  1. Dont very well understand the logic, but postage from the UK to the US is INCREDIBLY cheap up to a certain weight (something like 1-2KG), however ANY postage from the US to UK is expensive no matter the weight. In the past Ive had hattons ship me yard lengths of flexi for something like 4 pounds but when I went to send a friend in the UK a custom built model (under 1lb) it cost me $20. For small boxes you should be fine ordering from the UK.
  2. Are they available direct from the society? I remember asking a while back but cant remember.
  3. Also the L&Y allocated brakes to specific guards early on, as their name would be painted onto the side along with the home location.
  4. Wonder what happened to the Model Power N scale line. Their steam locos werent that bad.
  5. Id go for a 2 track sector plate. If you get the geometry right, you can line both tracks up, or use one as storage with quick access.
  6. As I have said similarly in the past on this very thread, always amazing when those pesky non ferric materials manage to rust!
  7. I thought you were doing a fine job of the tank, though I agree it would definitely grow tiring with all the tiny bits.
  8. For the motor screws, did you try some 1.4 or 1.6mm Metric bolts? Perhaps something equivalent in the American screw threads?
  9. They call us "partners", oh how Id love to laugh in their faces. Their current changes and attitude towards their primary users makes it seem almost as if they dont WANT people to "SHOP" at Shapeways, but ONLY use it as a 3D printing service.
  10. On the forums, the staff keep spouting how "most customers find products via direct links rather than searching through shapeways" as an excuse to absolutely destroy what basic marketplace there was before. Screw actually fixing the search system or allowing you to search by most of the options available when setting up a product listing...
  11. Its not like your users make your business work or anything! Its like youtube constantly making "improvements" (a fancy new word for completely screwing over the primary creators that make the website interesting and worthwhile.) Also the "DESIGN MAKE SELL" buttons are completely useless for anyone looking to BUY products. The marketplace has now been moved to the BOTTOM of the page under "Services". It appears "DESIGN" functions similar to the forum "Find a designer" function, "MAKE" is just ANOTHER way to upload, and "SELL" is a shortcut to make a store.
  12. Because when you run an online business you never contact your actual users for input on chances before you actually roll them out...Maybe we could call it a "Beta"? Utter incompetence on Shapeways part.
  13. You have such thoughtful postal workers in the UK. Here in the US, Im lucky if the mailman decides to push the package 2 feet closer to my door and under the awning when its raining outside.
  14. Sounds like it was solely a postal error. Besides the half hearted apology, why vow against the seller? Surely they werent at fault.
  15. Hey all, Ive been considering selling most of my coarse scale stuff due to lost interest and space concerns, and was wondering if any of you would be interested in first pick before I slowly stick it all on Ebay or the like. All American stuff mind, but most in good shape, plus a good bit of prewar tinplate stuff. Tried to sell it as bulk to a reseller but they quoted me a price insultingly low, even for resellers. Anyone interested in seeing an inventory list?
  16. Ive hard things like this happening on Ebay where sneaky sellers will cancel a purchase for unspecified reasons and relist at a higher price. Amazon however Im unsure. Perhaps it was a genuine mistake and it wasnt intended to be listed at such a low price. Still no excuse not to honor a contract.
  17. I was recently at a Formula E race in Brooklyn NY where DHL had a booth. Saw that pedal powered delivery van. Amazing piece of tech there. Impressive gearing with complex chain drive and what appeared to be a small electric motor as well. Must be useful in Europe, though I dont see it being of much use here in the US.
  18. Model Power, before they closed up, was often seen as lower end models. Except for their N scale locos IMO, which were actually very nice.
  19. Excuse the grainy photo, mixture of cell phone, darkness, and distance. But a beach concert series every summer in my town, looking out south across the Atlantic.
  20. To start, what scale? Next, what are you interested in. Scenery, puzzle layouts, plain round layouts, real locations. What era? We mostly are helpful here, but you have to give us a little more to work off of.
  21. Buy the track, get a trainset FREE! Plus 2 random pieces of tat Ill throw into the box because I cant get rid of it otherwise!
  22. Shocking theres not more damage to the loco that took quite a nasty fall.
  23. Youll have quite the hard time modelling anything Irish then. If even possible at all without resorting to any kits.
  24. From the US, you can easily get track from Hattons. Extremely cheap postage too I might add. Have no clue how they managed to ship me 4 lengths of flextrack for less than $10 US yet I cant ship a small box the other way for less than $20.
  25. Shame for me as Ive gone on a bit of a G3 American jaunt ATM. I was considering making a G3 D16 at some point after Vol 3 comes out but it doesnt seem Id have the time (or money) even if it came out in the next 6 months. (Ok Ill shut up about Vol 3 now)
