  1. Back in Forfar on 9th June, 2011, the steam shed was still intact, having been used latterly as a wholesale food store.
  2. Rather blurry still capture from one of my old super 8 cine films which I discarded years ago. June 5th 1982, Forfar with the last passenger train about to depart for Perth. 40 143 was used for morning and early evening out and back trips, allowing the Forfar folks a last train trip to Perth and those of us joining at Perth an afternoon in Forfar.
  3. Yes indeed. I received the joint Hornby/DPD e-mail notification yesterday that DPD would deliver my Hornby Hobbies parcel today and that I would be notified this morning of a delivery time slot once it had left the depot. I would presume this referred to the Club Terrier as this has now been marked as dispatched on my Hornby account, while my Captain Tom Moore is still showing as on pre-order. Anyway, in the absence of further notification today, I just checked the tracking number on DPD website and it says they are still awaiting the parcel from Hornby.
  4. Same here. The e-mail suggests go to website and choose an alternative method of payment, then the website won't let you change. I had to phone Hornby Customer Service earlier today to sort out my payment. Orders always seem to go through without difficulty, but it seems there is often this problem with pre-orders. Perhaps the authorisation which the bank gives for payment at the moment when you pre-order has expired by the time the item becomes available.
  5. I had occasion to phone Hornby Customer Service this morning following an e-mail from Hornby advising that they were unable to process my payment for the Brighton Works Terrier and giving me ten days to sort otherwise they would cancel my order. All now sorted but while on the call I took the opportunity to ask if I had possibly missed a similar e-mail re Captain Tom. She assured me that my Captain Tom is still pending as a pre-order.
  6. Still waiting on my Captain Tom Moore class 66 from Hornby but meantime this little beauty arrived in the post this morning.
  7. Very true. I spent hours trying to buy one while the limit of the issue was to be 2020. Finally got to the checkout late at night and as I was about to make that final click to commit my pre-order I noticed I was committed to pay £149.98 then realised I had somehow got two in my basket. Tried to go back a page to amend basket and remove one but instead I got wiped off the site. Then the site crashed and I went to bed. Next morning I was gutted to find they were now sold out. Then I read later that day that the issue was being upped to 3,000 and I began trying again and this time achieved the euphoria of finally getting my pre-order in and confirmed. As of this morning my order is still showing on my Hornby account as pre-order. After the debacle with the Duchess of Atholl delivery being short and some being disappointed, can I still have confidence that Hornby will deliver my loco or will I maybe need to turn to eBay? After all the time and effort I spent on the Hornby website and having eventually been able to make my firm commitment to support Hornby's donation to NHS Charities Together, I will DEFINITELY have this loco whether it comes direct from Hornby or needs to be obtained via a third party. It is annoying to see some folks already having two or three to sell on eBay for profit while some of us are still waiting for our single example. Hornby have obvioulsy been caught by unexpected demand on this one and while they were initially allowing a maximum of 5 they later cut it to 2 and indeed when I came to place my pre-order for the club Brighton Works terrier I was pleased to see they are now limiting this to one per customer.
  8. I have one on pre-order. Delighted to see that Hornby are limiting this to one per customer. This should stem the tide of the eBay carpetbaggers.
  9. Me too. The first item I sold, the Hermes guy duly came and collected. Item two and item three, Hermes never showed, despite reminders and getting eBay involved, and I ended up having to drive the parcels to Hermes' nearest collection point. Went back to using Royal Mail, even if it entails queuing and then masking to enter the local post office.
  10. Thankyou for drawing this to our attention. I have blocked your seller.
  11. Her eBay handle is "yourjokingkarenann"
  12. An aptly named seller. I've viewed her stuff on eBay a few times and always thought she's got to be joking with the prices she asks.
  13. Nice to know Les is still trading. I bought my backscenes from him mail order about twenty years ago. The countryside scenes are probably generic but the townscapes were actual buildings in the village of Haslingden which he had photographed. As it was just a short detour off the M6 I took the opportunity to visit the following year while en route from my home in Scotland to holiday in Devon. It was a surreal experience to be able to walk among the buildings from my layout backscene and visit the actual shops! Les made me feel very welcome.
  14. I have the Pete Waterman 46201 Princess Elizabeth from the same era. The body doesn't fix satisfactorily to the chassis, but otherwise no serious problems. It does get run occasionally, and while it is not as smooth a runner as today's Hornby, its performance is acceptable on analogue (HM2000) control.
  15. Some really great pics there folks. Tanfield Railway re-started last Sunday, you need to book a compartment at a price of £30, in advance, but that can be for a party of up to 8. Will just be the wife and myself but all in a good cause to support the railway. On the upside, they are fully booked throughout August which shows that they are receiving a good response from the public. The downside for us though is that we will need to wait till September for our first ride of 2020 on a heritage railway.
  16. How much? £199.95 plus £12 postage! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-R30069-66-7-66731-GBRf-Capt-Tom-Moore-NHS-Limited-EDITION-New-Railway/313179675448?hash=item48eaf69b38:g:2sUAAOSwQRNfMo8-
  17. You are not alone. My payment has not yet been taken either. Ever since others began to post in this thread last Wednesday that their payments had been processed I've been checking my online banking and my e-mails frequently for updates. I just logged on to the Hornby website an hour ago and mine is still showing as "pre-order". Perhaps Hornby have not yet taken delivery of the full 3,500.
  18. Still awaiting my pre-ordered Hornby Captain Tom and already one has resold on eBay for £120 plus £6 postage. Couldn't help but notice that the seller is a D.Cummings and item location is in County Durham, co-incidence probably. In fairness, the seller does indicate that 10% of proceeds of sale goes to NHS Charities. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Hornby-R30069-Class-66-66731-GBRf-Capt-Tom-Moore-NHS-Limited-Edition/303645315164?hash=item46b2abd05c:g:DRQAAOSwja1fLT0V
  19. Yes indeed. I see that my pre-order for Hornby Railfreight 66 514 has now been put back till January 2021 but I have no problem with that.
  20. There's two of them on eBay already and mine is still showing on my Hornby account as on pre-order and payment not yet taken. I anticipate it will take Hornby a few days to process 3,500 orders.
  21. I had one who delayed for several weeks, on a boxed set of three Bachmann wagons. After several invoices and no response I was on the point of opening a non-paying bidder case with eBay. As a last resort I messaged the buyer that as it was obvious he was no longer interested in the items I had decided to keep them. Within minutes the money was in my Paypal account. No explanation or apology. He got the wagons, never left any feedback.
  22. I thought ALL shows were cancelled for the time being, yet I have just seen a post on Facebook from someone who claims to have been at this show today. https://www.tinkerspark.com/home/model-railways-plus/ https://www.southdownnational.com/ "We have established that we have sufficient railway layouts, inside stalls and outside stalls, and buses on the Sunday for the event to take place under the new regime - although there will be fewer than usual in all these categories - and that the layouts and internal stalls will be accommodated in the exhibition hall, where entrance and exit will be separate and a one-way system in place. There will be ample space for visitors between the various items, and all aspects of the show will be subject to a further review, to ensure that we are compliant in all areas. Hand wash sanitation units will be in position around the site."
  23. A lot of his stuff is grossly overpriced but bearing in mind his prices include postage he is sometimes cheapest on eBay for run of the mill Hornby wagons and other items. Also he always provides good quality packaging, very often brand new postpak boxes, and foam pellet filler, all of which will come in handy again when selling on eBay.
  24. I bought a pack of 3 DRS barrier vehicles direct from Accurascale when they were first issued but missed out on a set of 3 with half height containers. I tried to pre-order a DRS Q or R pack from this new batch from Accurascale but already showing "out of stock", then tried to pre-order from C & M. It seems I wasn't quick enough as their home page said they were selling fast, but I was unable to find the item still listed as available for pre-order. Third time lucky, I then successfully placed a pre-order with Rails so hopefully these will be on their way to me from Sheffield soon.
  25. Thanks for the heads up. That's a good deal and I was able to buy one for £22 plus postage. It will be something to run with my Hatton's Warwell!
