  1. My only criticism of Blue's 92220, which is my favourite locomotive by the way, is the lack of painted cab detail. Other than that, it's nigh on flawless.
  2. But with a Kent Coast logo? Unless it was running as a fill-in, I would've thought that KC emblemed stock would've remained somewhere close to the Kent coast. Or is that naivety beyond measure?
  3. Huh? Did Network SouthEast trains run in the SouthWest? At least, without modification? The 31-392 has the Kent Coast logo, which must've caused some confusion in Exeter!
  4. Isn't reverse engineering (on a commercial basis) essentially stealing IP? I realise Chinese companies do it all the time, but that doesn't make it right. Or perhaps everyone does it (on a commercial basis).
  5. TBH, I don't think that your approach runs the risk of duplication, at least not risk to AS. If JoSchmo Ltd announces a Conflat L (yes, @Porcy Mane, that one's for you!), with a lead time of two years, and then AS delivers six months later, you've just got in under the radar! I don't have any particular preference as to when in the cycle an announcement is made, just as long as the lead time isn't measured in millennia.
  6. Or perhaps people are happy to apply the 80:20 rule. In many cases close enough is good enough.
  7. All of which only serves to remind me that I need more bums on seats!
  8. Not really so simples, Graham. It would be helpful to know what "slight improvements" have been made and why. ISTR that there was some discussion of shortcomings in the original release. Were the "slight improvements" made in response to that? And what "slight improvements" were made? I didn't think it was that difficult TBH.
  9. And yet, according to @Graham_Muz So it's not the same as the previous release (set number aside), but it's unclear (to me, at least) although we know what's changed, we don't know how, and why.
  10. Nice, positive post, John. It's just as important to note when things go right as when they go wrong. I only wish I could upvote it.
  11. IMO the J15 is a pretty little engine, and that is what the target market's looking for. Seems like a good choice to me.
  12. POPPY APPEAL

Due to current circumstances, the British Legion poppy appeal is having difficulty this year, as it's not always possible to have the normal stands and personal collections. So keep an eye out (SWMBO ran into one stand at Cobham Services en route to Heathrow), or think of alternative ways to donate. My youngest daughter's school in Dover is selling metal poppy badges, for example.

I got a metal lapel badge when they first issued them, and rather than "buy" another each year, I've always dropped my usual donation into a collecting box in my local supermarket. This year, both the local Tesco and Morrisons had collecting tables so given the circumstances, I doubled up my contribution.

      Wear your poppy with pride!

  13. Like China’s gift to the world, it keeps on giving!
  14. RIP Sir Sean Connery.

He could play anyone, or anything, as long as it had a Scottish accent. American-Irish cop, English King, Russian submariner; you name it, he scottishified it.

  15. According to the infinitely fallible Wackypeedya: ”according to Laira staff reliability was not a problem as many have thought”
  16. Nice one, KMRC! I missed out on Ark Royal in original livery. So I'll now take delivery of Active instead!
  17. The COVID dividend...

...tomorrow night we're putting up a "COVID ISOLATION" notice on the door, just to deter trick/treaters! ^_^

If this weather continues, that’ll be sufficient to deter them

  18. I don't have to be a heretic, since I've ordered the black one.
  19. Hmmm, I'm no economist, and profitability is a good thing, but that profit is less than 10% of 2019's loss. So it's a pretty delicate recovery, to say the least.
  20. My first thought on that is that it would be one cynical way of driving sales away from retailers directly to the manufacturer. But there’s nothing stopping retailers from introducing their own loyalty schemes. I already get 5% from one model retailer, and 7.5% from another for spending far too much. But don’t tell the CFO.
  21. I guess it depends on whether you get a Monday or Friday model, Jenny. I have both Bodiam and SR2644 (non-review models for the nay-sayers), and both are completely unaffected by both bentrunningplategate and wonkychimneygate. I've yet to run them though. Verily, YMMV.
  22. IIRC it primarily (solely?) affects the large headlight versions: There is a fix a couple or so pages back. But you have to possess skills with a soldering iron, and large cojones.
  23. Not wishing to go back over that thread, ISTR that some liveries were more popular than others. Plus plus plus, not all liveries were delivered together. So there’s no reason to believe any more than that.
  24. Or this review: Oh no, sorry, that one doesn't support your contention. My bad! Probably better to wait until you receive yours, run it on your layout, and then make a judgement. Since you have one coming, why jump the gun?
  25. That still doesn’t help the customer if they don’t know where they are in the queue. Quietly thinking they’re good. Either way it’s a crap shoot, and it looks good on neither the retailer nor Hornby. Primarily the latter.
