  1. Hornby locomotives are beginning to appear with the age old Bachmann problem of excessive grease and oil on the geartrain, so this might be the source of your 'slidy' surface. During their time in the box during transit, this excess creeps along and through all the body joins and forms a film over the external surface as well. I found a factory weathered J15 recently where this had badly affected the finish, straight out of the box. I suggest using small quantities of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) on a cotton bud to remove the oil - it has worked every time for me, so far! I have seen a vinegar solution mentioned as another way of cleaning before weathering, but have not tried this myself. I prefer the smell of IPA.
  2. That's what you think. What about all those maintenence, repair and modification tasks? :-D
  3. Whichever applicator they used for this, they didn't vacuum up the surplus afterwards! :-D
  4. Stick it to a strip of sellotape, cut out your strips and then remove the tape.
  5. Chris, I have a problem with piles, too. Every project I start increases them - to do, next week, wait for a part, decoder too small/big/wide, etc., etc.
  6. Three simple answers: The lights are on all the time Yes No :-D
  7. Just caught up with this project via a link from the club's website. I think it's a very ambitious plan, but is obviously being very well progressed. This last illustration shows just how convincing a trackplan can be when properly thought out and executed. Once the scenery has been designed and executed to the same standard, you'll have a top-class exhibition layout that will be in great demand.
  8. Access is shown here: https://clarahost.clara.net/www.bromsgrovemodels.co.uk/bachmann44dccinstr.htm The difference is the DCC socket, that's all.
  9. I suggest that you also e-mail DCC Concepts direct. They successfully resolved an issue or, rather, helped me to resolve an issue I had with a SEEP point motor being controlled through a Digitrax system, whereby two channels on the 8-channel ADS8 would not work properly. sales@dccconcepts.com
  10. Howes Models definitely have them in stock. They rang this morning and invited me to collect mine! :-)
  11. Hi Sam, How about trying another method for applying weathering powders to smooth paper? Rather than using hair spray to stick the powder to the surface, you could try spraying the brick paper with Testor's Dullcote, and this will give a rough surface (when dry) that the powder will stick to without any other help. Practice on some scrap paper first, though, to make sure the lacquer won't harm your good work so far. I think you'll find that the powders, when applied this way, will give you a much more subtle effect - just use a soft brush and apply very small amounts at a time. I've only just found this thread and have read through the whole thing! You've made good use of the space available to you, and it's all looking pretty good.
