  1. Charles Roberts were based at Horbury on the outskirts of Wakefield and built all sorts of wagons .Judging by the details on the plate it was a BR 16 ton wagon, possibly a mineral wagon.
  2. I will have to keep my eye on this site as they may produce a white toner cartridge for my printer yet. So far they cover several different makes and models.
  3. what sort of motor is it fitted with. If it is fitted with the old Hornby ringfield it may well have some parts of the outer casing which will short out the DCC chip but not the DC running of the motor. These contacts pass the current from the wheels on the motor bogie to of the brushes on the motor. It may require that you strip the motor and insulate the outer casings and solder the wires directly onto the brush contacts.
  4. I thought the official colour for the first of the 141s was Workington blue, which if I remember correctly one unit kept until the 141s were refurbed at which point it gained the then standard WYPE red and cream.
  5. I can think of three big stations off hand with bay platforms in island platforms, they are Leeds, Huddersfield and Warrington Bank Quay.
  6. Which version of Centro livery did the 2, 3 car prototype 150s carry and what years
  7. Whilst watching the camera today I have noticed that black five 45212 is fitted with a national network radio roof pod on its cab roof. A useful little detail for modellers of the modern era.
  8. Did the hoppers used as RNAs still retain the ladders on the ends or were they removed ?
  9. As far as I'm concerned when ever I look at a loco or item of rolling stock on Ebay I will consider it as pre owned, so I study any photos, read the description carefully and compare the price. If it then ticks all the boxes I want it to tick I may then place a bid. The thing to remember is BUYER BEWARE.
  10. That means I'll have to measure my table legs properly now.
  11. So in America, Mr Trump will blame it on the Chinese and then once he realises its coming from outer space it will become fake news. Then on the other side the North Korean's will blame the western world and fire several missiles at it, and in the mean time the boffins will sit there with there computers trying to work out if anything will servive other than the cockroaches.
  12. I see from todays loco roster that there is a visitor in action, 45212 another Black five.
  13. Anyone who would have reason to be on the track or within the railway land alongside the track bed. This would include track gangs, shunters, drivers, guards and depot staff. The main differences over time have been additional colours and the addition of reflective strips. You could also a hard hats for track gangs, shunters and depot staff. The design of hi vis clothing has changed also over this period, back in early 90s the waistcoats would have had rubber buttons and a couple of reflective strips and a reflective panel with BR logo on the rear. Now the waistcoats have Velcro fasteners and multiple reflective strips, they also carry many different logos for track maintenance firms. You will also notice similar changes to the other clothing that is worn such as weather proof jackets and leggings. Hope this is of some help.
  14. Fantastic news I'd love a couple, only problem is which ones. Time to start saving some pennies I think.
  15. Spent a great day out riding several vintage Leeds buses on Sunday at the Leeds running day. I will try to download some pics shortley
  16. There's two simple one word answers that are used by the top brass the world over, they are. COST or MANPOWER (lack of)
  17. I have seen somewhere on this forum some superb conversions of diecast mk1's into mk2's using the ABS casting to replace the bonnet, headlights and grill.
  18. The problem being he only sent them by recorded delivery, which means that it is only signed for on final delivery. It could pass through many pairs of hands and several sorting offices on route where it could get mislaid without it being noticed. If your goods are valuable then send them special delivery, it may cost a little more but the item is recorded at every point on route. Special delivery items are even sorted in a separate area of the sorting office thus making it much harder for items to be lost.
  19. I believe it could be 47330 Amlwch Freighter, named the month before the photo was taken, no nose number, no depot plaques.
  20. At this moment in time that's just under what my wife and myself have to live on per year, thanks to jobseekers. We are both signing on at the moment and only get £200 per fortnight between us and that has to pay for our utility bills, food and transport. We only get housing and council tax paid for us, if we got a job requiring a prepaid season ticket how on earth could we find that sort of money, and people wonder how the gap is getting wider between the rich and the poor.
  21. You can find loads of useful info and photos on "class47.co.uk". Some of the main things you should check are the type of tank/battery box the loco carries, the type of headcode panel and marker lights carried, the shape and type of the boiler port fitted, and position of ETH equipment if fitted. Hope this is of some help.
  22. I know how you feel, when the mojo isn't there even a stick of TNT couldn't get you moving. Take a break and chill for a while, but don't be to hasty to get rid of the layout as you may regret it in the future. You could try building a little shunting plank for a change, possibly even different era or gauge.
  23. A few years back I saw one of the London f.b. Volvo 8x4 Bronto skylifts parked up at the West Yorkshire f.b. training center a Birkenshaw. I have also seen several other appliances visiting the center from several other areas, but nothing as big. On a slight tangent, recently Mirfield fire station was attacked by an arsonist who managed to start a fire at the rear of the building which caused approx. £30,000 of damage. Fortunately nobody was hurt as its a retained station and there was no damage to the appliance or equipment, but it does mean that at the moment the station is unavailable as its regular charity venue. What sort of idiot tries to burn down a fire station ?
  24. For many years of my spotting days I also had a fire appliance spotting book in with my track plant books in my camera bag. The guys I went spotting with used to find it funny but got used to it even to the point of jotting down appliance number plates themselves. Now living in Mirfield I get the chance to visit Batley quite regularly and thus the Angloco appliance factory, which is directly beside Batley railway station. If you go there during the week in working hours you can quite often find part built appliances alongside the back of the building visable from the trains and as you come out of the station the gateway to the factory is to your right, you can often find new appliances or appliances requiring repair in the yard.
