  1. Not looking forward to seeing to seeing Mark's rolling sock ? See you at expoEM North
  2. Where was the need on the LMS for wide firebox locos? The Midland mainline including the S&C) which I presume you were alluding to with regard to double heading) was not built for 'heavy' locos. and was never (until BR days) cleared for locos larger than Jubilees. The important difference between the LMS and the LNER was geographic. the LMS joined closely spaced centres of industry and population the LNER was more spread out and importantly flatter. Where on the ECML was the first significant centre of population/ industry - Leeds/ Wakefield/Doncaster and then Newcastle! Even the GC mainline had to do with GC locos until the B2s (wide firebox successes?) and eventually a sprinkling of wide firebox A1/A3 and V2s a few years before M-S electrification. I think the proper comparison should be between the Midland main line and the GC main line which were of similar profile and importance to the big two. The comparison between locos designed for high speed on longer, flatter routes and the Midland main line (which by no stretch of the imagination was flat) is like comparing apples with giraffes.
  3. Larry, Don't go looking for Bassett-Lowke on Corporation Street - in fact you probably won't even recognise Corporation Street anymore- and the trams are VERY different- and yes i remember them both (B-L's shop & the trams)
  4. Have you changed the TOC from All to XC (Cross Country) - that will give a similar effect
  5. Hi Peter. Ooooops ! Another visit to Specsavers needed methinks. However. Bescot July 1983 Man Vic July 1983 This one has possibilities for a different train Hauling a failed Service train Man Vic June 1986
  6. Hi Peter, Layout and Locos looking very good.! 25057 did have a brief moment of fame as it hauled, with 25083 the first leg (Liverpool to Guide Bridge) of the LCGB 'Easter Tommy'. The last 76 hauled passenger train over Woodhead. Must have been a few pics of me as well 25057 had lamp irons at both ends (minor point) HTH
  7. Track machine activity Colas 75408 from about 12-45 pm on Dawlish web cam. You don't normally see it that close.
  8. Jason, If you want a really different Black 5 - why not this one ? Something I've never seen modelled- an LMS self weighing tender. 44697 Man Vic 1963 Go on - you know you want to
  9. Interesting that the majority of pictures are of the Teignmouth to Parsons Tunnel section.(Good pictures but bad news room editing) Presumably the wire and post fencing which is shown in a couple of the pictures (H & S) will disappear once the work has finished ?
  10. It appears obvious that the wall and path alongside the the railway needs raising to a sensible height to a stronger design. The talk of 'modern' curved walls to turn back the force of the waves seems sensible as demonstrated by the 'relatively' minor damage to the sea wall between Teignmouth and Parsons Tunnel. (see Rod's (10800) post 471 on this thread. A comparison between the two walls in better days. Dawlish June 1989 Teignmouth July 1986
  11. TT With respect, what I stated was those locos which were originally fitted and not the odd ball ones from later in their life. BTW the link you gave is not very user friendly IMHO for queries such as the above.
  12. Peter, After a bit of checking - the extra brackets on the nose doors were LM region headbard brackets. It seems that they were fitted to all the Disc fitted class 40s originally allocated to the LM region. D210-236, D255 (The ETH one) D267-D269, D287-D324 There were a few odd ball ones in later days when nose doors were plated over, odd brackets removed or doors swapped etc. A couple of pics 40012 Man Vic 6 June 1983 40012 Man Vic 6 June 1983 (Cropped) 40055 Reddish 26 December 1982 (The former ETH loco) The engine room steps. 40135 Doncaster works 10 March 1985 40135 Doncaster works 10 March 1985(cropped) 40082 Man Vic 25 July 1984 HTH
  13. Tony, Suggest you ring Tim tomorrow - he had some left yesterday.
  14. Larry Only 2 digits to change then. The L & Y 2-4-2T is surely a contender for model of the year in my books
  15. Tuffy, The question was about 'Butler Henderson' (see post 107 above)

  17. Whilst not a Traditional model shop Arcadia in Shaw is a mecca for RTR in all scales and nationalities and at very competitive prices. Less than 5 minutes walk from Shaw & Crompton Metrolink station. http://www.arcadiarail.co.uk/index.php
  18. The estimable Phil Carrier - a real gentleman. . As stated above an Aladins cave of second hand and part built kits etc. used to visit regularly - buy a part (or badly) built kit - take it home - rebuild it - paint it - back to Phils - swap it for two kits (one for me and one to rebuild and swap it for two more. And so it went on until the shop closed and Phil retired ? / disappeared. Norman's Shop. When he first moved from the Family Sports shop (which was next door) he knew little about 4mm having only dealt in 7mm previously. We helped him set up all the 4mm stock ABS, Kenline, K's Kits, Gibson kits etc and regularly did the re-ordering etc for him and Arnold made all the wooden trays that held the stock. We looked after the shop when he was on holiday and helped him at exhibitions. Friday evenings and Sunday mornings were like a club meeting with regulars from all over the North appearing. Unfortunately even the regulars had to pay the 'Greenfield Surcharge' which ruined his reputation with a lot of modellers and the number of regulars dwindled. Ironically the shop is now a Charity Shop.
  19. Arthur The one on Corporation Street was Bassett Lowke before being taken over by Beatties. And strangely the original Tyldesley and Holbrooke shop on Deansgate -was about 20 yds away (on the next block) to the now defunct Modelzone. Mr Holbrooke was a rather portly gentleman who presided over the model railway department on the first floor.
