  1. Hi

A thread would have been a better idea if you want people to answer.

I've found Humbrol paints to be absolutely rubbish recently. The Matt varnish I bought just has a grey sludge in the tin and no amount of mixing will produce a decent finish like the old stuff used to.

In addition the paint seems to thicken quite quickly after opening. I have some tins of the old stuff that are getting on for twenty years old which are more liquid than the new stuff after a couple of weeks.

    Cheers

  2. Hi

I spent many a happy hour at Masborough and remember seeing a HST (set 253017 from memory) on the old road going south. My mother is from Rotherham and I used to stay with my Grandad in the holidays spending my time on a Rail Rover.

As a teenager I did try to build Sheffield Midland in OO in a similar space but ran out of money before I could get all the track. I managed platforms 5 - 8 plus the bays at the north end.

    Cheers

  3. Am I right in thinking that you are attaching the track directly to the board and using the template to build on. I tried to build a point on a separate template using EasiTrak and found that I had managed to bow it along the length. This looks like a much better idea.

One question how are you planning on doing the tiebars and the subsequent connection to the point operating mechanism?

    Cheers

  4. Hi Jim

Excellent bit of work. One word of advice, did you make notes on how you constructed everything?

I never did and when I came back some of my started projects I struggled to remember how I had built parts of them. When building a number of the same type of wagon I try to build them at the same time to try and keep the parts to a similar standard though this isn't always possible. My rake of eight Anhydrous tankers for example has taken about four years so far and I have completed four of the wagons, the other four are in various stages which does allow me to remind myself of how they were constructed.

You may find scratchbuilding becomes addictive.

    Cheers

    Paul
