  1. I converted a Bachmann Ivatt to a Riddles 2MT couple of years ago.
  2. When coal was delivered to a coal merchants siding on a suburban branch line, would the loco wait till the wagons had been emptied into the coal staithes and then take away the empty wagons, or would the empties be picked up later, say the next day?
  3. Thanks Clive. Re. the BR emblem on the trailer units, the photos in the 2 books I have show both units carrying the emblem, circa 1959 when they were brand new. Photos taken later on from around 1963 they are missing on the trailer units. Would they have had a repaint after only 4 years and the emblem was not applied?
  4. Finally finished the trailer car. I also added a third rail to the layout.
  5. I require the shorter drawbar for the 4CEP Class 411 (2nd down in the above photo), but can not find a part no. for it. The longer drawbar (top in photo) is part no. is 36-063. Can anyone help?
  6. Regardless as to whether you have any interest in railways or not, this is a terrific film, a great story, and one of my all time favourites. No special effects or CGI here, the train crashes are for real.
  7. Yes David you're right, the trailer is 7 and 7 vents. In the photo above the trailer does have a vent missing. Probably as you say plated over if it was leaking.
  8. David, no, the trailer car has 6 vents along one side and 7 along the other (drivers side), the motor car has 4 along one side and 5 along the drivers side.
  9. Half way there. Converted the motor unit, going to take a break before starting on the trailer unit. The cab front windows needed a slight mod, the top of the window should be parallel with the bottom edge, and they should be slightly wider than they are high, ie. rectangular and not square. I used the original Bachmann roof to utilise the clips that hold it to the body. Removed all the roof detail, chopped off the front 15mm and stuck the front (15 mm) of the DC Kits roof on. I also modified the destination window on the DC kits roof to make it slightly bigger, and added a white LED to the destination window and red LED tail lights.
  10. If you placed your order in October I would suspect it has gone astray. I placed mine beginning of December and it took 6 weeks before I received it. I know about the problems re. his car accident, but my order was 2 weeks before that. After phoning a few times to chase it, he said he had sent it a week ago, but would send it again, and if the original ordered turned up to return it. The "2nd" order arrived 2 days later, the original never did. The website has had a message for a week or so asking not to phone so he can deal with orders.
  11. Have just bought some 6mm Tamiya masking tape to use a straight edge when applying coach lining (0.35m wide). How long would you recommend before removing the tape after the lining transfers have been applied?
  12. Ah yes, they do look the same, that probably explains it. Thanks.
  13. Just as a matter of interest, I noted in the book "Manchester to Bury the 'Lecky' Line", that the motor car was always at the Bury end, and the trailer car at the Manchester end of the line. What would have been the reason for this? There is also a diagram of both cars, stating the trailer car having 42" dia. wheels, and the motor car 40" wheels, why would they be different diameters?
  14. Yes I have seen Holcombe Brook, it's about 4 or 5 years ago now, but I don't know if it's still going.
  15. Craig, my layout is fictitious somewhere in Manchester circa 1960. I'm going to give the 504 yellow warning panels which came in around 1962, as that is how I remember them.
  16. Yes David they were, I remember them up to about 1968/9.
  17. Thanks Clive much appreciated. So only one Ladies Only, and two 1st class compartments, and the other 2 single compartments 2nd class No Smoking.
  18. I'm currently converting a 2EPB to a 504. There were 5 single compartments in the trailer car, of which 3 were 1st class and 2 Ladies Only, but I can not find out which were which. Does anyone know?
  19. I fitted pick ups to both bogies and the all the lights work when loco is in FWD direction, when I reverse the loco direction the interior lights in the trailer car go off and there is no head code light. I swapped the connections on the trailer PCB, orange wire to PAD 1, brown wire to PAD 2, but still got the same result. Can any one suggest the cause?
  20. Thanks for your reply RFS, which led me to where problem was. The loco has been converted to EM and the copper wheel bearings removed to facilitate the wider gauge, (it's a tight fit between the frames), the trailer car wheels were not picking up from the rails, so the circuit had no return. If I fitted pickups to just one bogie (ie. so 4 wheels would be picking up) would that be enough for the lights to work, or would both bogies need doing?
  21. I have asked a question about this loco in the DCC section, but this is a different problem, which I don't think is DCC specific. Bachmann 2EPB Class 416: the interior lights and both the directional headcode lights work on the motor car, but not on the trailer car. The power for the lights to the trailer car comes from the motor car via 2 wires in the coupling/drawbar, one, an orange wire that connects to a terminal on the trailer PCB (PAD2), and a brown wire that connects to PAD 1. I have tested these pads and there is current to them when the lights are switched on. But there is no current to the terminals at the front end of the cab, (red arrows on 1st photo) that connect to the PCB in the roof for the interior lights. Also whilst testing I found that when the probe touched across terminals 1&2 for the headcode lights (see 2nd photo), the lower headcode light came on, when direction was reversed and the probe touched across terminals 2&3 the upper headcode light came on. (This photo is actually of the motor car, but both cars headcode PCB's are the same). Can any one offer any advice?
  22. Thanks again for your reply. Excuse me but electrics is not my strong suit, if I'm just effectively moving the headcode light to the destination window does the LED need a resistor? Also the interior lights in the trailer car are not working, I removed the PCB and found 2 wires, orange and brown were not connected to anything. These wires come from the coupling link (arrowed), so the trailer car's interior lights get their power fed from the motor car. Do you know which terminals the orange and brown wires should be connected? It looks like they may have been connected to 2 of the 3 terminals, marked 1 _ 3.
