Dapol Mk3 Buffet - they exist

Hi,

When I made my polite enquiry to my 'Approved Dapol Gold Stockist' about my pre-orders on Wednesday I was stonewalled on the subject.

I'd had the Pretendolino twin pack on order since 1st May '12, and the FGW since 7th August '12.

It strikes me as bizarre that a dealer with such 'assured' sales wouldn't order/re-order stock to cover them when Dave assured us about availability, and be so indifferent to an easily resolved 'problem'.

Regards, Gerry.

Re the FGW buffets, it seems pretty off to me if not a single dealer actually has any stock or that they've been and gone. Are you saying that none of Hattons, Rails, Gaugemaster, Model Railways Direct or Kernow ordered any? They all show as on pre-order still, and clearly no one on here has seen them in shops.

I do struggle with that slightly I'm afraid.

Well, I ordered a FGW HST bookset before they were released from a trader in the South. After having seen them for sale at various shows the trader emailed me to say they were out of stock.

Nearly a year later I emailed them to ask what happened to my order. No reply (unfortunately I couldn't phone them during work and kept forgetting at weekends).

Last November I bought a discounted set off a pile of them on Dapols stand at Warley, so I can only guess either they didn't know Dapol had them or they just didn't bother to order more and fulfil my order.

Anyway, I now need a buffet and more mk3 coaches to go with it to do the Reading diversions via Banbury.

No, I'm saying that its 'possible' they didn't, however I know that Hatton's, Rails and Kernow have had them.

Some have had them, indeed on another forum 1 chap posts that he's had both twin packs and the EMT buffet, and I know he's also had an FGW one too.

I cannot stress this are enough. They have been made and ALL that have ordered have had their orders filled FULLY.

If they have sold out it's not Dapol's fault in any way, and if they havnt re-ordered this is also not Dapol's fault.

Whether you struggle with it or not, I'm sorry, but I cannot help further. They ARE in stock at Dapol, and I cannot help it if stockist don't or indeed won't order. That's down to you and your provider, not me to force them to stock an item you want but they may not.

Cheers

Dave

Right, Pendolino buffet twin pack ordered direct from Dapol.

might as well cut out all these dealer problems.

meanwhile monday i will be in touch with the dealer to cancel the order which they should have not accepted in the first place. Luckily i paid by credit card so will get my money back.

I take this statement refers to the Mk3 coaches only? While not being conclusive evidence, all six retailers I have asked in the last 18 months (including two gold stockists) have highlighted that stock allocation by Dapol is more of an issue than any other mainstream manufacturer. I would suggest that if retailers see the service you provide to them as not being as good as others then it's something which Dapol could, and perhaps should, be looking at to improve the end users' ability to obtain models.

Funnily enough this was the very same opening gambit employed by the 'Gold' stockist in my 'phone conversation last Wednesday...

Hi everyone,

I have been in conversation with some stockists regarding this issue ( yes I know it's early Sunday morning but its important), and have to give you all an apology and an explanation to the situation.

It seems that the 2 stockists I have spoken too ( 2 large ones) did order quantities of all the buffets, and have not yet received them.

Added to this they also mention previous orders placed that havn't been received either.

This means that while all the information I have so vociferously been imparting was correct, it was only correct to my understanding at the time.

It seems we have some sort of software problem that is not sending orders to the correct department, or even registering them as it should so the other part of the system can print out the paperwork, allocate the models and tell the dispatch department to ship them.

This is obviously an unknown but huge problem that I can imagine will be looked at in depth and with urgency tomorrow morning.

For now though, please accept my apologies to you all, as I gave information that was correct to me at the time.

Also to any traders who may have ordered but not received product, and feel slighted by my comments in any way please also accept my apology and rest assured we will get the situation sorted without delay.

Cheers

Dave

I think the phrase you're looking for Dave is "I made an honest mistake"? Something we are all guilty of if we're being honest.

I for one truly appreciate you coming on here and being open with us about supply issues and wish you good luck in resolving them speedily. For the record I have never failed to get my hands on any Dapol model of interest to me from Hattons, Rails or Model Railways Direct.

Keep up the good work

Oh dear! Like David I'd say well done for putting your hands up, no need to caveat it by saying you were just telling us what you thought to be true, I doubt anyone would suggest otherwise.

I hope for Dapol's sake this means you've under estimated demand and things get even busier!

Stockists attitude is something I'll cover in my memoirs when I can be more specific, but trust me, all the orders ever placed with Dapol have been filled in full.

Cheers

Dave

Sorry Dave, this isn't true in my experience.

I pre-ordered 8 Silver Bullets with one N Gauge specialist but they could only provide me with four as they didn't get all that they ordered.

Why is there no mention of the new Buffet releases on the Dapol website? They're hidden away available to buy in the "Shop" pages but I can't see anything on the "News" or "Launches" pages.

Happy modelling.

Amazing as we have silver bullets in stock!

And as I have said before I don't do the web site and as such cannot give you answers.

Please mail Joel directly for answers to your questions. Joel@Dapol.co.uk

Just because it isn't true in your experience doesn't make it not true for all does it?

It is respectful to post your findings here for all to scrutize.

Thanks for sharing the information with us.

Don't suppose you could chase Royal Mail for me? Apparently they have received my consignment of prentodolino twin packs but have decided not to send them onto me in the last week. :/

Thanks for the honest words Dave. I am very impressed by your customer relations and it is one of the reasons why I think that Dapol are one of the better companies out there.

I would echo the other people's comments regarding various stockists refusing to allow me to pre order items such as the original W&S book set or the EWS Business Train. I was told by several stockists that they received an allocation of these and that they were not even sure that they would get their allocation. This was disappointing to me and I did wonder why it was that me as a paying customer was being denied an item I wanted because of the way stock was allocated. Having heard the words from Dave I am convinced it was not Dapol's fault and had more to do with the stockists.

I am glad to hear that the MK3 carriages for the W&S trains are out there and I will be getting a set to add to my rake (a rare purchase of British rolling stock for me).

Hi SNCF Stephen,

In chats this morning I'm not so sure.

I think it's a major software issue to be honest with 'some' reticent stockists deciding either not to order or not to re-order.

I would think that the software issue will get sorted quickly tomorrow as the situation cannot be left to continue or everyone's sake.

Cheers

Dave
