Thanks John we both use Pursa slicer and I have a track profile already. My next task is to print the filing jig and sort the profile for that out as well. One thing that has come up when i save the fixed file in Templot and then open in Pursa I have to do a further Stl fix. It is simple just a right click on the item and select Netfab again this is an Stl repair utility online once done no further problems I can then inPursa save the item again as a fully fixed g-code with all the profiles embedded. Also I do not have to worry about doing extra glue on my build plate. I also use a Pei bed. Keith

Thanks John I will be very interested in the resin setup. Currently my son-in-law has the same fdm printer I have so be bounce backwards and forwards with problems solutions etc. I think ne will be also very interested in the resin set up as well. I have always wanted to build my own track but have not got on with the relevant ways so far. It was not until I as allowed to bui.d one of the first kits from Wayne that it seamed to come together. I do call myself the ham fisted modeller and have looked on in awe of you and the other experts….. It was seeing the late Sid Stubbs layout in Railway Modeller many years ago that made me want to see if I could do it. I have set myself a challenge of building a small layout in EM as my first layout. So thanks to you and Martin I can see it happen in the next year. Keith

I followed James video for plug track and went from zero to printable file in less than an hour. In the past few days I have printed out about yard of plain track timbers. Today I printed our a A6 turnout timbers. The print took 6 hours 25 minutes and an estimated cost of £0.42p. Keith

Yet again thank you Martin I appreciate that for you at the moment typing is an issue yet you keep helping all of us. I am only joking about the filament colour. However all the trial pieces will be kept and potentially used in fiddle yards. I have set a track profile for Cura and also in Pursa. I have had some issues with printer settings and needed to alter the G code. Not the g code from the slicer. I am still working on creating the timber brick but will get there. I have managed to use the cut option in Pursa slicer to break down a full turnout Stl to print into two pieces. I will try that print tomorrow. Keith

All looking good John well done. I just need to learn how to create a timbering brick so that I can do a trail turnout print just to use up my terrible orange filament. Keith

Another design software is Designspark mechanical. Earlier this year I went from zero to an acceptable print after having an fdm printer for three years. For me it clicked when I saw a post on the narrow gauge forum that said it was all down to just circles and squares. I know it is not that simple and it takes time but just keeping going it will happen. Even now I am learning new ways on a daily basis. My most stupid one was down to the use of the English language. For a couple of months I have looked at an icon called project…… I assumed wrongly that this was being able to save a design as a project! I know you are all screaming at me that it is in fact to be used to project a line or shape onto a facet. But when you have never done 3D design before it does take a bit of time. As ever talk to friends relations use this and other forums also YouTube has most of the answers you need. Keith

John the 7mm section are using the right profile for timbers as it looks like you are using the other profile. Keith

Thanks John and Martin it’s just great to see all this happening. I am reasonably happy to print out a timber block need to get into turnout printing so need to watch James video on how to use Templot. His Videos are fantastic. Also John I will follow your set up and starting out in resin as I believe the Christmas fairy may have a big package coming my way plus a bottle or two of resin. Then I will need some rail so in the new year an order to Phil for some code 75 nickel silver. Keith

So what make of car was it Jim. I heard that the Fiesta is a favoured vehicle for attacking but I have seen on fb several small cars as well. Keith

Hi James, thank you for the kind comments. As for drawings I am still looking for some as well. I am working from the diagram books found on the Barrowmore group website so far from a rivet counters needs. I contacted Hastings diesel but they said they did not have any drawings. From then on I used some dimensions from the Golding book of Southern my thinking be that Eastleigh would have standard jigs . Keith

The cost of printers are falling. Basic and very capable machines of both types are now available namely for FDM there is the Kingroom and for resin there is the Geeteck Alkaid both currently at just over £100 a piece. But it maybe a local group of friends or a model club may have access to both types of machine. Currently I have an FDM machine but SWMBO is thinking of talking to Father Christmas about the Geeteck. However I am also as seen above designing items for my hobby as well as the plug track. Keith

Yes Nick the video is brilliant and I just followed the instructions and within a couple of hours I had a test panel printed despite the computer issues. Well another day and more test pieces. I can report that my computer issues have been resolved. As ever for all the latest details on plug track the Templot forum is the place to go to. Keith

Well a further diversion and still a warning about the colour……… First try of a typical Ffestiniog/Welsh highland coach number 22. Yes I know the roof does not fit. Also started on play with Templot and plug track after a-couple of false starts here is a test track panel for EM gauge. Keith

John all the best with the setup. Is there an option to add a level sensor on you machine. My Ender3 pro now has such a probe and it’s now just switch on and leave the machine alone to do its thing. Do you have someone local to you who has the same machine they could assist. I am very lucky in that my son-in-law has the same machine as me and a lot more experience of 3D design and printing. But when it comes to the future resin printer then we will both be scratching our heads. I tried a test print of a timber base today but had a few issues will try again in the morning. It might have been finger trouble. Keith

I must admit I have had my printer for three years. But it’s only been the last six or so months that I have managed to get a handle on design work and fully use the printer. Some of my work is in my thread “Oh for a good thump”. Just as a try I am going to print out a timber base in the morning. Currently the printer is working on a Ffestiniog coach. Keith

I have just spent a couple of hours with James video.I have gone from zero to downloading a timber base in that time. The only problem I had was getting 3D builder to download. I am now looking forward to James next video for turnouts. Also need to get a resin printer. Keith

I am in a similar position I have a 3D FDM printer(Ender 3pro) but also want to add a resin one as well. Also I am following the thread on Templot forum with a lot of interest. For me it is the fact that the chairs are better to handle than the likes of C and L etc. For my future plans I can see a combination of Finetrax kits and 3D printed areas as well. Maybe either Wayne or Phil might taken up the idea of producing the Templot style of chairs so that those of us with one printer could get started. Keith

Yes looks a great plan. There is not much of the East coast mainline left to be modelled. If I am right we have Peterborough north, Grantham, now Doncaster and York and Edinburgh Waverley. How about them all connected together at the nec. Maybe Pete Waterman could build Kings Cross and maybe Copenhagen fields in 4mm. Keith

Here’s a couple for you. The good old Southern(Surrey) heights railway. A proposal from the good colonel would have been operated by the Southern with the provision for 3rd rail. Proposed route was even displayed on maps in Southern carriages. The other one I have considered was the Redhill and Oxted junction railway. As with several light railways only built from Redhill to Godstone. In my mind it would have left the mainline north of Redhill using the route of the link to the Bis sidings. The line would follow the Holmsdale to Godstone. The terminus would be close to the yard of Fairalls builders merchants. Traffic would have been general goods, building materials and coal and agricultural products inbound. For outbound there would have been sand, gravel and closer to Redhill fullers earth. Passenger traffic would have been light and eventually closed down as passengers would find it quicker to go to Catherham. Keith
