  1. Always look on the bright side of life (monty python) I want to know what love is (foreigner)
  2. this may be a silly question but have you tried checking the voltage drawn by the motor when working in each direction whilst loaded and unloaded. Some chips cope better with voltage differences than others.
  3. you can always use a translation app to help you read the instructions, good luck and have fun. Look forward to seeing the finished product on here.
  4. 08s used to do regular trip workings around the Sheffield area with steel traffic. 08s also used to make runs from Knottingley to Milford sidings and Gasgione wood to collect crippled coal wagons and return them to the wagon repair shop at Knottingley. Both Knottingley and Tinsley received a pair of 09s in the 1990s to allow higher speeds on trip workings.
  5. have you tried checking the actual track gauge at the spots where the locos stop, it sounds like the rails may be pinching the wheels. Also check the wheel back to backs as well.
  6. earlier on this year SWMBO received a letter informing her she could claim some money back in overpaid tax and that if we responded they would send us the relavent forms to claim said tax. We had an idea that we were owed some tax so requested said forms, filled them in and sent them back. A couple of weeks later we received notification from the tax office that we were indeed owed several hundreds of pounds back and would receive a cheque within the week, however when said cheque arrived it was lower than what we expected. On reading the letter that accompanied the cheque we realised that we had been dealing with a handling company and if we'd have gone directly to HMRC tax office we would have received the full amount.
  7. now is not the time to speculate and point fingers, we should let those who are trained and knowledgable about these issues do there jobs and give out true and acurate information before we start demanding answers then real solutions can be worked out. I did not start this thread for finger pointing or political debate so please don't. I started this thread to pass on our thoughts and best wishes to all those caught up in this horrific incident.
  8. I would like to offer my deepest sympophies to all those families who have lost friends and relatives in the horrific fire in the London tower block, and those who have lost there homes. I'd like to thank all those who work for the emergency services who once again turned out in there masses to such a horrific scene And wish the local comunity my best wishes for the way they are pulling together to help out those who have lost everything.
  9. if you don't mind me asking was the item you ordered shown as in stock at the time.
  10. as you are new to the hobby try looking on YouTube at Kadee couplings and how to fit them, this will give you some idea of how the couplings work and how to fit them to different types of rolling stock. I hope this is of some help and gives you some guidance. Just remember we all started not knowing how to do things and with a little help and guidance from forums like this and other modellers we learnt. Theres always plenty of help and advice available on here, don't give up
  11. when these units were manufactured by Bachmann they were made with a representation of the real coupling which is none functional so if you wish to couple units together you will need to fit couplings of your choice. Most people tend to fit Kadee couplings, however other makes are available and can be fitted
  12. you can get the parts to make your own with the choice of chassis cabs if you go to "Road transport images" (no connection) however the cost adds up and for some it would be much better if they could buy a ready to plant model. One vehicle which would be nice is a "Bruff" road rail truck, but that will definatly need to be scatch built.
  13. holy smokes the original batman has retired to the great batcave in the sky. many hours watching batman as a kid RIP Adam West

  15. have you tried looking on http://departmentals.com/ for information and pictures to help with your project
  16. another great loss, loved watching Last of the summer wine when it was Compo, Clegg & Foggy, and latterly he did a cracking job as the voice of Wallace in Wallace and Gromit. Will be missed by many RIP
  17. have you tried looking up the service/parts sheet on the Hornby website, that would then allow you to get the part numbers for the right set of screws you require which would also make it an easier job for a parts stockist to check and send you the parts required.
  18. I used to put a watch makers screw driver with a swivel end down the shaft of my old mini drills.
  19. several large show venues have concrete floors so some sort of mat is a good idea, also these days many venues request the use of electrical RCBs.
  20. have you tried looking on google images for disused pointwork.
  21. why oh why does everybody go for GWR steam structures. Why cant we have some good old dark northern stone structures like mills and terraced houses, or some 50s, 60s council houses and blocks of flats, or some well worn industrial buildings.
  22. many years ago when my layout was at York show my team and myself requested to be put up in a B&B even though we only travelled about 35 miles, however this request was so we could enjoy the after show activities and not have to worry about drinking and driving. Whilst at the show we were provided with bottled water every day as we entered, each exhibiter was asked how many 2 litre bottles they would like. The whole show was organised fantasically and my whole team had a great show. If you ever get the chance to be behind the barriers take it, it gives you a whole new view of what it takes to make an exhibition work
  23. there are plenty of upto date liveried models around today, but what about BR blue early 70s to 80s
  24. how about 47325 in original railfrieght with Tinsley painted name Red Rum 47012 in BR blue with Tinsley painted name Magpie any of Tinsley's 08s,37s,45s or 47s with painted names
