  1. Easy way to check if it's drive train noise remove the bogie frames then pull out both centre wheels/axles and then try it, if it now runs quieter then one or both of the centre axles are lower than the outer ones causing the noise.

Ok, I have the Kadee Shuffle working on my Loksound V4 with the sound turned off.

Under Train Controller the train pulls into the station and does a final crawl up to an IR sensor where the train stops.

After a few seconds the kadee shuffle is initiated and the loco pushes back 10mm placing the kadee over the magnet and then forward 15mm leaving the coaches behind. Works perfectly ever time.

Problem is when the sound is switched on. The train pulls up to the IR sensor and stops as usual but then the push back is randomly between 0-7mm so uncoupling is very hit and miss, mostly miss. The pull forward doesn't seem to be effected.

    Have I missed something?

Very interesting. I've also been playing around with this on Bif's Lok V4 WD sound decoders. I  used a lokprogramner to set it up. Initially I added it to F Key 4_via logical options, however the buffer clash option on (F4) requires setting on once the loco is moving, to get the clash sound once it stops, so F4 has to be switched off and then on again to get the coupling sound.

I'm presently using it on F16 for now.

For the shuffle to work it's important not to change the loco direction after it stops (for those wishing to try it)

Settings I find work ok with sound on: (not compared it with sound off)

    Speed 5

    Push time 150 to 175

    Move time 244 to 255

The push/move time setting will vary a little from loco to loco depending on the motors and decoder settings.

Just double checking, the 470uF caps are useless right?

As in, the power they give is so momentary it's carely worth it.

If I wanted a non sound loco to travel a couple of inches, I guess I'd need more power?

Space permitting, I find a 2,200uF cap works well with my Zimo 645R decoders, 470uF not being of much use.

  4. Very impressive....the best representation of model "smoke" I've seen so far especially how it varies with the throttle application. The JG sound file is also good and different, although I prefer Bif's latest WD 37/4 version. I use a JG Class 25 file in a HJ27 very pleased with it, the cold starting on it is also very realistic.

  5. Another 37 completed - originally a GA L/L 37 425 re-worked into 37 420.  Once again EM2 fitted with Bif's WD 37/4  sound file. Note the pose-able opening cab doors - some earlier Bach 37's featured these - although in this case the springs have been removed.  BB pipes/HJ ploughs etc still to be fitted, and possibly batch weathered along with some other locos.

    Hi Tractor,

I hope you don’t mind another enquiry on the car Headlamp style lighting?

i am new to modelling and have been altering a couple of Bachmann 37’s, adding sound and new speakers etc.and looking to add the prototypical car headlamp style lighting.  I have 012 and 114 and was hoping to additionally add the lights to these.

Could you let me know either were you get them or whether you can sell.

    Cheers,

Nice  bit of kit, is that an adaptation of 37142 ?

Yep..reworked 37 142.  262 being a steamer so roof boiler exhaust port and blow off valves added, vertical cab side window orange cantrail strips removed...not present on 262. Nose ends repainted after removing top WR brackets RETB aerials also added.

That’s lovely Ken. There is something quite nice about that plain grey livery, especially when they faded slightly. A lot of folk found it bland but for me it suits the 37 quite well.

Another modelling friend calls it Doomreay ! lol...but I think the plain grey suits the 37...and it's different.....

  9. Latest loco off the WB 37 262 Dounreay in Engineers Grey.

It's fitted with working ScR car spot lights and an EM2 speaker/Bif's WD 37/0 sound file.  Still needs BB detailing and proper snowploughs finished by some weathering.  I have a few EM2 fitted 37's, but for some reason this one sounds even better than any of the others, it really growls/throbs and rattles the baseboard.

Just received a new Bachmann post-TOPS BR blue 37 and must admit, the detailing is superb, obviously and particularly the body.

The A/S 37 have to be something special to obviously top (no pun intended) it - really impressed.

My order is in for a 37 001, so impatiently waiting .... no pressure of course!

I’ve just done a 262 but in 1991/2 condition with the HI headlight as it was when I saw it at Perth.

SNAP -   This one has working car type spotlights/fitted with EM2 speaker/Bif's WD 37/0 sound file, for some reason it's now the best sounding EM2 fitted 37 I have, it's "alive" and really growls/throbs and rattles the baseboard - loving it !

    Hello All,

I wonder if someone can help me.

I recently brought a Loksound V5 with Bif 37/0WD Sounds on it for my Bachmann 37/0, this being the latest model with sound pre fitted. I removed the original Loksound Select and Speaker and replaced them with the V5 and a Rail Exclusive Boom Box Speaker. After fitting, i tested the fitting with the body off to make sure all was good before battening down the hatches on the model to enjoy. All started off well with horns playing, RETB transmissions and the like. Then i though i'd test out the Wheelslip feature. All started off well but then the decoder suddenly became unresponsive to the controller and was emitting a loud, high pitched buzz from the speaker, that i feel can only be best described as sounding like an AWS Horn. In shock, i immediately took the loco off the track to clear the fault and tried putting it back on. Once back on, all seemed to be reset and tried again, after about a minute, just after starting to test the drive sounds again, same fault. I tried this several more times to check if it was a recurring issue and it seems to be, although direction of travel seems to be no particular factor and the fault would occur at random times (i.e. not after the same amound of usage each time, sometimes more, sometimes less.)

After no avail on the actual layout, i have brought it onto my Lokprogrammer and have been running it for about 20mins with no issue as i type, trying various speeds, directions and other sound functions trying to recreate the fault to no avail.

The controller that i use on my layout is the Lenz Set 101

Am i the only one whose experienced this on a V5, am i missing something stupidly obvious or is this a known issue?

Attached is a video link that i have uploaded to YT that actually shows the fault in progress:

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Jack

    Hi Jack

Lenz Set 101 ? Although it has many good new features, I find it awkward to access max SS for the "wheel slip" feature, due to having to turn the speed dial round and round "numerous" times to finally get up to SS128, far easier using the the large SS buttons on an earlier Lenz 100, or even easier using a Roco Multimaus.

Do you find this an issue ? or have I perhaps missed something with the new 101 throttle ?

Your 37 sounds good with that Boom box speaker,

    TIA

    Ken

The missing handrail can be sorted easily, the lamp bracket if bent can drop off, a replacement corridor connection can be supplied as a replacemant if you wish.  The spot of glue on the body shell normally comes off with your finger nail.

    Hope this helps.    Charlie

Yes the glue blobs on the roof did indeed come off using a thumb nail leaving no damage to the paint ( obviously not CA adhesive as I first thought) As I found the lamp iron I'll attempt to fix it back on, but I'll look out for a replacement handrail arriving in due course.

    Thanks for the help

    Ken
