  1. More coils made from thin card , as i require a fair few coils for our layout this is a cheap option , very cheap as i get the thin card from work !
  2. If there is interest I will post all the Tops pools for the BAA wagons from 1988 which I still have (this covers every baa in the fleet as was) except the odd few ie ... The one FOA flask carrier as there was only one in 1988 (900115) and the structure flex covered wagon 900160
  3. I was lucky enough to buy a EWS one for the grand sum of £2.oo second hand !
  4. Looks great , got a few BBA to do , redone as BSA and BWA ( bottom pic)
  5. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/baa/h2ca80536 These are the BSA that I would like to do , Stenson models do all the cradles except for the ex boa middle cradle , hopefully someone will do them
  6. BZA with etched cradles , this was a Bachmann BAA with the middle section of the ends removed as with nearly all BZA to allow the C hook to unload the coils
  7. I bought most of my baa many years ago , mostly the railfreight ones , will be doing 5 BXA , 5 BSA , 4 BZA all with Stenson models etched cradles and at least one with wooden cradles, I may post if I get time , a overview of the recoded BAA to the various configurations of cradles etc..Baz
  8. The other way is to make coils out of thin card , wrapped around a tube and stuck with pritstick , sprayed with humbrol polished steel , banding straps added out of masking tape with a few yellow labels stuck on plus a light rust weathering
  9. Agree, Pendon has lovely scenery etc.. but not much in the sense of operation, etc... Whilst you may find my own layout boring , it to me and many of the audience that have seen it at a few shows I've done have been captivated and stood there for ages and asked many a question about it , some saying it's probably one of the best they have seen. So what is it that makes this layout work well Shepcote Lane tippler sidings is only 5 ft long uses two class 08 and rakes of 5 wagons at a time , the talking point is the Strachen and Henshaw working coal tippler and working wagon traverser at the end , simple but effective , loaded wagons are tipped, run onto the traverser , moved across to the empty's sidings , all coupling / uncoupling is all automated by the use of small magnets, virtually everything is handbuilt and made to the same standard , so the layout has good operation and a uniqueness about it , maybe something other layouts could do with
  10. Depending on what size pipe your doing ,I've used an overflow pipe bend with the pipe flanges made from plasticard discs and bolt detail all weathered with real rust, if using this size of pipe don't use the pipe that is supposed to fit the bend as it will be smaller diameter , instead find a pipe if you can that is the same size as the bends diameter
  11. Hello all , thought these may be of interest , many years ago when i became interested in wagons i started to trace most of the BR wagon pools , these were some of the first, being done at Westbury TOPS office, later on most of my TOPS reports were done at Cardiff Tidal yard. The ones of interest to me are the pools of wagons used on imported coil traffic from Grimsby, as i intend to build Great Coates Junction and Sheffield SPACE (Stainless Packaging and Coil Expansion) sidings which was at the end of Tinsley yard, these are some of the TOPS pools of the wagons used, i will probably do a list of all the wagons / pools that i know of used out of Grimsby sometime soon
  12. Merry Xmas to you all, our Avesta Sheffield project has been on hold for a while now, but hopefully be resurrected soon and rebuilt to a more manageable size, so to keep to the prototype will make approx 5/6 BSA (Ex BAA ) coil wagons . See pic /link below http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/baa/h2ca80536 I have a list of the 24 wagons that were converted but only a few pics , as they were all Loadhaul livery (Orange) and some with what i assume is executive grey ends , so i am trying to make a list of each individual wagon and its livery . List of BSA 900007 900010 orange and grey ends 900015 900017 900023 900024 900025 900026 900032 orange ends 900036 900054 900055 900070 900083 orange ends 900125 900132 900152 900157 900196 orange and grey ends 900209 this wagon was repainted into EWS with a different cradle arrangement 900213 900256 900261 900286 These wagons ran from Immingham to Sheffield with imported stainless coil , so if anyone can add to the list or any other information about these wagons would be much appreciated Regards Baz
  13. Don't know if this is prototypical, but adds interest on the layout, this is a hand built signal with 5 fibre optic strands for the lights, 3 across for stop or 3 up for go , although I've seen a signal at a power station where the 2 outer stop lights are red, so may alter my signal to this design. This is on my Shepcote Lane tippler sidings layout
  14. The flame cut number of 47140 is simple really , find flame cut pics on the net , print until approx the right size , tear around the edges and the torn edges are painted ! with some old tea out of the teapot , just to make them look burnt / rusty.

  16. The scrapyard foreman looks to be eyeing up the flame cut cab side numbers of 47140
  17. you need Modelmasters 4866 the ex Cambrian models transfer sheet, which has a selection of 3 OCA tops codes , i have some spare OCA tops on the sheets i have , if you want them PM me Regards Baz
  18. Not too difficult , just take your time , take off the old handrails, drill small holes where appropriate , the three supporting pieces for the long handrail can be fitted from inside the body by means of small lengths of brass rod , a small amount of super glue or epoxy will hold them, then paint ! Hope that explains it , although I've got 7 class 08 I've only done one so far !
  19. Regarding the handrails , I've replaced all of mine with 0.33 wire , not for those with not a lot of patience !
  20. Wagon label from HUO , probably picked this up from a trip to Barry Dock in the early 1980's.
  21. I have a set of S Kits Schlieren bogies to do a later style Sheerness steel wagon , as for the early version i've used S Kits Gloucester bogies , not sure which type i bought , but close enough ,also looked at the Bachmann TEA tanker for its Gloucester type bogies , if you can pick one up for around £20 ,seems expensive for just the bogies , but no need to buy wheels and bearings and the initial cost of a S Kits bogie and your still, left with a tanker you can re bogie . Hopefully Santa will be bringing some Railtec transfers.
  22. one is more than enough for me to build ! they are very time consuming, although i think Shapeways / Wild Boar Models do a 3D print of these. Will start the other type of Sheerness wagons sometime soon
