  1. Not listed now. Hornby part is X9429 but like spares for so many out of production models these are unavailable, there or anywhere else it seems. Would be happy to use something else, but I don't know which of eg Slaters or other suppliers buffers would be correct.
  2. Can anyone recommend a suitable supplier of buffers for these pls? Am rehabilitating a Lima one and it only has 2 buffers currently.
  3. Just 2 'iconics' last night excluding the intro/outro. Mind you they were talking about the Spitfire so can be forgiven I think.
  4. To be fair, the next(?) prog about development of the new Black Five shows a lot of browsing books/taking pics etc etc, but then later in the show when they have a running prototype does say something along the lines of 'we're now back a year later'. As mentioned upstream, the prog is about family entertainment (which I think it does well and shows the hobby in a good light) rather than detail, detail, detail. Last night's prog showed how a teenage son had got his mother (jewellery maker by trade and father, cabinet maker by trade) all involved in making a large layout which involved knocking holes in walls as well as both parents helping with the build - true family bonding.
  5. Just goes to show how great the original Morse was, given we've had 2 major spinoffs in the form of Lewis and Endeavour.
  6. Also they explained nicely how Morse was working in an older building than the recent modern HQ from the last few series, when Bright said they're thinking of reopening Cowley. Not sure why they bothered with the gunshot in the churchyard almost at the end, as we all know Endeavour/Morse couldn't have topped himself so what was the point of that mini-cliffhanger?
  7. Maybe the Jag will be written off, that's not in Morse.
  8. Just caught up with last night's showing. This time it was just prefaced with the British Board of Film Censors caption showing it was classified by them as a 'U' - no mention of PG this time round.
  9. Amongst these is 13T mineral wagon for £9.99 - ok as it is, or cheap enough for respray https://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/p/57859/38-328Z-Bachmann-High-Sided-Steel-Wagon-number-ADE282721
  10. F was the only suffix letter letter used with LMS so LMS264T would never have been issued unless anyone has subsequently had it. I thought you could check the DVLA personalised plate option to see if it's available to buy, but it just throws up what it thinks are similar plates in upcoming auctions.
  11. The final report mentions 147 crossings of the railway by roads, rivers, culverts, foot/farm crossings but unless I've missed it doesn't specify the number of road/farm/foot crossings. ISTR the feasibility study mentioned a number just shy of 60 of these. AIUI both NR and the ORR are implaccably resolute in their opposition to any new crossings on the level on new/reinstated railway. I believe the Sec of State can in exceptional circumstances authorise these, but authorising some 5 dozen would be open to challenge as not within the scope of 'exceptional'.
  12. A couple of bits of legislation for HoW dating back to 1986/1990 (though I thought these were updating some post-Beeching bits that were made as a compromise to keep the line open). Must admit I thought Pembroke had become the same but maybe I assumed too much on account of the stop-and-proceed workings on the line. Nevertheless, the consultants didn't consider any such option for Carmarthen-Aber as a way of keeping costs down. https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1990/1223/made https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1986/690/contents/made
  13. Aberystwyth-Carmarthen by bus curr 2h8m, (the 2018 study proposed 85-95 min journey time depending on type of unit used for rail journey).
  14. It's died the death again for now but the Tafia seem incensed by the fact trains between north and south Wales have to go via England despite the fact the geography hasn't changed since the time of Beeching. Anyway, in recent years they spent a third of a million of our money employing consultants for the scientific study of the flipping obvious and were then going to spend £0.75Bn of our money reinstating a proper railway from Carmarthen to Aberystwyth. Despite doing all they could in terms of social cost benefit analysis to engineeer more 'income' the line would only have paid back 41p in the pound. Annoyingly the study didn't consider all kinds of other options which would have been cheaper (I'm more than happy to fund public transport over road building). They didn't consider light rail of any form They didn't consider operating normal sized trains under light rail conditions like the Heart of Wales line and the Tenby/Pembroke branch They didn't even consider the mountain of problems of reinstating c.60 level crossings (foot crossings/road crossings/occupation crossing) They didn't consider subsidising an hourly bus which they could have funded for years and years with £0.75Bn and which would have been barely slower than train given the terrain (and run just as empty) They woefully underestimated (IMHO) the cost/difficulty of threading the line under a road bridge on Carmarthen bypass.
  15. I don't think I've ever seen it more than a third full (if that) irrespective of where people are going on the train.
  16. I am wondering if Dr Debryn will get any new lines in the last episode. All he ever seems to say is "Shall we say 2 o'clock gentlemen?"
  17. Unless I'm mistaken the iconic count was zero in this episode?

Amazon don't need to send any more boxes, a bag will do just as well.
  19. Night Mail is on again Sat 11Mar at 8:35pm. Last time it was on it was rated PG - goodness knows why. I did email Talking Pictures to ask why but never got a response. (I realise they get 000's of emails each week but I do sometimes get a personalised response from Sarah Cronin as I quite often contribute to Footage Detectives on Sundays).

It turns out you can nod off quite easily in a shoebox. Who knew?

I just unboxed a new pair of slippers. Nephy (who's nearly 6kg) decided it was just the right size for her....
  22. IIRC it was said to cost around £1M of public money at the time. My thoughts at the time were that those who believed it was safe continued to believe it was safe, and those who believed flasks were unsafe continued to believe it was unsafe.
  23. I'd imagine when the ex-GWR railcars were repainted from carmine/cream to BR green the seats weren't changed, but what was the colour of seating in the final days?
  24. Yes, it's some very early tooling from the Hornby factory at Margate which as the documentary said, has been there for nearly a century.....
  25. Certainly it's bound to be someone's exclusive. MAYBE NRM? Even though it's not in the national collection it's namesake is and I reckon they might go out on a limb for this?
