Oh, that is a pity. Many good people seem to have left.

Disappointing. I can't see the point in falling out with people you've never met.

What item of clothing should manage Scotland, then?

      A sporran?

As for the waistcoat, whats the prognostication if he's wearing it at kickoff and takes it off at half time?

      There goes another theory!

  3. Apparently, it's all about the size of one's ejector. But that sounds a bit rude.

    1. Metr0Land

      Metr0Land

Size isn't important but your pipes can become furred up with age. Have you tried sucking and then blowing?

There's nothing wrong with a good sprue on a Sunday morning!

GWR wanted 25" everyone else 21". Greedy or what? But you still needed a good pump to back it up.

  4. Elizabeth Line - a smoooooth ride...

I took an impromptu trip last week as I had a couple of hours to kill in London.  Went from Farringdon to Ealing Broadway and then back to Paddington for a walk to Euston.

Quite impressed by it all, but it's just a rapid transit system, so underground on steroids.  I imagine for the people that use it daily it's great though, no sooner has one train left another one is arriving.

As you can see from my album I was more interested in the architecture, design and artworks. As you say they are just rather smart tube trains. I prefer to travel facing forward and when I bagged a forward facing seat I found they were definitely more comfortable than the dreaded Thameslink 700s.

      Great album.

  5. 'Blue Pullman' currently on Talkingpics TV

    1. The Stationmaster

      The Stationmaster

Yes - I didn't realise it was on until I heard the sound at the beginning and nipped into the living room to find it on so i only missed the first minute or two.  They do tend to repeat the 'Look At Life' programmes aftera few weeks  so it might be on again some time.

    2. Huw Griffiths

      Huw Griffiths

      A few weeks?

I wonder when that might be - and what "festive turkeys" might be on the "mainstream" channels?

    3. The Stationmaster

      The Stationmaster

The one about the Black Arrows - 111 Sqn aerobatic team with black painted Hawker Hunters - was repeated after only three weeks.  The only detailed 'Talking Pictures' schedules so far available go up to 12 December.  However this was listed in the Radio Times as 'Blue Pullman' so if it will be repeated shortly it looks as if it could be found that way if you're prepared to wade through the RT up until 31 December - assuming that it will be repeated before then of course?

  7. Shouting at prats on the TV or the radio doesn't stop them, but makes me feel better

    1. Corbs

      Corbs

When I was a very young child, I thought that if I shouted right into the speaker on the TV, they'd be able to hear me. It never worked, sadly.

Invest in a foam brick to chuck at the screen, that'll help too.

Don't worry as Mr Humphries is actually and really, really leaving the morning shout over anyone interviewed (except in very special circumstances) programme.

      Dave47549

That's bizarre. Yep, the VNC tab's always been there, but it's not worked for a week or so, but it's back up and running now. Ah well, i'd best get back under me bridge!

      Postal service problems?

  19. Still not getting notifications on blogs I follow

I'm trying to resolve a problem with mail server settings; it'll be tomorrow at least before it's sorted.

    2. Miss Prism

      Miss Prism

Not yet resolved. Still not getting notifications of blogs I have started to follow within the last year or so. Summat about that blog-following database ain't right.

  20. (On 3289 Trefusis taking over at Exeter): "There is a marked air of 'bulldog' determination about this type of locomotive. The idea suggested that whatever may happen, it will pull the train through somehow. And it usually does."

Don't know, Mike. The (book) quote was unattributed. Doesn't feel particularly Ahrons to me though.

  21. The Bristol section of the board, consisting, for the most part, of mercantile men, has, it is notorious, almost ceased to exercise any control over the proceedings of the Company.

      Northroader

No need to go to Steventon, then.

  22. Can this be the station where driver and fireman exchanged piercing whistles as three engines met?

  23. The broad gauge is not the only peculiarity of the Great Western Railway Company. The whole of its management is peculiar. In no railway is there so little of the mercantile element, and so much of the political element, as in the Great Western Railway.

    1. BoD

I thought politics was banned on RMweb

  25. Grrr - blog notifications are still rubbish

    1. richbrummitt

      richbrummitt

I think they always have been? I tried to follow blogs in the past but it seems that you had to catch and follow every entry, and page two of the blogs doesn't function properly on the 'Content I Follow' page.

It would help if there was a page 2!
