  1. On the forum today, its been stated they can not disclose pricing structures and will not in the future. Because hiding it away until the users discover it through testing certainly doesnt breed distrust. This whole thing is a mess. Theyre trying to nickel and dime customers for the same level of service and quality. ShapeWAYS certainly doesnt seem long for this world at this rate.
  2. Unsurprisingly Ive had questions skirted around in the forums. They say there will now be two speeds of orders, standard (new) and economy (current). However I wanted to know if their "standard" offering will be comparable to current "normal" and theyll be charging customers more for the same level of service rather than lowering costs in the economy option. No definitive answer from the reply.
  3. Some who do not follow the "Non-railway modelling" thread may not be aware. Recently I had the pleasure of taking a trip to an aerodrome in my home state. I have 998 photos from the event on my Flickr. Their collection mostly contained items from 1900-1930s.
  4. Was the item shipped insured? If it wasnt, Good luck getting any carrier to admit fault and refund money. They love passing the blame to someone else and wiping their hands clean even when its fully clear they are at fault.
  5. Ive had similar from the OTHER direction. I had an auction with a BIN price of $70 US. I got a message from a buyer asking questions and eventually offering $75. I told him to just use the BIN for $70 and keep the 5. Was a rather odd exchange but happy to have cleared that little bit of room from my closet.
  6. IIRC the Midland was NOT afraid of splashing a little cash around to get the best quality of stock. Which explains their early adoption of cast wheels and their extensive buying of old PO stock just to shortly scrap them and get them off their network.
  7. An Eastern Express- Moraine Saulnier A Toko- Pfalz DXII An Emhar- Anatra Anasal DS Eastern Express I think Ive seen some kits of online but never built one. They also had some vac form Pegasus kits on the peg, but at $25 a pop Im not going to try my hand at one. I hate vac formed parts for any purpose. Always a pain to trim and join. I do still have a couple injection Pegasus kits in my stash I have to get around to, but the part fit is dreadful and requires fully scratchbuilt interiors which isnt particularly easy for early aircraft with little to no reference material available online.
  8. The aerodrome was a fun day out. And I got plenty of photos from the WWI airshow portion, however my photos from the museum got deleted when my camera messed up the memory card formatting somehow. So a quick run around the museum in the last 45 minutes of the day was all I got to walk away with. I think Ive missed quite a few photos I wouldve liked to retake, but what can you do? But I did buy 3 1/72nd aircraft kits from the giftshop made by companies Ive never heard of, for fairly cheap as well! Total of about $26USD for 3 kits aint too bad of a find.
  9. To glue paper down, perhaps a spreadable contact cement? Then slowly roll it over with a rubber brush? Or just a thin spread of PVA, roll and compress? Though how to get that carpet look? Could you possibly print onto a shaved down felt material? Just to get that slight flocked appearance?
  10. Well not when its the same running line, which tends to require a constant gauge.
  11. On topic, In goods yards, typically lines where access between was needed were separated with AT LEAST enough space to turn a horse drawn dray around, though if heavier traffic was to be expected you could see quite a bit of empty space. What that turning circle is exactly, I cant exactly remember.
  12. Off Topic, but to attach photos, go to "Reply with Attachments" "Choose File" which should open up your file viewer select a single photo press "attach this file" and if you leave it at that it posts the image at the end of your post. If you instead, during your message press "Insert" or whatever it says as I cant see it now, it inserts it at the end of whatever you have previously typed. It can then easily be cut and pasted to wherever you want the photo to display, or insert photos as you type which is how I typically do it.
  13. Oh you couldnt get me up in the air if you paid me. I love aircraft, but I do not love flying.
  14. Hey there everyone, over this weekend I have plans to visit an aerodrome with a lot of old aircraft and vehicles. If anyone wants specific photos of anything in their collection, just let me know by the weekend. Hopefully I can help someone else out with my photos. Heres a list of their collection, some of which may or may not be there ATM so I will see. https://oldrhinebeck.org/collection-2/
  15. By service, do you mean etching or the actual artwork creation?
  16. Oh dont worry Stephen, Im very much interested in the topic, just have nothing to contribute myself. And as Im dreadful at sewing, my options in G3 are quite limited for wagon sheets.
  17. A funny little story. Back in the mid 2000s, my family took a vacation to London & Bath (From the US) and my grandfather had requested only one thing, a lead figurine of a postman with a dog hanging off his ankle for his O gauge layout. So we took the time to stop by a figurine shop in central London, no luck. Harrods model department?, nothing, anywhere that could possibly have it?, nothing. We were all ready to give up the search, but towards the end of our vacation we decided to stop by a post office somewhere around Bath to send a postcard and while wandering around the lobby, there on the wall was a glass case, with none other than one of that very 'postman with ankle biting dog" figurine sitting there! So I asked the clerk and it turned out they had a few in the back. My grandfather was quite pleased with the story, and the figurine. He has since passed, and while Im trying to pass on his collections to more willing owners, that figurine is something Ill never sell.
  18. Perhaps for the steel cables, you could take some soft electrical wire, strip it of insulation, and twist them together in a pinchuck. It wouldnt be totally slack, but you could shape it to that relaxed look.
  19. Yes this is Gauge 3. While American large scale has universally moved to F scale, I like working in G3 and wanted to maintain compatability between my stock. I also like the historical significance of the scale and allows me to use commercially available components. The boiler is actually 6 major parts, firebox, boiler, smokebox, chimney, steam dome, and sand dome. It all connects via interference fits and positive locating points.
  20. The other day I received the second order of 3D printed parts, which included the boiler. And the steel parts too. So I began where any good loco build does, the tender. Spent apporoximately 6 hours just cutting and bolting the floorboards in place.
  21. The scales available to browse through on the marketplace are NOT as vast as the options available in the product options. They have two systems which dont work well together
  22. Itd be fine to use Shapeways categories if they allowed you to search through all the options that they allow when creating a product. I model in 1/22.5, I upload models for 1/22.5, I categorize them in Model trains-1/22.5, I cant search through the marketplace using those categories. I can only "Search" for 1/22.5 and that doesnt really give meaningful results.
  23. Shapeways search engine is completely broken. Unlike Google or any other search engine, with Shapeways, the more words you put in the MORE results you get. Thus finding anything specific is a pain, if even possible.
  24. Figured something like that. I work on bomb racks yet Ive never really considered it.
