  1. Before the Up siding was looped, it was very long; I suppose the idea was that a whole (goods)train could be backed in out of the way of a faster follower. So was the other point eventually added to facilitate this manoeuvre? Or is that all wrong? I'm not up on the finer points of railway workings! Brian.
  2. Its a pity that the points are never clear as to what goes where. An educated guess usually suffices but you never can be too sure sometimes. Brian.
  3. Nice job, I'm rather fond of extinct GW locos. Brian
  4. You don't see many Countys at Brent considering they were out early in the SW. You must of heard about the one found in 1934 behind the works, the one that was missed by the scrappers. Well, it was in good shape and as GW was short of power that Summer, they got it going and sent it West to replace aging Dukes. After that, nobody knows what happened to it but it may have gone through Brent. But I was referring to the later 4-6-0s! Brian. .
  5. Far be it for me to criticise you guys and your affinity for so many detailing parts; I suppose its because after Dublo I was raised on Rovex, early Airfix and Mainline, etc. I thought these were the cats whisker at the time and must admit I liked all the detail and was content. So how far more can you go in the quest for ever increasing detail and authenticity. Your new carriages look great for sure so perhaps I started too soon. Brian.
  6. Nick, you are indeed fortunate to have found a sympathetic mate! My wife has been very supportive of my hobbies over the years. All you have to do is remember is to mention her hair looks nice today and her dress suits her, every now and again. Brian.
  7. So its no more layouts in the lounge, eh Nick? Brian.
  8. I used Peco track and was happy enough with it. It wasn't up to the standards of what I see here today but it pleased me at the time. Brian.
  9. Nothing like carpet for 'silent running'! On my layout, I used bulletin board, sold under various trade names, on top of ply. This does a creditable job and worth the effort. Brian.
  10. On my old Buckfastleigh OO layout I tried sea sand in places and in places it looked quite good, especially off the branch and in sidings and yards. A bit small for anything else on the branch though. Brian.
  11. Y'all must forgive me gents, but I'm too far away to hear all the latest. That's why a site such as this and its posters are so invaluable. Glad to see then, that traffic is good! Brian.
  12. Ironic to see the modern bus shelter alongside the original building but sadly adequate for todays business. Brian
  13. Why is it our eyes are drawn to perceived imperfections? Couplings in particular are a classic example; they have to be strong enough to accommodate sometimes heavy trains yet be as imperceptible as possible. They have to function for the train set crowd as well as the enthusiast so compromise is necessary. Over the years they have been reduced in size to possibly the minimum usable size. There are others, notably Kadees that fit some criteria and if the UK ever gets rid of the three link, they will come into their own. They are like any small functioning unit, a bit fiddly and certainly not as reliable as the current OO standard. I don't have this problem Nobody cares in tinplate! Brian.
  14. And they thought I was daft going over to tinplate! I can see it all, no problem! Brian.
  15. A four track main line (or what it appears to be) in the vicinity of Brent? Perhaps not, but it sure looks like it! There's scope for a Sonning effect here with fast and slow trains going hither and yon. Brian.
  16. Hi Jamie, the more the merrier and hope to see your pictures soon. The RM Web seems a happy enough site, no interscale criticism, etc. Having been an OO fan in earlier days, I can post on OO threads as well as prototype postings, even interject tinplate pictures at times and no one seems to bother, in fact some have been well received! Brian.
  17. US Galloping Goose as used in the Colorado Rockies. This MTH version is RTR on O gauge track and is of dubious scale but looks and runs OK. Brian.
  18. But heady stuff for us train geeks! Brian
  19. A lot depends on who they are catering to - the casual or train set buyer or the more critical enthusiast. A lot of detail would pass over some heads but still wouldn't be correct for others. Brian.
  20. I thought this was a rail related thread but there hasn't been a pictures of a pretty girl for ages. Perhaps the recent early withdrawal of the last one has been a deterrent! Brian.
  21. Jenny, defending her honour against those naughty boys in Seaton. Brian.
