  1. The model’s appearance would have been properly enhanced by chemically blackened wheels. The jury appears to be still out in the case of the firebox slope. From the images recently posted it’s as expected from months back ,i.e. still there. Out of curiosity I’d like to have a viewing of one “ face to face “ but there is no stockist within reasonable distance. ATM on the evidence here, I’m a tad sceptical. I wish to be convinced but it would be unfair on this thread to comment on upcoming comparisons. Just to say, that I would also like a Dapol example. However……..
  2. Well it certainly appears to have a slope from the above images but it’s difficult to be absolutely certain when taken on a rolling road.
  3. Indeed. Only larger exhibition layouts can handle anything approaching most scale length trains, particularly freight of course. If talking of Class 37 for instance, then a 4 coach passenger might suffice . I think most of us know whether or not it looks right.
  4. I hardly think it falls Into that category.
  5. But that’s not how your post comes across.. Sam’s so called load tests certainly do bother me.The information and specification on the new model is readily available on Bachmann’s website for you to easily access if you are concerned about flywheels etc.
  6. So ok,atm sound 37422 is happily hauling 10x2f ( Bachmann) .That good enough for you ? Be an excellent idea if we all agreed to cease spreading media info.as if it’s tablets of stone. It ain’t folks.
  7. I’ll try a load test in a while but really you have to ask of what significance is that ? ATM I have 6 Bachmann 2f behind one and it’s not in the least bit bothered with that . It would be a good thing if once in a while we’d trust our own judgment and not rely on media “influence “….and here I’m being consciously and tactfully diplomatic..
  8. I had wondered how long it would take for his name to be quoted on this thread. Well….here we are folks. The wait is over.If we all ignore it and go roll on our own carpets maybe it’ll go elsewhere . I wish……..
  9. I can’t provide you with a video but I already operate both new releases successfully on dc analogue using a Gaugemaster Combi. I get start up.idling, running /accelerating ,coasting, the odd squeal etc. I made a conscious decision on the strength of recent experience with their new 47. Worth it ? You bet it is. Adds a new dimension and yes the fan works intermittently…as it is intended to do. Absolutely delighted.
  10. A consignment of these miniature jewels of wagons arrived safely and promptly this afternoon. In quality terminology they are what you would describe as high end and beautifully boxed & packaged too. Detail, printing and below-the running plate gubbins of best HO German/Austrian standard of the likes of LS,Lemke& Hobbytrain. I’m now very much looking forward to my first delivery of Accurascale coaching stock which I’m convinced will match these for quality …..in fact, even the boxes match them……So roll onTPE etc .We’re In for a feast…I know .
  11. Provide it with a properly designed and constructed pantograph for starters….and sound
  12. Lucky you. My garden could be described as portraying Autumn in the Sahara .Some rain simply isn’t enough rain and a magnolia, having already shed its leaves is showing new buds….crazy.
  13. The GCR have today lifted their temporary ban on steam due they say to rainfall in the area over the weekend .And yes it did rain ….but please can we have some more ?
  14. Blue & grey ? In that case I’ve been lucky. 1x TSO 1xFO 1x BSO purchased this evening, postage included for £118. Yes it’s eBay sorry . But there is a shortage of quality coaching stock I must agree .
  15. But for many years this is quite usual in any case. A reason once given me by a tour operator was to provide power for the restaurant car on the train and not traction ! Thus 46233 “towed” 10 WCRC MK 1 + kitchen range 47 from Crewe to Carlisle over Shap & return via S&C …or so I was informed anyway. Be that as it may, these are perilous times for wild fires and if a steam tour causes one,it could be game over for some time.
  16. Well it depends on which incarnation of the loco you’re looking at. Have a look at the 37 Group list for initial D numbering and allocation circa 1963-1966 and you’ll find Canton/Landore allocation among current 37/4.
  17. If you’re paying quite a bit for the standard sound version, you may as well pay a bit more for tints n’ twirls….
  18. But for the strike and the only alternative of a long drive,I’d be at Taddington. But I did have a ride behind 55009 at the GCR yesterday, similarly one legged but at more than 25 mph. Even made a special stop for me on the return leg at Quorn where I’d parked my car . The timetable had been changed apparently.,so the train ( 4MK 1 plus refreshment BG ) wasn’t scheduled to stop. Looked beautiful and sounded in very good health at least on the single Napier. The Napier is to the Deltic as the Merlin is to the Spitfire. She’s on duty again today as the GCR have had to put a ban on steam operation due to lineside fire risk. The cutting at Rothley is well scorched by “something “.
  19. This should be the crucial, crowning detail for any model of an OHL electric and with an effort it can be. Just look at HO scale examples from the likes of Roco or Piko, most of them working examples which match Hornby or even improve on them at price point. Yet we are served up these tacky, plasticky afterthoughts by Hornby with little evidence of serious attempts to make meaningful representation. Of the other two dealers in the market,Heljan’s 86 first attempt was embarrassing and the second recent one an improvement but IMHO with some way to go. Bachmann have at least in many respects shown they take pantographs seriously with their 90. Someone needs to take this area of OO scale modelling much more seriously than is happening at present. I wonder what the advances from Accurascale will bring us . Here’s hoping.
  20. No,fair enough. If the model isn’t to your satisfaction then you’ve every right to complain. But I have to have a little chuckle about ‘back in my day’ …..and I’m certainly no modelling wizard, unlike one member here who stated he’d created one just as good for a fraction of the price. Essentially though,it’s true. “We” had nothing remotely as amazing as this. But I’m so glad we do now. Enjoy.
  21. Inward. No bits dropped or out of place in my 422 or 430 btw. Sound is fantastic…Well I think so anyway.
  22. Sorry but both of Bachmann’s new 37’’s are 37/4 ‘s with plated over headcode with 2x led and thus no 4 character code.So can’t understand where you’re coming from on this.
  23. Attaching a 47/57 to the rear of the Duchess is quite usual in any case,if my two experiences with her over Shap & the S&C are indicators. Have to say, during a Deltic powered jaunt on the GCR yesterday,I had the salutary experience of witnessing a scorched cutting on the approach to Rothley station.which considering there is housing close by is not encouraging. But now to be fair the GCR have temporarily stopped using steam.
  24. Currently on the GCR displaying Cardiff Canton plates and scheduled for a day’s work next Friday
  25. Er….thank you for the little homily. However,it may or not have escaped your attention that there is also a not inconsiderable difference in the basic price of the products of each. Frankly,I should think H should supply without further financial disturbance
