  1. These coaches only sold because there is NO RTR correctly liveried alternative to purchase, if there had been, it would have been a completely different outcome.... !
  2. I fitted LED lighting to a couple of DCC Dapol/Hornby 56's using my own custom made circuit boards and SMD LED's, I just re-used the lens parts of the originals glued into the nose ends and cut off the rear parts inside flush with the body. More details and some photos on my WB thread HTH Ken http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/120584-the-northern-lights-wb/
  3. At least Heljan held their hands up when they painted a raft of 47's with incorrect BLACK roofs and supplied correctly painted replacement bodies FOC to existing purchasers....well done to them...they accepted they made a boob....and are still in business....
  4. The pick-ups are built into the bogies as supplied. The pin point axles run in cup shaped recesses in the strips. These coaches were originally designed to have interior lighting, but not fitted, possibly due to costs. The bogies and seated interior also come with holes for the wiring and mounting points for lighting boards that were omitted. HTH
  5. Yes I'd have to agree with both posts above, well put and fair comments. As for almost selling out over-night that's probably the main reason they won't ahem correct the livery colours on any re-run...but the question is did they reduce the original production quantity planned due to possible poor sales thanks to all the flack about the colours they and they only believed were correct ?
  6. Most interesting, well IF and when a re-run is done, SURELY they can revise the livery colours and get them correct this time, and if not why not ?
  7. Yes - until it was re-liveried into Dutch, when the nose ends were flushed and square HI headlights were fitted https://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwf2009/5669824378/in/photolist-9D2kfJ-fGjBFN-3PX5Tn-gSwHPY-JX4tYP-7Wo2xL-pXutgu-brRSL1-Xhnya9-dZMXe4-d7nNto-dE2T5m-dRwJnA-aTqfak-YrhKLn-Y5njcv-5sh7Zr-bCZnGG-hi5qUN-agwPSy-86TLxS-azYn13-9bVZC3-21vbLQs-oenNQZ-e1keve-dDRgXr-4NcsSR-amHify-pa1Pio-LkettR-dMCbMt-cev8eu-ksrwnk-mm34Vf-bv7B12-cAz6UQ-29vPM8v-du11Dy-p38isz-o1W7et-UXTvhS-9CYpd4-hnE8R4-9DQAsv-L1RZ9J-29DdqrB-9LYgFj-kwMguZ-LTFB8L
  8. 37 012 was in L/L and named before getting it's ScR headlights............. https://www.flickr.com/photos/dodger5450/26118819715/in/photolist-FN2M8R-rBRRdt-tjFx9d-2W76ri-Ur69hh-CH4Gp8-oDi64G-V5qwuT-a5EUhn-aNTTen-ffbNMP-dn53Wg-c96x5y-CotkJ7-c96wUA-eDM3tY-arw9x5-c96xcu-29CScWq-ygoucm-Xwiqf2-Vh7dzc-9wBHTY-WuecCz-rRJDL1-Tv8V27-XD6pgG-Rg2Wn9-UQ6ZQG-WSoBaU-vY3v5r-LxF5J-tWFx1U-uAnrcw-uQCKZq-ZDZYnS-NZoomV-S5h8gW-2azG1nE-rKRDLU-fEUtyB-29KgaCM-zhuEmG-qrqCjj-K6fcZc-29GhaAJ-a4ZUrR-8pazs5-8fUqAT-Qk4YY3
  9. Interesting choice of livery for L/L 37 012 - Black roof with Yellow cant rail lining - only a few 37/0's received this particular L/L variation at ED depot in 1985.
  10. The spring contacts used by Hornby can sometimes not make proper contact on the chassis. It's worth checking first to see if the Red LED will work by feeding power directly to the spring contacts, using a battery - an AA battery might work, if not use a PP9 but a 1Kohm resistor MUST be used with it, else you will blow any LED that is/was working. The LED's used are small SMD type (surface mounted) possibly 0603 size ? which can be tricky to replace. I'd try asking Hornby if spare light unit assemblies are available, if so, that would be the easier option to repair. HTH
  11. It's unusual for a LED to fail, they normally have a very long life, unless of course it's been shorted out by accident. Is it one of a pair of RED tail lights? a photo of the failed LED would help identify it's type. Once the type is known, it should be fairly easy to find a suitable replacement. Express Models or Squires are two suppliers worth trying www.expressmodels.co.uk www.squirestools.com
  12. Surprisingly, Hatton's have already sold out their ScotRail Exec TSO stock in around 48 hours - now back on pre-order......so they are selling, warts and all..........doubtful these will ever land in the "bargain bin"................ Edit: The TSO's have now been removed from Hatton's site, now no longer available to pre-order........................perhaps only a small batch was produced, following all the colour controversy.....
  13. Or Precision Paints P146 and P147 Ex Light and Dark Grey either option will give a good match.
  14. I'd like to be positive, but that "Black" ? should be Exec Dark Grey, and the Beige is miles off the correct colour, but OX Rail, despite a raft of controversy, doggedly stuck with what they thought were the correct colours, the Blue/White stripes being just a small part of the overall livery. Roddy Angus's photos above, show just how wrong the livery is on these coaches Lima made a better job of it 25+ years ago............... nuff said......
  15. Em don't think they will match but need to get an example to hand to be sure they do have silver window frames but the colours look similar to the previous Swallow versions which was more or less expected....!
  16. Can you ask him to get in touch when he has time, after some more of his excellent L/L number sets TIA Ken
  17. Anyone been in contact with DRD transfers recently ? I'm not getting any response to e-mails, Alex is normally very quick and courteous in replying, aware he has had some PC gremlin issues, but thought he had that all sorted.
  18. Question is will Hornby use the ahem ! correct as per Ox Rail Light Grey on their Exec MK2F's......or their usual horrid mustard yellow shade.....
  19. MK2D/MK2E's from Bachmann anyone ? now that would be a head to head....!!
  20. Indeed, but it's a shame they didn't fit bogies with NEM coupling boxes...................
  21. Assume you have a DCC fitted coach ? no need to use a prog track, all coaches come with a default address of 03 - the main interior lights are controlled on/off via Keys F3 and F4. The 3 position switch under the coach is used in conjunction with F Key's F0 and F1 control the tail lamps - either OFF/flashing/ or constantly ON. HTH
  22. On the some of the early re-paints of the PP stock into ScotRail Exec livery the Exec Light Grey upper band was extended above the orange cantrail line up to the weld line across the roof this included some DBSO's also, this was first used on Exec HST trailers. On later PP re-paints the light grey band was narrower and applied below the orange lining, and not extended onto the roof. AFAIR Lima produced both versions over the years, both being correct depending on timescale. HTH
  23. If it is in fact a Deltic then It's gonna be dead in the water somewhere between here and Ireland....
  24. Sticking powers ! Managed 3 x 20's and that's a long long way short of 33 locos......definitely a need here for an easier solution..............
