  1. As an aside, someone broke a bridge in Plymouth with a lorry yesterday afternoon, apparently services are still running as single line with a 5mph speed limit. I'm nipping down to Okehampton in a mo to start track laying towards Gunnislake https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-devon-58387682.amp
  2. Gonna nip down Okehampton and start laying some track towards Plymouth...

Actually, wasn't that the title of a Bee Gees' song?

New track's just laid from the Parkway to the original station..........

  3. Me too and probably yes re: Hornby acquisition.
  4. Only thing missing is that cheesy background music you get on BRM YouTube vids... other than that
  5. The crate possibly but the actual computer, just one of us thingymebobs to do that. Although you'd need to book well in advance and be able to put up the odours us IT tech's emanate.
  6. wos they spider's legs underneath all about then
  7. Well, more beans spent.... Got myself an LED lighting kit online from some 'lectric geezers in Bristol. I went for the mix of led types so I could play about with various lighting effects (think there are about 16 settings for both the cool and warm un's). The kit powers 60 LEDs a meter (30 of each), up to 5 meters long, but I only need two strips of a meter, one for each board. If this isn't bright enough then I'll go with two strips on each board, one above the other joined by the connectors I bought along with the kit. These will be stuck to 90° arc aluminium profile ordered from the same geezers. As @SouthernRegionSteam mentioned in his BRM article, this acts as a heatsink too. Got some feet too, no legs, just the feet. Time for another lay down. Cheers Dubya
  8. I have indeed sir, I've been after one for some time and think I was lucky to find a shiny new one. No more toys this month, I need to source some lighting for my boards. I was reading the scribblings of Rice yesterday in this Camouflage Layouts Shoved in the Corner book about LED strips and think that's the route to go down. Also from BRM and @SouthernRegionSteam's excellent article on the (not so now) black art of 'lectrics for LED lights. Top stuff!
  9. Cheers mate, I've just ordered some boards from Tim Horn and want to get everything right before sticking stuff down and playing trains. Thanks, Dubya Edit: Ordered a complete kit and all the other bits from these geezers down the road from me in Bristol, if it doesn't do the trick I'll shove it under the kitchen cupboards (which I've been meaning to sort out for the last 18 months).
  10. Jamie's article (and videos) on LED lighting was excellent and just what I was after, following on from reading about the subject in Rice's scribblings in his Cameo Layouts book. I've researched it and think I've found most of the materials and hardware online (mostly on eBay), but I can't find (the right search criterion) extruded aluminium strips with the diffusers he uses. Any pointers to these would be most gratefully received? PS: just purchased my first digital edition of the mag and I'm well Impressed Cheers Dubya
  11. Found a vid on tut 'tube showing how easy* these are to build and how robust they are once completed. Cheers Dubya *if anyone can mess this up, it'll be me
  12. Well, Betty's rocked up courtesy of DHL a whole 4 days earlier than advised and will get a good thrashing on the road in due course. Scored some sleeper grime last night too and a rivet closing tool from the EMGS stores. I think any p&c work will be an eclectic mix of ply & rivet, plastic chairs and maybe the odd slice of copper clad
  13. I feel your pain, I went into town the other day to purchase some spectacles only to be confronted by a swarm of tourists, not the usual lot, but staycationers! It's highly likely I have been infected by the 'rona from that lot too (time to shove yet another stick up my head). As for chippies, Fishy Evans went years ago sadly but I heartily recommend Cod Down along the road from us in the big O.D.
  14. I'm not sure they ever got into BR(S) green?
  15. Oh pants! got a Wills (SEF?) detailing kit for a M7, bound to be some gubbins to nail them together in there, that should do the trick... on the other hand could just whack my pull-push fitted T-Mobile thingymebob jobbie from they Cornish lot on one end (choice of one). Don't think Mickey mices were the same system as the southern lot? But I don't need to worry about that cos I ain't got a pp fitted one. Thought about getting a transit for the 700 but I can't justify the price for a single wagon, no matter how gurt ace it is. Plus I think I've got a D&S? kit for one in a box somewhere (if I don't build it I can always sell it to fund my retirement )
  16. Thanks Rob, One of the original boards is now the surface of my workbench-in-a-cupboard, which I built last summer. We had the house completely rebuilt last year too, jacked the top up, removed and rebuilt the walls and dropped the top back on. I took some extra days at work two years back and haven't really had much time, which has taken it's toll but I've kicked that in the arse and got the Horn. * The new boards will have a permanent home across the width of the back bedroom, 9' total (6' scenic). This was imposed on Mrs Dubya... but she gets the room decorated* whilst she goes on holiday to Malta, the week after next. * I have just had a Weston's order delivered, so I can't guarantee this will actually happen. No breath holding, I'll be back, hopefully a damn sight quicker than the last time. * that's Pete in the picture, I don't know him but he's there for illustration purposes only.
  17. Don't get too excited but... It's going to be a bit longer but not as fat. Earlier this week I gave some geezer £324 sheets for a pile of wood. He's going to fry them up and post them to me in about 5-6 weeks. Today I further rinsed my bank account to purchase an EFE Gate Set from those Cornish bu99ers and a Black Motor from Spare Peter's. That is it for now...
  18. I haven't got a LSWR road van but I have been feeding the mouse that lives in the shed.

OK, so the 'shed' is a Midland 10T van?

Feeding it Cheddar? That mouse'll turn into a rat  (in the kitchen?) then what ya gonna do?

No, sunflower hearts mate. I'm not going to fix the rats but they do climb the trees and eat the fat balls, which I leave hanging out for the tits.

  19. I'm pleased to say that I've had a response from Tim and ordered a nice set of boards for delivery in 5-6 weeks time. His current stock list is the same as the one kindly posted by @JohnR above. Better learn Templot
