  1. I sought of posted the solution in my earlier posting - remote control battery powered loco. Relatively easy to do with older diesels that had bags of space within the body http://www.micronradiocontrol.co.uk/rc_model_rail.html
  2. There's a review in the latest Model Rail.
  3. Tried and failed to remove the tension locks. Seem overly clipped in the mount and possibly needing the clip ends to be cut carefully. Opted to fit replacement NEM pockets. I had ordered a complete set of plates from Railtec and the thinner numbers of the smokebox numberplate compared to the printed ones have quite an impact on the "face" of the loco.
  4. Possibly because it's blue and blue steam locos do sell well normally
  5. Two ways of cutting down on the need for track cleaning are ensuring all wheels on all coaches and wagons have metal tyres and not using locos fitted with traction tyres.
  6. Provided the layout is up, if something is playing up find a work round. I had a point fail on the station buffers end crossover. So instead of running round I had to make extra use of the station pilot or bring a new loco for the train off the depot.
  7. I have a largely inaccessible tunnel, due to the layout originally having been built for exhibition use where the back would be accessible. Concerned that a loco could become stuck attempting to clean the track I have adopted a Heljan 26 chassis to remote control battery operation. Potentially it rescue a stuck loco if the need arises.
  8. Judging by Rapidos comments it sounds largely like a one off. Certainly I had no problems with the Hunslet or Lion. Apart from the latter really needing a touch more glue in the fixing of its chimney. Fitted Railtec 3D plates to 1501. Allowed them to dry once off the backing paper and then glued in place with a permanent tacky PVA
  9. No manufacturer can guarantee their will not be any future QC issues. Equally it is quite likely that an individual shops supply of a particular model will all have a similar fault as the lack of attention on the production line would be likely to affect a number of models which then get boxed together and ultimately that box finds to its way tol a particular shop. That was the case way back when Triang Hornby released their 9F and the entire stock in one shop turned out to be dead despite apparently having been test run before despatch from the factory.
  10. When you refit the body a push down on the chimney seems to be necessary to get to the outside steam pipes to slip back into place right.
  11. I have a watch on eBay for that coach- seems ages since I got a notification of such. There were a few on some time back and all went for far more than £12.
  12. Decoder fitted (Gaugemaster) and found the direction needs changing. Also the firebox is on F1 not F0. Set CV135 to 8 (random flicker type) and CV51 to 33 (F1 feature = random flicker) Seems a touch bright but unsure what else to change
  13. Just a note that when the instructions say "Remove the screws and gently prise the tank / cab section" a bit more than just the tanks and cab comes off
  14. I remember one big layout where due a point failure nothing was run for ages because the operators could not fathom out how to run the layout without keeping to their preset rosta. Simply send something round somehow did not enter their minds.
  15. Was in the Sept issue - pages 474-479 Highland Hubris - The Burghead & Hopeman Branch Part 1
  16. Its a nice touch that a number of businesses are doing but being a coeliac they typically get taken to work for someone else to scoff; the exception is the business that sends Haribo out. One business included some individually mint chocolates but no where did the packaaging say what was in the chocolate.
  17. The cable from the transformer plugs into the hand unit using a 2.1 x 10 mm plug. Simplest is to get an appropriate extension lead.
  18. f0 - headlights (directional) f1 - interior lights f2 - tail lights (directional, requires f0 on) f3 - step lights f4 - search lights (directional, requires f0 on)
  19. Well that was a surprise. Postie hammering on door this morning with a Rapido Trains labelled box sent Tracked 24. Replacement 1501 in it which is intact, no paint missing and runs smoothly.
  20. If it's second hand I would be suspecting the motor is damaged in some way.
  21. Mine has gone back to Rapido - they reckon a 2-3 weeks turn round. No issues with it being bought not directly from them and the seller had sold out. Would recommend anyone with one that is faulty in some respect does the same as I would expect it either gets repaired or replaced by one that hopefully is fully checked before it gets sent, Aside from the missing paint issues, having said it was a good runner once slowed to almost a crawl it did wobble so noted that as well, Nothing to lose in doing so as far I can see - they send a Tracked 48 label for the return and having posted mine yesterday luchtime and so far it has got to the Meday Mail Centre having first had a Trans Pennine journey to the North West superhub.
