    Telegraph Poles

This might be of interest.... Published yesterday by GWSG. Several pages on design and installation of telegraph poles. DrDuncan
  3. When were the C15s converted into C16s? DrDuncan
  4. Chris, Mike Trice did some nice looking ones here which might work. I think they will have to be done on 20thou as you suggest or a double layer in 10thou used (a bit like you see on some etched brass coach kits). I’m about to draw up some for my U9/U10 cutting file over the weekend (hopefully) so will share them with you on completion. Regards, Duncan.
  5. Chris, Looking very nice, but I couldn’t spot the door and clerestory ventilators on the cutting sheet. Regards, Duncan
  6. Or as Sellers’ & Yateman’s errata would have it ‘for pheasants read peasants throughout.’ D
  7. So work/life has prevented much physical progress over the last few weeks. I have however been busy CADing a GWR U9 and U10 6w composite. Yes, I know they aren’t BG or convertible stock but they only have a tumblehome at the sides not sides and ends which has made them easier to cut my teeth on. Once finished I’ll move on to convertible 6w stock. Today, I got 45mins in the attic and continuity tested the l/h board track. My soldering was both neat and effective hopefully disproving Chris S’s view that I shouldn’t be allowed near electrics after he spent last Thursday club night repairing the rushed bodged soldering on my portable test track. I think he was wondering just what had happened to ordinary solder! DrDuncan
  8. Dave, As discussed at the club a while ago (sorry not checked this thread for a bit), that sounds like an awesome plan. Duncan
  9. I’ll probably post it here: Or one of the other threads that come up on searching for ‘Inkscape ‘... Or one of JCL’s threads on using a silhouette cutter. Duncan
  10. It was a wonderful show with beautiful layouts. Impossible to choose a favourite over the others. Had some lovely chats with exhibitors who were only too happy to include (and humour) no1 son, Teddy, known to some as Nampara’s junior assistant under platelayer and track tester. The cakes were delicious too! Thanks to Jerry and all who made the day so enjoyable.
  11. Chris, Glad to see the CAD nearly finished! Duncan
  12. Chris, Glad to see the CAD nearly finished! Duncan
  13. Ian, Good grief that’s unbelievable craftsmanship! I’ll never complain about 4mm again! Duncan
  14. Dear all, Manu thanks for the advice and photos - extremely helpful. I’m currently translating it into Inkscape and will post some screenshots in the appropriate fora. Duncan
  15. I too have found Iain’s writings in the model railway press and his monographs both amusing and inspiring. Summoned the nerve to say so to him on two widely separated occasions. He was, on both occasions, extremely kind. It was only on joining the Broad Gauge Society that I realised he had been involved there too (don’t know if he still is) - the man’s output and contribution to our hobby is awe inspiring. (Hero worship now finished, I promise). DrDuncan
  16. New to the thread but very impressive work. Sone hopefully helpful suggestions: Yes the cattle dock works but if you build the ground level up at the rear you won’t need the ramp for access and you can have two pens in the space you currently have one. Turn the goods shed through 180 degrees so that the loading area faces the yard entrance. This will allow the canal siding to be lengthened to be the mileage siding and shorten the siding between the goods shed and cattle dock accordingly. DrDuncan
  17. Dear all, Does anyone have close ups of the bollections and window surrounds for Dean period coaching stock they could share? I’m having problems working out the exact number of laters and overlaps needed for a silhouette style cutting project as the drawing I have is unclear. Regards DrDuncan
  18. A wonderful scenario and concept. Looking forward to seeing it progress. DrDuncan
  19. Dave,

congratulations on getting best in show at Railex.

It was great to chat with you and thanks for your patience while I separated Nampara’s junior assistant under platelayer from his sister’s throat...

Thanks Duncan! It was completely unexpected to win but very nice all the same:-)  Good to see both you and the next generation of modellers!

We got back to Cardiff at 10.30pm, a long but very enjoyable day!
