  1. Leeds Neville Hill depot has Northern Rail units, Midlands HSTs and Virgin east coast servicing all on one site.
  2. Try looking at the vac formed plastic packaging you get these days, or the packaging from some pills once used. You may find some useful little pieces once cut out and painted.
  3. The light issue seems to be a relatively common problem on several Hornby diesel locos, and seems to be caused by the use of contact strips to allow the removal of the body. If you remove the body they can be a pain to get a good contact once you replace the shell. As you have said the answer may be to hard wire the lights, however it may be useful to fit some micro plugs to allow you to remove the body in future.
  4. Whats the betting Hammy will ask Botas to act as a rolling roadblock later in the season as a return for the position this weekend.
  5. It would be OK getting Mike Brewer to sell them but it would definatley take more than Edd China and a workshop lift to do all the restoration work required to get them back into good running order.
  6. Looking very nice, it reminds me of the locos used for shunting at the channel tunnel or in steel works.
  7. If 60098 is not a viable prospect for resale I would have hoped it could be gifted to the NRM as it is of some historical interest being the 1000 th loco built by brush and an example of the last class of mainline diesel loco built in Britain for British Rail.
  8. When EWS took over the freight operations they appeared to have something against Brush locomotives. The 47s were at the end of there working lives, but the 60s and 92s had years left on them however many were left to rot and then it was decided its to costly to resurrect them. The 92s were never used to full potential which is an utter waste.
  9. I have been watching today and caught a quick visit by the Southern liveried schools class Repton. Was it a test run from the shed or is she now in full service ?
  10. I'll go for Ravensthorpe on the transpenine route, many years ago it had a wooden building, which was burnt out and torn down. It now has the usual bus shelters and reduced length platforms with the original length platforms overgrown and decaying. The station itself is a little away from any housing and is surrounded by industrial areas. Its a cold desolate place on a cold wet winters night ( I know, I used to use it )
  11. I'd be interested in the following as I could definatley do with a little help in these areas Soldering DCC Track construction Wiring Detailing RTR stock Improving road vehicles Painting and Weathering
  12. Are we forgetting the train that leaves platform 9 and 3/4 at London Kings Cross and arrives at a country station called Hoggs Mead, which in the films looks remarkably like Goathland, having travelled over the horse shoe viaduct in Scotland on the way. This journey features several times in different books and films from the Harry Potter series.
  13. Another small local model shop gone thanks to the internet. We need to start supporting these little shops and using them or else we will end up with nowhere that a modeller can actually visit and browse. It will also make this hobby the preserve of the wealthy as once it all goes onto the internet it all become credit card only. Little Johnny wont be able to go spend birthday or pocket money at the model shop anymore.
  14. I never cared much for crumble when at school, I looked forward to my weekly serving of chocolate sponge and green mint custard which is know just a distant memory. As for crumble, its just got to be in a bowl surrounded with thick creamy hot custard. It just doesn't work otherwise.
  15. That's quite some coincidence that they announce that the ERM is to close just days after the government announced the dropping of several electrification projects. This is still bad news, I hope a new home can be found and the collection kept together.
  16. Before we know it somebody will find some sort of solid fossil fuel which can be used to heat a liquid and produce a gas which can then be used to power a device which can then be used to pull the trains.
  17. How much of the cost increases are caused by having to find companies who can manufacture the equipment to the right technical specs and using the right materials. In years gone by we had more engineering firms who local to the job, who when competing for the contract could keep prices competitive, where as now there are far fewer engineering firms so they can charge what they feel like.
  18. As has been mentioned the trusses used in older buildings are if you study pictures generally a bigger section of timber which would allow for larger spacings between them.
  19. I would expect it to have had more trusses as they take the weight and stress of the entire roof, you'd be surprised by how much a roof full of tiles actually weighs. I would space trusses about 2-3 feet apart, in 4 mm scale that's 8-12 mm apart. You could use match sticks to make you trusses with little pieces of silver foil glued over the joints to represent the metal plates used on real roof trusses. For more ideas and pictures try looking on Google Images and look at roof trusses.
  20. How can any of these so called celebs justify salaries that are anywhere near what the lowest paid on the list get when we have nurses, care workers, fire fighters, police officers, 100s of thousands of people that go out every day and spend there working hours grafting, doing hard physical work for far, far less.
  21. I pass the Hoyer tanker yard on Leeds rd. Huddersfield quite often whilst travelling on the top deck off a local bus service and you can often spot a couple of preserved old trucks tucked in amongst the tanker trailers. I also regularly see a Diomond T and Leyland Martian recovery vehicles which have been sat at a recovery agents yard for years on Dewsbury road.
  22. I'd guess at Exeter or St. Philip's marsh (Bristol) for the actual home depots but may fuel up and receive intermediate attention at Long Rock or Laira.
  23. I thought that all the pacers where to be withdrawn by 2020 so its pointless doing any refurbishment work or modifications to them.
  24. It may also be a good idea to check and clean the commutator on the motor. If there are carbon deposits on the copper contact parts this could cause the motor problems when trying to set off, it would also require more power. The cleaner the commutator the easier it will be to get running.
