  1. I take it that this is a DC layout, I would start by moving your power feed to the section of track between all the points in the center and try that.
  2. how about a uk border agency van and imigration inspection team at the chicken takeaway and Nando's.
  3. didn't the Housemartins also do a song called Caravan of love, so could be some modern touring caravans?
  4. many years of watching Blue Peter to see what was being made with cardboard rolls and sticky backed plastic and can I use it on my trainset, those were the days when kids tv was entertaining and educational, when kids actually made things before the days of computers, games systems, mobile phones and the internet and the tv presenters had to have get up and go and inspire. John Noakes was always on the go and always up for a challenge. A real inspiration. RIP. John Noakes once again you can go wandering with Shep.
  5. looking good Simon, like the look with the platforms removed.
  6. this is a hobby and the main point is that YOU enjoy what you are doing. We all aspire to create our best models and as long as you are happy then that's what counts, hope you enjoy your new layout.
  7. I remember seeing that unit running on the layout at Scalefour North, and that memory of watching a unit stopping at the station, the doors opening and then closing a minute later and the unit departing has stayed with me since. I have often wondered how it was done, I found it amazing.
  8. a little info for you, both class 37s and Deltics can be found running on the mainline still today.
  9. my deepest thoughts and condolences go to all those who have loved ones caught up in Manchester, and a big thank you to the people of Manchester for there generosity and help following this horrific event God bless them all.
  10. for the brickwork on the platform face have you tried using Slaters plastic sheet instead of Wills as its thinner and may let you get a little depth.
  11. as a casual observer and not knowing to much about the technical aspect of OSV could any of these be converted for further use in the growing offshore wind farm business as support vessels. On a slight side ways thought I have often wondered if anyone has ever thought of the total combined weight of all the worlds shipping and then thought of the total displacement of water and if we reduced the amount of new ships being lauched and reused as many as possible it may help in reducing the worlds ever heightening tidal level ( just think of Archimedes in his bath)

    Hornby Spares

with the current situation reguarding the ability of spares it would be a possible idea to set up a reclamation project where old, broken or damaged stock could be sent/purchased for a small amount and then broken up to reclaim valuable spare parts. The scrap could then be recycled in the correct way. I sometimes wonder how many railway models are just thrown away as kids grow out of playing trains or elderly relatives pass away. Maybe model shops could get together to create some sort of recycling project.
  13. one issue reguarding finding a replacement for the Mashima motors is finding alternative options for mounting and fixing them, not all motors have mounting screw holes drilled into the front plate. Maybe someone could develop a gearbox with some sort of fixing clamp attached.
  14. hi and welcome, its good to see someone taking on a layout and continuing to keep it running and developing it. As long as you continue to give the original builder the due aknowlegement for the original layout construction then there is no reason why you shouldn't put up photos of any upgrades, changes etc. Afterall this whole site is by modellers for modellers and about learning, drueling and enjoying our hobby.
  15. placed my expression of interest first thing this morning, now time to start saving the pennies. I never got to see this loco in this livery, only managed to spot it in EWS but it looked far better in large logo and the model fits my modelling era.
  16. slightly of track for this thread but does anybody know if there is Halfords match for BR blue, and the greys in triple grey.
  17. if you go onto the Hornby website you can download a copy of the service sheets with an exploaded diagram of most locos, and you could try You tube for how to strip a loco. Bare in mind that most modern locos share a similar design with central can motor and flywheel, drive shafts and gear towers.
  18. try disconnecting the drive shafts and then try running the motor, if the motor runs freely then try stripping down the gear towers and cleaning all the old grease from the gears. Whilst doing this check all the gears for damage, once done put back the gears and relubricate.
  19. you could try contacting Shawplan and enquire if they have any plan to do a laser glazing set for the 101. If not you could find a company and get some laser cut for yourself.
  20. hi Charlie must say you've done a fantastic job on this one. Would you ever consider marketing the circuit boards, lights and chip so those of us with the standard Bachmann units could improve them and make them more prototypical.
  21. the choice is entirley yours however it is quite normal for people to "compress" the track plan when modelling a real location. It supprises most people just how much room is needed to model a certain location.
  22. so now starts the frothing, the image is a halfcab, so would put it out of the running for many modern modellers. Personally I'd prefer a Leyland Atlantean.
  23. so good to see a UK manufacturer actually investing in this country and our workforce, it may also help keep down the costs in shipping along with those ever growing delivery delays. Well done Dapol
  24. oh how I wish my wiring was that neat, here's to hoping my next layout will be better
  25. it may be worth remembering that the TTS chips are aimed at the beginner/low cost end of the market and as such it may well give problems with high end DCC controllers and software. You could say you get what you pay for. Not knocking them as I may purchase some later this year.
