I don't see any reason why not. Some of the very latest mk3's have a plastic holder and a box to place the battery in but not all do. For those that don't you need to take the body on and off for battery replacement. I have placed these light strips in mk3's and mk2's without any issue. Now that runs tend to be smaller I do pre order most of the locos that I want for my N gauge layout. That said I don't purchase many for this. I pre order a lot more rolling stock than locos. I don't pre order locos for my children's railway. They get what I can get what I can find at a good price, almost entirely second hand (often from auctions).

Keep an eye on eBay, people keep selling their unwanted boxes. You might get lucky and find the correct box for your locos or you might find a random one that fits.

That is a very flattering photo of the old chassis, it's awful from most other views. Peco achieved the "fineness" of the under frame at the expense of the depth. Many of the bits you can see are 5-6mm deep.

But compared to the old Peco van chassis it looks so much better.

Looks like a totally new chassis. I don't remember seeing a Peco van with a new version, I wonder if this is a sign of new models to come?

I have a 60cm metal ruler that has helped. That said laying a smooth curve is a right pain.
