  1. John all the best with the setup. Is there an option to add a level sensor on you machine. My Ender3 pro now has such a probe and it’s now just switch on and leave the machine alone to do its thing. Do you have someone local to you who has the same machine they could assist. I am very lucky in that my son-in-law has the same machine as me and a lot more experience of 3D design and printing. But when it comes to the future resin printer then we will both be scratching our heads. I tried a test print of a timber base today but had a few issues will try again in the morning. It might have been finger trouble. Keith
  2. I must admit I have had my printer for three years. But it’s only been the last six or so months that I have managed to get a handle on design work and fully use the printer. Some of my work is in my thread “Oh for a good thump”. Just as a try I am going to print out a timber base in the morning. Currently the printer is working on a Ffestiniog coach. Keith
  3. I have just spent a couple of hours with James video.I have gone from zero to downloading a timber base in that time. The only problem I had was getting 3D builder to download. I am now looking forward to James next video for turnouts. Also need to get a resin printer. Keith
  4. I am in a similar position I have a 3D FDM printer(Ender 3pro) but also want to add a resin one as well. Also I am following the thread on Templot forum with a lot of interest. For me it is the fact that the chairs are better to handle than the likes of C and L etc. For my future plans I can see a combination of Finetrax kits and 3D printed areas as well. Maybe either Wayne or Phil might taken up the idea of producing the Templot style of chairs so that those of us with one printer could get started. Keith
  5. Health warning I know it’s a bit bright but I need to use up this reel of filament. Well yet another Ffestiniog loco this time my first attempt at Linda Also a start on a tender as well. Keith
  6. Yes looks a great plan. There is not much of the East coast mainline left to be modelled. If I am right we have Peterborough north, Grantham, now Doncaster and York and Edinburgh Waverley. How about them all connected together at the nec. Maybe Pete Waterman could build Kings Cross and maybe Copenhagen fields in 4mm. Keith
  7. You got there before me……….. Use to love correcting English teachers. Keith
  8. Now how about a dyno drive for the boosters so model reflects the original……….just saying. Keith
  9. Here’s a couple for you. The good old Southern(Surrey) heights railway. A proposal from the good colonel would have been operated by the Southern with the provision for 3rd rail. Proposed route was even displayed on maps in Southern carriages. The other one I have considered was the Redhill and Oxted junction railway. As with several light railways only built from Redhill to Godstone. In my mind it would have left the mainline north of Redhill using the route of the link to the Bis sidings. The line would follow the Holmsdale to Godstone. The terminus would be close to the yard of Fairalls builders merchants. Traffic would have been general goods, building materials and coal and agricultural products inbound. For outbound there would have been sand, gravel and closer to Redhill fullers earth. Passenger traffic would have been light and eventually closed down as passengers would find it quicker to go to Catherham. Keith
  10. At the end of the day an Stl is just a holding file.it’s produced from the design software for a slicer to turn into a gcode. It’s that final file that gets printed. Every few days I see changes to the configuration data set for the Pursa slicer this is adding new or revised printers. So the software is constantly changing are we in a similar situation as we have had with video and 8track/cassette we wait and see. Maybe a further development will be taking out the slicer element so that the design software will output the relevant gcode. Keith
  11. Nice to see 313201 is going into preservation. May be John Upton will get to drive it again. Keith
  12. Another day another Ffestiniog loco. Now we have Conway castle a close cousin of Upnor castle. sitting on the wrong chassis but it gives an idea and with Upnor castle.
  13. There was also the wagon works as well. Did Gower chemicals that took over the old Danygraig shed get an rail delivery’s. Keith
  14. Agree on the blogs for the railway they are great at giving an insight as to what is happening. There is also very much a theme that runs through them and that seams to be about tea and various cakes/doughnuts………. Keith
  15. Does any one know the dimension of the screw/bolt that is used for fixing the bogie through the pivot point. It looks to be around an M1 but I would like to know the correct dimension to get the correct bolt as I need one that is longer than the one supplied. Keith
  16. This is nothing new….. This was originally announced along with two new bus routes from Newport to Cardiff when they cancelled the M4 bypass for the Brynglas tunnels. What’s next from the bay a man with a red flag walking in front of every car. Mind you that would reduce unemployment. Keith
  17. Latest trial print of Ffestiniog Upnor Castle. The chassis is designed around a 35mm Tenshodo unit. This is 3mm under the wheelbase but the overall effect is not too bad. I still have to work on the radiator. Keith
  18. One from Britain above to look at. Castle Meads power station Gloucester built during ww2. Rail connection from the GWR Llananthony dock branch also fed by barge. Loco used was a Andrew Barclay fire less now preserved at the Vale of Berkeley railway. Keith
  19. It’s very subjective for many different reasons. For me it would be Clan line. I saw her in br service at Southampton and at rest at Nine Elms. Now I can see her still doing what she does best and looking a lot better than in late br days. Keith
  20. Over scale Fire Queen, surely it’s running on the correct gauge thou. Keith
  21. Hi Jason thanks for the input. Myself and my son-in-law are looking into the issue. I use a layer height of 0.2 but we are going to look at belt tightening. These are only test mules at the moment as I will be getting a resin printer soon. Mind you they could be used as a diorama based in part of Boston Lodge in the late forties overgrown and rusting. Keith
  22. Bit earlier but what about the fertiliser traffic. I believe that Andover junction had only a couple of vans. Keith
  23. I would keep plugging on with the new skills you are getting. It’s only been in the past few months that it has started to come together for me. Every day it seams I am learning new skills with the software I am using(Designspark mechanical). As an example today I managed to produce a steam dome complete with a flare to suit a saddle tank. I know several of you out there are saying that is just a simple operation but when you have never done it it does become an achievement. There is always a solution to most things. For me it’s been watching various YouTube videos and adapting the process to my model requirements. Keith
  24. I agree with the thought of start with an FDM printer and then either find someone who has a resin printer or use a print service. Yes I want to get a resin printer and SWMBO has already promised me one. However I have held back as I want to ensure I can produce other designs good enough to use both machines. It has only been the last few months that 3D has clicked for me. But I know that with Templot you do not need the design skills as Martin has done it all for us. It is though the ability to now be able to produce your own track that will look more real than toy that to me a hamfisted modeller is the greatest of advancement. Please keep it going Martin……….. Keith
  25. Well as a diversion from the DEMUS I also have a love of all things Ffestiniog. So armed with a drawing of Prince from the 7mm narrow gauge society. I started to do a 3D design. There are errors with the drawing and I also used data from Festipedia. So again printed on my Ender3 pro an FDM machine. This is not one for the river counters but just as an exercise. Whilst doing this design again I have learnt new elements that adds to my knowledge. I did one print of the complete loco but found it better to breakdown the model into three parts. I have also included some blackhead details firehole door, regulator and gauge glasses.
