  1. Knackered. Been flat out since mid-October, Christmas shut down can't come soon enough.

I know what you mean. At least I can bypass most of the pre-Chrissy bedlam!

RTR chaps - haven’t got the skills to build that.

  3. Whoosh! Sorry, I really should’ve added a smilie to my previous post. The reference to East Anglia is my flimsy excuse for justifying one of these beauties...
  4. Wow! This is extremely tempting, and good on Rails for doing something very left-field. Rule #1 applies I think. I think Rails are wrong with their profile of the fleet, I’d read somewhere that they had been cascaded to work branch lines in East Anglia and had lasted until very early nationalisation...
  5. Just picked up a J69 on evilBay, very pleased.

  7. Thanks Rob - I think I need to look at bringing the fascia forward to eliminate the shadow at the front. Much appreciated.
  8. I already have Dodo and the blue PLA one on-order, but 560 looks delicious. Very tempting...
  9. 10 93's for ROG.

  10. Rob, Late to the party, but good to see you back and enjoying your modelling. Always a treat to tune in now and again and see how your various projects are coming along. What have you used for your lighting if you don’t mind me asking? Your layouts seem to be well lit. I’ve had mixed results with LED strips, although I wonder if it’s down to placement rather than the lighting itself!
  11. Two of my Tortoise point motors have gone kaput at the same time. Any suggestions?

Don't they hibernate at this time of year? Try again in the spring perhaps?

  12. Apologies for not replying to you all, I didn’t think it’d generate such a discussion. A comparison photo between different shades and a photo of the can is on Metr0Land’s thread. I compared my efforts to the post-war teaks I have from the R2981 Olympic set - certainly a lot lighter, but still a fair representation for what I’m after. FWIW the Matt Black is pretty decent too.
  13. I’m glad someone else got some good use out of it and not just me! My results are similar to yours, certainly lighter but a fair representation all the same. It’ll certainly make a good starting point for covering in soot and crud, as I intend to do eventually.
  14. Just voted in the wishlist, so I expect to see everything I voted for available tomorrow for £1 each. That is how this works, right?

Produces the top model for HOW much?

Hattons have them on offer a year later.

£1 is a bit of a fantasy however...

Depends.. if the £ falls that far, they could always create “new £”, just like they did with “new pence”

  15. I’m not sure if it’s a permanent staple of their range, but my local Poundland in Norwich Riverside has car primer aerosols in stock, which I’d not seen before. They have black in both matte and satin, and I tried out their matte grey. Their grey is a good match for roof grey to my eye - I used it to spray the roofs of my Gresley Teaks to represent post-war condition. Can’t go wrong for £1, and it’s almost £6 cheaper per can than the Halfords equivalents!
  16. They must be close now! How close, if you don’t mind me asking, Chris?

That BR one looks super. Are these the same pre-production samples that were doing the rounds previously? The smoke box numbers are still printed on rather than on a plate, and the cab side numbers look quite dark. Won’t stop me from buying one however!
  18. It ruins a detailing project when you accidentally damage the loco. Relatively minor, but I can’t help but notice it. So frustrating

Perhaps the damage could be repaired in such a way that paint and weathering disguise it?

  19. I would love one of the Locomotion GNR Atlantics in BR Black. Not for 280 sheets though. Looks like I’m a bit late to the party on that one!

Hattons have got a GNR one 2nd hand for £197. You could always buy that and repaint it....;)

Locomotion are still selling Green ones for £179, but I wouldn’t trust myself to make a decent fist of respraying one!

  20. Good to see Hornby are doing this, if only to protect the local model shop. Not being commercially minded, I’m not sure how this could/would affect them, bearing in mind they’re in a slightly delicate position financially. It affects me as I have a more limited budget, so I tend to like the look through the bargain bins to buy stuff and there has been plenty of that in the last few years - an example is I’ve not paid for more than £60 each for my Clauds and J15s. However, it will make me think more carefully about what I need and maybe buy less which is no bad thing! I may have missed it, but when is this being brought into effect? Does this affect the next batch of releases, or will it be reflected on the 2019 announcement?
  21. These look lovely and a potential winner for best new unit in this country since the 175’s and 444’s. Can’t wait to sample them!
  22. It appears my previous post in this topic on ‘alternative’ Harry Potter book names was an issue for some. For the avoidance of doubt, it was a Family Guy reference which in reflection was always likely to be miscontrued by some on here. Please accept my apologies for the misunderstanding/any offence caused.
  23. Need to get my mojo back, I’ve done no modelling for 2/3 months now.
