I have just taken delivery of my first ever 3D printed items: some GWR Dean bogies and some GWR 9ft American bogies. What would Swindon of a century ago make of this?!
-
So, when can we expect the N Gauge Society to, erm, release their GWR Collett K41 BG in OO?

Do I detect a glimmer of modelling mojo returning to my thoroughly-sick-of-winter self?

After a quick bit of totting-up, pre-order arrivals in 2017 are going to require a remortgage!

If you are going to be building coach and wagon kits, and be messing about with brass, plasticard and lost wax, does one need a Dremel?

There is now a Q6 on the Great Western Railway. The art of seduction.

How many GWR 56xx does one without a layout need?

Time for the annual stock stock take! Now, is there anything I could move on to a better home to fund a frivolous Q6...

My Swindon proclivities were almost seduced by the Crewe and Doncaster persuasions at Grosmont on Sunday!

Repeat after me: "I will not become a chequebook modeller. I will not become a chequebook modeller..."

Vacillated on buying some beautiful kit built GWR 70 footers on eBay, and now they've gone! They were £300 for three though...

So that's 50% of 1/12 of my 2016 modelling projects done... well at least the E137 Composite looks nice in Hawksworth livery on the compartment side!
-
And 28/38xx number five falls into my ebay shopping basket. Oh dear. Well, Hornby ain't making another 38xx in GWR livery for a long time: my justification!

A picture fell off the wall and damaged three of my Hornby Colletts :-(

So that's Castle number 6 acquired, with 0 route miles to run them on. Priorities!

Sat in my modelling room, on the site of Shed 53C, surrounded by locos shedded at 81A - with Hornby's King James I having just 'come on shed' for the first time!

Has caved and bought a new Hornby King for a bargain price. Do I still want my two on pre-order from Hattons? You bet!

Where's coachmann?

Had a fantastic day riding behind the Flying Scotsman on the NYMR yesterday. Where else could you be pulled by a Gresley A3 pacific and banked by a Stanier Black 5 up a 1 in 49? Tremendous.

Barry - Scotsman failed on the 9:30am off Grosmont with a vacuum brake problem, and whilst they sorted it at the shed for the much delayed 12:30pm off Grosmont (left at 1:30pm!) they had the Black 5 bank her up to Goathland 'just in case' it happened again, which it didn't. Result being that 60103 gave a stirring solo run from Goathland up to the summit! Just a superb day.

My kids have always been great fans of the NYMR, a day trip from Whitby to Pickering was always a feature of their childhood holidays there, like taking a photo of them all on the "Aidensfield bench". Last time we were in Whitby we saw a steam loco actually in Whitby, I wasn't sure about that, I always regarded the rattly, malodorous railbus to Goathland as an important part of the trip. Once we missed the return connection and returned from Goathland on a straining bus (the drive...

One cannot have enough locomotives in wartime black.
