  1. So what you're trying to say in layman's terms....you nearly Bu@@ered up your food !
  2. I'll just leave this here....
  3. Oh ! And if all else fails I could always....well ya know !
  4. (Apologies to James for using your thread on this topic but may be of general interest when building your layout.) I would agree with you John especially if the same mediums are also used rather than chop n'change between various paints i.e. Acrylics to Oil based ( Humbrol etc.). Using a basic palette of muted colours from one source can bring the whole scene into a homogeneous one. G
  5. Mock up of the Week.... Before I tidy the track off the floor I thought it might be an idea to place some of my part built structures beside it to get an impression of what might be coming. The original platform can be adapted ( cut about basically ) to fit once the track is on some baseboards and I think I'll be happy with the proposal for Drewe Tor now. It may be reminiscent of my most favourite layout in 7mm that deservedly keeps winning cups for the Best in Show( you know who you are ) but without that to inspire me it wouldn't have got to this stage in all honesty. Faffing about should now become some sort of reality hopefully. Here are a few iPhone snaps to show what I mean..... I thank you. G
  6. Nothing wrong with that, they can be extremely effective even in 7mm scale.
  7. That's exactly what I wanted to make before the 7mm bug bit me. Lovely detailed scene worth modelling.
  8. I do believe there may be one booked demonstrating weathering techniques at the SWAG 2022 ....
  9. You'll be fine James, the bridge looks good, add a bit of modelling filler and cut the courses in giving it time to set hard. As Hal suggests above the Intentio site gives a good guide done by Steve Fay and his method, but you are best to do a few practice runs as you say to get the hang of painting brickwork, it's worth wasting scraps of material until you're happy. An alternative once you have the overall brick colours applied is to spray with a gloss varnish, let it dry thoroughly and then touch in the brick courses with a diluted mortar colour letting it flow naturally, once applied wipe away any excess. Albeit an old video this may also help as a "general guide" by Humbrol which in essence can be applied to any painting / weathering techniques by most paint manufacturers products. (Apologies if you've seen this before.) G
  10. Unfortunately I contracted it when I was young..........Railwayitus Modelus which I have never been able to shake off !
  11. Even nicer in 7mm and I won't need any excuse to use it on my proposed GWR layout using 'that Rule' we all love and adore ! G
  12. Very quick post. It seems I have enough points* which I've already made plus one kit to complete ( top left of the photograph ). Previous Templot plan printed and laid out on the floor. All very roughly-ish placed with some spare Peco flexi track ( which will provide the rails for new ply sleepers and Exactoscale chairs to match ) on the Templot plan and it appears I won't need to purchase any more to start the Drewe Tor trackwork ..... result ! It obviously pays to have a look and see what you already have and forgot about. Until the next time...... G * Greenwood Model Railways as mentioned elsewhere in previous posts.
  13. Nicely done James. Might be worth applying some filler to the edges and scribe the brick joints for consistency ? Hope you don't mind me saying. G
  14. Bovvered ? Nah...moved on ! (see below ) Working on Drewe Tor as we speak with Mr.Templot at my fingertips..... Here's a screen shot - Approx 4m in length using some pre-built pointwork and a bit of new stuff to 31.5mm Gauge through which I know my stock will run ( tested on previous built laser cut track ). Any plain track will match as previous trial work for consistency thereby making it all homogenous. Happy dayz G p.s. there will NOT be any D/S involved although I have built two previously which work just fine. Oh !..... and before anyone asks why I didn't use one of them on the abandoned project it's because I was using up Mr.Peco's track.
  15. Seems something has reared its head again ? I did wonder after reading a certain post elsewhere whether this would come to the fore ( thank you ) . I would utter to suggest if using this method it is best done at the initial planning stages. Trying to adapt an existing layout can be quite challenging, that said, if you were to consider going down that cobbled street I think if anyone could put their innovative mind to it you would be the ideal person to try, I do genuinely mean that. G
  16. Ahh ! One of my childhood favourites.......be very careful though, they do get stuck in ya teeth ! Keep it up looking very good ! (You know who )
  17. Hi John, Thanks for dropping in and I really appreciate you comments. The problem, which may not be evident in the video is that both loco and wagon wheels are restricted to the extent of acting almost like a vice when passing through. There probably is a simple solution as you say but I'm not inclined to spend any more time on it to be honest, it was purchased at well below the retail price some years ago at an exhibition so no great loss really. That said as I have mention above somewhere it won't figure in any more work as I am using Greenwood Model Railway laser cut kits for any pointwork especially on my main project. They do exactly what it says on the tin, are cheaper than their main competitor and work with the added bonus of having the correctly space timbers. G Moving on to other things.....as I do !
  18. Hi Dave, More than happy to do so, last seen at a meeting in Teignmouth a few weeks ago and good to catch up after a while. Ah ! The River, she's languishing in a siding currently awaiting some more "bits" - Pandemic related delays etc but I'm sure she'll be running when I have the necessary. As for the D Slip it has been withdrawn from any service and I am now concentrating on handbuilt track in the future where I have control over what will work as with the other track. The steed has now got 200 + miles on it and is proving to be really enjoyable, wish I'd got it years ago had one been available, only problem now is that I have a bit of neck strain when passing other bikers due to nodding !!! ( You'll know what I mean ). I hope you'll make the most of every Wednesday from now on once again you know why. ATB matey G
  19. I couldn't possibly comment when we're talking out of ear shot !
  20. Quick answer.... Dunno ! Anything which related to Iain's work was usually during our meeting up when we discussed various ideas etc. I don't possess his Finescale Track book but you may well be right ? G
