  1. Looking good so far, I would go with the 2 VEA van bodies personaly but that is your choice. Look forward to seeing how the layout progresses.
  2. You could try to get hold of some Heljan parts for the class 26, or try Shawplan and A1 for etched brass details. You could also try to track down a Craftsman detailing pack on Ebay or second hand at an exhibition. If you feel really brave you could make your own details using photos as a reference.
  3. so a female Doctor, hope she knows where to find the dipstick in the tardis and which end of the sonic screwdriver to use. hat, coat, dematerialising.
  4. as has been said already this needs to be used as an event from which all other railway operators, mainline and preserved can learn and develop new maintenance and inspection programs. Ultimately it would not be productive for the preservation groups which are growing around the country to add loads more red tape to there operations and there shouldn't be any witch hunt for who was ultimately responsible, just retraining and education to prevent it happening again.
  5. no matter what the situation, surely if there is such a lack of coaching stock and the coach was so badly needed it should have at least had the floor replaced even if they didn't replace the toilet fittings.
  6. Was it a failed Deltic which caused the disruption for the Whitby services by any chance since it was being assisted by the gronk (class 08) as seen above.
  7. if you are using several layers of varnish or Woodland scenic realistic water, let each layer get touch dry and at that point you can paint in things like white highlights where fast flowing water and rocks are, then pour the next layer. I also managed to find some white fibre stuffing for cuddly animals which when teased out can look like spray from waterfalls.
  8. i managed to aquire all the wood i needed to make two 4 foot by 2 foot baseboards and 3 sets of legs when a neighbour got a new bed and threw out there old divan bed. I managed to get some great timber free for a days work dismantling two divan bed bases, I also got some good thick card to use in making some model buildings. Another couple of places to check out are charity shops and craft shops as you can find some nice little bits and pieces for not a lot of money.
  9. most modern nameplates are fitted with supposedly anti theft screws so who ever managed to remove the plate from the DRS loco must have previous knowledge of what tool would be required and so has already been said was "going equipped", how many real enthusiasts carry around that sort of kit.
  10. such a great loss, a very brave young soul who kept on smiling despite all. He showed us all that we should make the most of our lives. Now he wont have anymore pain and he can be at peace God bless Bradley R.I.P. little guy
  11. I remember several years ago as the class 66s took over I called in a Healey Mills (Nr Wakefield), there were rows of 37s, 47s, 56s and 58s awaiting the call to the cutters torch. I was told by a staff member that several name plates had been stolen and if I was offered any to contact the police.
  12. just caught a train depart for Whitby with a steam loco top and tailing
  13. you could look at Shipley station in West Yorkshire and the scrapyard on the Bradford Foster square line, now a lot less work but in the 80s and 90s it was busy and had 2 private shunters. They also used to scrap rail wagons, I remember seeing pictures of the ill fated Foster Yomen aluminium bodied hoppers stacked 3 high all around the yard and several fully loaded POA scrap wagons waiting for the next trip working
  14. you could try running it under the hot tap for a while then using a pair of pliers to hold the axle place the other end of the axle vertically on an ice cube
  15. had a quick look this morning just in time to catch a quick visit by the class 26, also noticed that the observation car has been removed from the dining train.
  16. try looking at jewelry making in craft shops for chain and other bits and pieces
  17. I've often thought about how much extra atmosphere you would be able to put into a layout if you could model weather, like rain or fog. Just think of a misty autumn morning and the sound of a loco moving around on a depot or yard then a set of lights then a loco appear out of the mist. Best you could do on a layout would be a smoke machine but they don't give the right effect and if you stand around in the smoke to long you end up choking. Rain you can get the sound, some puddles, people with umberellas but you don't get the ripples in the puddles water running off roofs.
  18. just tuned in to the sight of a very nice Finsbury park blue liveried Deltic humbing away at the platform.
  19. the photo of 08401 would appear to be taken at Leeds Midland Road, which is just down the road from the Hunslet Engine Works
  20. having looked at the pictures of both manufacturers models it would appear neither have done the widened deck for modern tracked vehicles so hopefully someone will do a set of etches to rectify this.
  21. things like this happening make you wonder if the management at Hornby have there finger on the pulse at the moment or are they to busy fighting in the boardroom, maybe if the spend more time listening to the consumers and less time fighting over ownership then sales may improve.
  22. this is what happens when you farm production out halfway round the world, nobody went out to check the original production run was the correct version of the wagon, they cant produce the hi spec models to replace the railroad spec ones as all there production slots are already taken up. Hornby really need to get a grip and start listening to there customers as the more they muck up the harder it will be to recover.
  23. if you want to look at it like that you could say the same for 75 percent of Mercedes wins as technically they were fought out in the qualifying sections and the actual races were just a case of follow the leader. This season is looking far better with some real racing and drivers and teams having to work hard for the finish
  24. with no actual incar shot of SV there isn't enough evidence that it was a deliberate act them touching wheels, however if you watch the incar from LH theres no way it wasn't deliberate unless SV had suffered a major steering fault which would have ment he would have to stop for safety reasons. As a result SV should have had a much harsher penalty for endangering other drivers, as LH said after the race, it could have had much worse consequences if they were travelling at race pace.
  25. there is a 4 mm scale drawing of the roof layout in the book "British Rail Main Line Diesel Locomotives by C.J.Marsden & G.B. Fenn" theres also a little bit on modelling 47901 in "Thoroughly Modern Models 1 Diesels in 4mm by Nigel Burkin" , hope this is helpful for you.
