  1. I've said it before and I will say it again. Nothing puts me off railway modelling more than other railway modellers. Every product thread if full of people telling me my opinion. Every item is the wrong version/livery/number or something. If you're not interested and you're not buying it what does it matter? Just play with your toy trains and let other people play with theirs. It really is that simple.
  2. Fair play! Hope he has a good retirement and can relax. Always seemed a nice guy
  3. Basic coaches shouldn't be a response to anything! Accept someone buying a locomotive.
  4. Well money where my mouth is. Goods green and olive green ordered. And a bluebell thrown in for good measure! At those prices it would be rude not to. Thanks hattons! Now how about a train pack with some genesis coaches...
  5. The price of coaches has been getting out of hand. But these really do seem like you are getting your monies worth!
  6. There is a 73 listed so I am assuming green Mk1's will follow. In one of the TT talk videos Simon said the terrier is on the to-do list. Not ideal but surely a merchant navy isn't far off. Given how long they have apparently been working on TT in the background they could have drawn up one when channel packet released
  7. If it was a continental model it probably would! With all flanged wheels... and a close coupled tender...
  8. The 10ton van is very nice and looks great to the drawings. The cambrian kit is also nice. One thing where the rapido van wins easily is the roof. Maybe making these available as a separate item would give a bit of extra revenue from those building a batch of kits?
  9. In one of the TT talk videos Simon confirmed a terrier was on the to-do list
  10. Hmmm... I like that idea. Should be nicely affordable and a bit different. I'd buy one.
  11. I remember reading in a book a couple of years ago about the need to stamp out 00 before it takes hold. It's never going to take off and it just looks wrong. I think the open letter was published in the late 40's or early 50's. How did that work out?
  12. I have said it before and I will say it again. If Hornby wanted to model a little black 0-6-0 but stand out a bit, a double dome C2x would be a good choice.
  13. An olive green lord nelson with smoke deflectors would be nice. I would assume that a model from each of the companies at grouping will be on the cards. Actually, looking at the coaches in the range I'm going to upgrade that to a train pack from each of the companies at grouping.
  14. Personally I would like a model of a 317 or something I could renumber and modify easily enough. But that's just because it was the local unit. But I model the southern at grouping. Age 37
  15. The reverse also applies to stuff that "doesn't sell". Like the 4CEP in N. People don't model 3rd rail because its not popular blah blah blah. They don't model it because the models aren't available. I'm predicting a new southern merchant navy from the low numbers. Union castle maybe?
  16. Thanks everyone, looks like I have a couple of books to buy :)
  17. I'm not interested in pacific's since the whole fixed pony truck thing. Even the tt:120 stuff has been afflicted. I don't get why that's so readily accepted. If they released a castle with a flangless center driver people would loose their mind! I understand why it was done, but I don't understand why it was necessary. Continental models don't seem to have these limitations. Looking at the light pacific's that had this retrofitted, was it really an upgrade?
  18. As a personal wish, the Adams radial finally produced in southern green.
  19. A return of the pullman cars using the same colours as the TT:120 models. A schools with a nelson tender.
  20. I have a question about the hawkhurst branch. I see various pictures of wagons parked up in sidings and stations, but I can't find a picture of them in a train. We're dedicated pickup goods trains run down the branch? Or would these be attached to the push-pull trains? Thanks
  21. Was it ever confirmed that the pullman's supplied in the set don't have lights fitted? I can't imagine that would be the case. Although perhaps it could be handy if you want an odd pullman to slip in a train of mk1's.
  22. I'm looking at it like a gateway drug. A cheap deal to get you hooked.
  23. I have to say that the train sets are priced competitively. At about £200 before the discount for a locomotive, three coaches, track and a controller that a good bargain. I'll be having a punt at that price.
  24. Well damn! That's a power play! Fair play Hornby, I'm in. Looking at the Hornby track vs the peco track the points look a lot less fine. Is the Hornby stuff code 55? A rebrand?
  25. Which is older LSWR or SWR? Or are they of the same time period?
