  1. How will the sound file be produced? Does anyone know how it should actually sound?
  2. Not about buying more stuff, it's about building more stuff. Let's say I want to build a locomotive, I don't know, a H class. Perhaps a 3D printed body is available. Now where do I order wheels? Chop up an existing chassis? In 00 I can build an obscure prototype from a kit, order the correct wheels, transfers etc... In N you are far more limited so rtr is a big factor in modelling subjects. And it's just not there right now.
  3. Honestly, I've gone back to 00. The situation wouldn't be as bad if N had the same sort of kit support for locomotives and rolling stock, but that's not practical. When you are forced to rely solely on rtr it's no good if it's not in the shops in the first place.
  4. Hello, after a bit of advice. I'm currently dcc fitting an old Hornby E2. The model has been fitted with a seuth 22 smoke unit for a bit of fun. All installed and it's working but the smoke unit is dead. A quick read of the decoder tells me it's a Hornby unit that apparently doesn't have the grunt for that. Is there a particular decoder that works especially well for older models that also has the output power for a smoke unit? And possibly the ability to add stay alive? I last played with dcc about... Too many years ago, and now there's so many decoders it's rather confusing. What's today's general purpose decoder of choice? Like the ak47 of digital chips?
  5. Looking at them side by side the underframe really stands out on the hattons model. I wonder if they might consider a train pack with a P class... Please hattons... Southern green...
  6. I'm hoping for another olive model as I'm after one. I would also buy a SECR goods green model that I don't think has been done yet. Toying with rebranding a ROD one as the livery looks very similar based on the pictures from the bluebell website. A rerun or SECR grey would also be on my shopping list.
  7. I'm liking the lights in these. I would expect these to become standard practice for lighting. I had this sort of thing before. I fitted magnetic gantries to the fiddle yard so the lights are tuned off on entry and back on when leaving.
  8. Why does it have to be Hornby playing dirty? If people are screaming for certain models like the adams radial, 71, terrier etc it makes sense that a model railway manufacturer would go OK let's make them. If two listen to the same list it's going to happen. If a shop decide to produce their own models they are going to have to accept this could happen. There are plenty of models like the P class that Hornby have left alone if their strategy is purely domination. It's unfortunate and like I say whoever has the best model should win, but it's the reality of business and everyone building from the same shopping list.
  9. If these don't come with the runner wagon I wonder if they have the socket?
  10. The fact is if the hattons model is better (lighting and other niceties) they don't need to worry. The Hornby model will sell well as it can reach other shops that perhaps the hattons model won't. Pity they can't use the efe distribution route as that bridge is burnt. Good luck to both as I'm sure they'll be in profit.

If you want something that will really stand out but also tick the work a day locomotive box... How about a C2x with a double dome!

I was just reading the review in the July 85 railway modeller!
  14. Is the kesr blue a preserved livery or an old livery? I can find pictures or Bodiam in green and reference to blue. But I'm not sure if this is a preserved blue.
  15. Hello chaps. I have a Bachmann 8700 pannier, an 8pin dcc ready version. There are two screws that hold the chassis to the body. I want to fit a kadee number 5 coupling and the front screw is perfectly in line with the hole in the pocket, however the screw is too short and will need to be replaced with a longer one. Does anyone know what size thread that is? Or how to measure it? I am aware that I can get NEM couplers, I currently have an 18 fitted. But the versions with the pockets work better and have more swing. Thanks in advance.

A half cab pannier of some sort would sell and be sufficiently different from the others to justify. Would go well with the genesis coaches coming. Looking at the past, an E2? Nice companion for the terrier with a long life and a couple of different side tank options for multiple liveries/eras. Wildcard, 317 emu. Overhead mk3 unit available in popular NSE livery and a named Stansted express version? On a personal level... I'd like a Hornby adams radial in southern green! I don't know why they are avoiding it. They do that livery so well. Now that they have all the parts how about a schools with a nelson tender?
  17. It was basically a modified version of their 14xx chassis. I believe the body is the correct proportions so might get away with enlarging them slightly. It's just the chassis that is to be be remade from the ground up.
  18. I'm hoping the driving wheels are a larger diameter this time around. Don't know if the body will alow this.
  19. Can anyone tell me the footprint for the ratio cattle dock kit please? As an aside, I don't suppose there is a handy database of such things? Or maybe we could put one together? Edit: forget that, found it on the peco website. Assumed it was incorrect. Been working with N for to long... It's huge!
  20. Fruit salad aside, what do you mean by lag? A delay between hitting stop and the train actually stopping? May sound stupid, but with the two cabs on the same layout is it just a case of selecting a vacant locomotive? And what happens if you try to select a locomotive being used by the other cab? And if you really want to impress me work a kiwi fruit into your answer
  21. Definitely be up for one of these. I'm hoping the good people at Dapol might do a book set with a some maunsell coaches.
  22. Can I also just say fair play on the pricing! Would have been easy to bump up the price given the ebay rates. £26ish per coach is very reasonable!
  23. Railtec do some fantastic scotrail transfers. They go on very well and you would think they were printed afterwords. I'm sure if they don't already they could knock up a sheet of preformed coach numbers.
