  1. I once saw a prototype model pushed though a mould that way Although It's been done before, on parts, but painting /printing at the time looked a little translucent when holding up the model to the light..., especially if a light is fitted inside... makes the model look a bit like an X-ray.
  2. I went forwards about 15 images and found the atomic locomotive, powered by Uranium-235 !!!https://www.flickr.com/photos/ausdew/24783531925/in/photostream/ That one would glow in the dark !!! It's easy to see why the Fell diesel was a failure, but it gives a good indication how it could work in OO form using that same gear tower design !!! - that manufacturer / retailer that keeps hinting it should take note !!! https://www.flickr.com/photos/ausdew/24690031231/in/photostream/
  3. And if at the ELR if you rode on BSK 35070, then you were riding on one of the former sealink coaches. In sealink https://goo.gl/images/w4dGOh In blood/custard at Bury https://goo.gl/images/nlRRLQ
  4. Sealink coaches weren't always operated as a block train, they parted and ended up in mix rake sets all over the country. If someone wants an "odd" one in the rake then an SK would be it, if you want the "as initial" rake then the collector club 2 are your start point and you can add 1,2,3 sk's as required. There was a sealink coach at Preston for the longest amount of time, presumably a spare, parked up in the sidings south end, next to the parcels bay/docks line that electrics used to be stabled in.
  5. If you haven't planned your dates yet, first week of July (either side of the 9th) is a pretty exciting time for mainline steam this year, 5 trips current advertised into/out of london that week, also some interesting galas around the 60th anniversary of the end of Southern Steam. Still awaiting which rabbit will pop out of the hat for the 9th July (2 separate steam trips up the LSWR to london on the same day) it was originally meant to be 35018 on one and 35028 on the other. Www.uksteam.info is the site to watch, lists pretty much all mainline steam movements, even if your on the road round the country, you may get a chance to stop for 5 mins to see something coming past at speed, whilst on your travels. Closer to the date It has links to the specific train on realtimetrains.com too, so on the day you can see how the train is doing to time.
  6. They usually are around 500.P&P is free. There's always a risk you can take, on that it may not sell, and that 18mths down the road they may offload them to shops., or one could show up on ebay. If you don't want to join the club, you could always tap up a member into buying one and sorting it with them. I for one enjoy the articles in the mags, membership, the free wagon etc and there's always an option to buy and cash out a limited edition you don't want, to off set the cost of membership, though admittedly the days where a almost every limited edition is guareteed to become an instant sell out and doubles in price seem to be long gone. I am however betting on 1054 as a lined black coal tank as it ran in the 1980's showing up, as well as an LBSC liveried 4-4-2 at some point. To me joining up is worth it, especially if your a modern image modeller, in the last few years they've had: WCRC 37, 20172, Royal Mail MLV, D1733, 08604, Sealink coaches, Exhibition train coach, WCRC pullmans.
  7. Finished a repair, that I started in 1992. My Bachmann jubilee is up and running for the 1st since new

Yep, it fell behind University and 10 years living abroad, getting married, having a child then rediscovering model railways only to find Bachmann completely revamped the Jubilee twice...

  8. I believe Heljan has done it, as did Lima in the past.
  9. http://Bachmann-collectorsclub.co.uk/products/00-scale-products/00-scale-locomotives/class-47-no-d1733-in-xp64-experimental-blue-livery.html £134.95
  10. Putting down a deposit is a best of both worlds.. it's a commitment on both sides. My wife expresses interest in vacations every night, but if the holiday company saw her imagination as a firm sale they'd be broke a long time ago.
  11. Try as I might I'm not seeing it, I'm looking at the model and images of the real thing... Can someone put me out of my misery...
  12. What period were the silver tanks in use, would they overlap with the black B tanks ?, did the silver tanks block work ?

    Dapol 'Western'

I had a look at one of my maroon westerns today and noticed the frame looks like it's bending... I had the body off to check and can't see any explanation, the plastic frame is fitted by its lugs to all points on the metal chassis block, and the block itself looks ok. There's no slack in the fitting. But try as I might I cannot get the body to seat correct on the chassis, leaving a gap. The frame seems to be dropping at both ends, there's no play to "coax" it up either, as I said a very tight fit. When screwing the body back on I noticed the screw centres are no longer fully aligned to the hole either, there slightly off at an angle..about .5mm The gap is obvious at the cab fronts, there's a 0.75mm gap between the body and the front frame fairings when they are flush on others. Any thoughts ?
  14. Just paid Derails Dan for my 2 BR stanier moguls.. Happily waiting now :-)

  15. I wonder if Hornby got their set track point geometry from H&P... I see lots of sharp radius, curved and 3 way points in those pictures :-)
  16. Agreed it's a very under rated model and generally a bargain.
  17. Who buys Airfix locos and Lima coaches these days ? Do modellers still use them, or is it for kids ?
  18. If there's demand enough for an auto coach and inspection saloons, there should be demand enough for big 4 era catering vehicles. People don't run trainloads of autocoaches or inspection saloons.
  19. My blue one is in the box of blue ones, 3rd from the end of the bottom row, next to the text in the box that says "HST class 43 virgin" - was that an Easter egg to another Project, do i get to claim £5 for spotting it ?
  20. I am doing exactly this at the moment, I've done around 100 locos to date and typed them up and at some point will create a thread. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/80959-roco-2014-catalogue-s160-in-h0/?p=2607974
  21. On this thread dealers won't buy Bachmann as it's too expensive, on another thread they won't buy Hornby as it will end up too cheap. Manufacturers just can't win.
  22. The Dapol releases were shipped with two underframes.
  23. Here is some comparison pictures, Dapol, Mainline, Replica and for effect, Hornby. It's my opinion they are some differences... Side elevations (top to bottom is Dapol, Replica,Hornby and Mainline ). Ignoring paint finish (even though the maroons are very similar) First the frames.. Mainline (with its Airfix clipfit) is the same as used by Dapol.. Here's the ck for both mainline and Dapol... The giveaway is under the Dapol chassis... Now the Replica one... This is a partial step up in quality, separate roof vents and separately fitted handrails on the roof (a bit ahead of its time)..but non flush glazing. The body length is longer, indeed its .5mm short of the Hornby one, but 1mm longer over buffers. Note the Replica one, It's stamped Bachmann under neath... (top to bottom is Dapol, Replica, Hornby, Mainline). The ends are distinctly different between Dapol/Airfix and the Replica (Bachmann) & Hornby ones.., note the Replica one has separately fitting handrails on the roof.. To the bogies.. the detailing, mould lines, coupling fitting, fixing pins are the same on the Mainline /Dapol ones, Replicas bogie looks the same as that used under Bachmanns Stanier full brake. Finally here is the Mainline Full brake, next to the Replica SO and the New Porthole... the Porthole has all new bogies, the other two look the same tooling. Interesting although identical the Replica bogie has a "2" on the tooling... If I were to guess the minds of the early 1980's designers... with Kader already having a Stanier full brake and having acquired a BSK and CK from Airfix, adding a Stanier SO/FO (and who knows maybe a 12 wheel dining car ???) wouldn't that complete the rake ? The 12 wheel dining car came out under Dapol but looks distinctly Airfix to me. So what would make the Replica SO a "second".. only in that to me it looks the odd one out, and the Stanier bogie having a "2" on it. With Dapol churning out the BSK/CK and Replica with a batch of odd ones... why would Bachmann retool a new rake, even with an SO in hand ? 30 years later it's Hornby that have made the full rake, ironically with the dining car that looks Airfix. As the maroons across the ranges are similar, I mix and match without any issue, though the Mainline one I tend to put in a mis-matched rake of other styles as the yellow lining isnt the best. hope that helps.
