  1. I also seem to recall that being an NBR Atlantic driver came with kudos and a higher wage. Star was popular embellishment and other personalization tweaks I recall include burnishing edge smoke box wing plates & thistles on smoke box front. Unique they are only Scottish Atlantics and had a torrid birth with NBR Civil Engineer (James Bell) concerned with potential track damage. They were also initially too big for currently installed NBR turntables. I think they even considered re-building at one point to 4-6-0 Midlothian 9875 was supposed to be part of the LNER Historic Collection at York and after being just saved at 11th hour from scrapping it was re-built and kept working for further few months more. Onset of 2nd World War & drive for metal finally did for her & she was scrapped uniquely for a 2nd time. Wonder who has a soft spot for them??
  2. Like the old picture, it’s LWR and the current steamer is Spitfire, an 0-4-0 Barclay.
  3. The Grimsby one is a Scherzer rolling lift bascule bridge to give it its posh name over Alexandra Dock Just has a shed load of maintenance recently I think, so might work if required but wouldn't bet on it? Been in area years and never ever recall it in up position. In my triathlon days was one end of our open water swim section. Even more oddly this and some other Grimsby landmarks were/are models in Legoland
  4. Much karma to you regarding this build. Well well beyond my ability. From what seen, unfortunately this is one locomotive kit I’ll not be adding to my build list
  5. Indeed I was. Pointless trying elsewhere, not enough light as pre-sunrise.
  6. Interesting start to day. Challenged by Revenue Protection when attempting to see usual training run class 68 Usually passes 07:35 ex Grimsby to Manchester. This was promptly cancelled at 07:34 and then ran ECS a few minutes later.
  7. Think usual pair in Grimsby this AM but challenging with all the muck
  8. Thanks for prompt reply. Interestingly the Friends of the Far North Line website entry on WW1 Dalmore Branch doesn't mention. Same uncropped image is on the website It does mention G3 No 146, a small 0-4-0 saddle tank and a selection of LBSCR Terriers (specifically 37, 79, 81 and 83) Further digging and IRS book on Scotland doesn't help much either, mentions Dalmore & Invergordon suggests 6 locomotives on site but only details 3 The Adam LSWR radial tank & NER 0-4-4 tanks are well known and photographed
  9. Sorry bit late but where is Scotland did No 4 get too during WWI? I was aware of different H&BR locomotive at Dalmore and involved with the mine laying barrage. Fair to say some interesting foreign locomotives made it to Highland Railway during WW1
  10. FYI the stated image is Loch Tay shed on Killin Branch. Same uncredited image is on Flickr and dated 1962
  11. Look at SRPS museum website? Their Thompson 3rd was a grounded body used as a mess van at Bellahouston if I recall correctly. During preservation it re-acquired bogies.
  12. The real tender frame survivor. Used as fuel oil store for early LNER diesel shunters
  13. As die hard NBR fan who even wrote article for NBR study group journal about the survivor tender from Cambridge area now with SRPS in Bo’ness this isn’t something I’ll be tackling. I have nothing but admiration & would love to hear % of kit that is actually used from curiosity.
  14. Thanks and also not a bad load for said locomotive given the route. Personal interest is the NBR Yeast vans that went similar route to Burton from either Edinburgh or Alloa?
  15. 2 copies of image in NBR Study Group archives & also published in O S Nock book regarding NBR Agree with thoughts & doesn’t appear split into Glasgow/Edinburgh sections either
  16. Yes it is a steel-clad Gresley FB but the current custodians web site gives a much fuller history and it’s rather unique position as previous use in a hospital train.
  17. Stand corrected 1 number out on leading class 66 Rather gave class 37 IMHO Can’t blame the gunge as error was cleaner end😂
  18. Usual suspects in platform 3 Grimsby today though harder to I/D under all the grot/gunge & grime
  19. Seems to have had red tail lamp added during journey. Real-time trains website had no passing times from Bridlington so took a real punt at Beverley. Anything to get out of shopping
