious looking lathe type machines, I’m hoping that their wheels will be even better than “okay” in future. Whether they can continue producing them at the current price is another matter entirely!* Steve S * There’s this fancy lathe that needs paying for, for example!

jessy1692
Evening all, so we had a bit of a stock swap at the weekend after varnishing and I forgot to take pics of everything finished.. Managed a couple of snaps whilst up at the layout this evening, it's looking a bit cluttered with a lot of coaches out but nice to see my latest batch on the rails. Particularly fond of the Cravens and the Thompson CK but I think the wooden BG now in blue is my favourite as its got a bit of character. Also on the go are the bargain suburban, my Dad has already got plans to chop in a toilet window so the SO centre compartment to make an Eastern Region toilet second then everything will go blue so he cam reminisce about his London trips in the 70's. A few Thompsons coming along too, these have been cobbled together from bits of brake end bodies I got in a job lot, and the planked brake is a rehash of a conversion I did about 20 years ago. Still work to do but soon be down to my house for painting. The mk2 TSO is 2 BSO's chopped and spliced and a mk2 BG will be made from the spare bits, just deciding where to chop a bit out the middle. The PoP Train now has more wright packs to glue on, thanks again @apt-e Paul for sending over. That should get primed at the weekend to get ready for painting. Currently on with painting up a few Stanier coaches, nothing ground breaking but nearly time for lining and I'll letter up the Indpection Saloon too. Lots going on but it's better than watching tele through the dark evenings. Cheers James Edited November 9, 2023 by jessy1692 3 1

I did have pics of it unpainted but lost them changing laptops etc and the great picture from here too. EDIT, managed to find a couple and a pic of one of the Super Hymeks, iv got a green and red one also Edited November 10, 2023 by jessy1692 1 2
