  1. Hattons are presumably making these coaches as they see sufficient demand to make money on them (and the enthusiasm for the coaches from most on this thread backs that up) I don't see a market for a generic loco (so why would Hattons make one) but perhaps other iconic pre-grouping locos might now be produced?
  2. I wouldn't be so sure about that When Dapol introduced its O gauge 6 wheel milk tanker it was similarly generic. That didn't stop some on this forum from getting very worked up about the position of rivets, small details and other aspects of the model
  3. I agree with others who have probably put it far more eloquently - I would prefer a fictional coach which has the character of the age but which does not have features that are typical of one railway company, rather than a correct coach in an incorrect livery. A Met coach with round door tops in LMS livery would jar far more to me than the coaches Hattons are showing in LMS livery
  4. No, the main stumbling block for me is time. I do 2 jobs and have a family. What little modelling time I have I like to devote to building things I enjoy (and playing trains!). I have tried painting and lining coaches before, didn't enjoy it, and they looked awful. It seems you are suggesting that rather than buy the Hattons coaches (which I will), I should be compelled to carry on unhappily wasting time (& money) learning a skill I don't want? The time is better spent happily refining and using the skills I do have
  5. Brilliant idea, i'll definitely be ordering some I'm sure there will be plenty of modelers like myself who will be happy to accept the necessary compromises to be able to buy reasonably realistic ready to run 4 & 6 wheel coaches. I just don't have the talent to paint and line coaches, or the time to learn
  6. I think rather than repeatedly giving Cavalex stick you should perhaps look at your own spending habits Instead of stomping up and down that you want something NOW when you get some money, perhaps you could consider another approach Every manufacturer makes models in finite batches and if you will really want a model you need to pre-order. Perhaps you could consider doing more pre-orders and when you do get additional disposable income, save it to pay for the pre-orders? That is what I do, and every other modeler I know
  7. Interesting to see they have also announced a couple of extension packs. Hope it succeeds https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/family-fun-project-extension-pack-1.html https://www.Hornby.com/uk-en/family-fun-project-extension-pack-2.html
  8. No connection but I pass the signs for this each morning and can't see it mentioned here Exhibition this Saturday 28th September Cottesloe School in Wing Near Leighton Buzzard. It's signposted from the A4146 Leighton Buzzard bypass More details on their website http://www.tdmrc.co.uk/TaD-Rail2019.html
  9. I am interested in updates but happy to wait until Kernow have something to say. I would hazard a guess that Kernow have finite resources and have to use them how they think best. Considering how many models Kernow have produced themselves over the last few years, and commissioned from Bachmann etc, not to mention opening a second shop, I think they should be congratulated for their contribution to the hobby rather than criticized?
  10. The cast & fabricated bogies refers the the prototypes which were initially fitted with fabricated bogies but due to cracking they were replaced with cast ones
  11. A bit like KR models who have commissioned the CADs then ? Naively, I always thought the design process started by selecting an exact prototype based on where it was used and for how long etc so that its desirability can be estimated
  12. Ebay are offering 10% off purchases made through its App until Midnight tomorrow, the 11 Sept Use code PLAYAPP at checkout
  13. In Siem Reap last month. Don’t think all the options on this menu were entirely appropriate?
  14. The programs last series were available on my5 catchup seconds after the program began to broadcast. They had the advantage that they showed few adverts. I think there were 3 ad breaks during the program and there were less ad's during each break with only one during the last break. It meant I finished watching the final program on catchup 5 minutes before the live program finished!
  15. The blurb in Model Rail mag states the wagons are based on MODA 95770 & 95771 if that helps identify them?
  16. That is the DCC version which is £125 +VAT so £150. The basic version including VAT is £80 + p&p Never thought I would be defending KR Models but it seems wrong to imply the models are expensive but to only quote the price of the more expensive dcc version? http://www.krmodels.co.uk/iqa-nuclear-flask-wagon.html
  17. Not sure where £125 comes from. It’s £80 + p &p on the website and in the advert in the new Model Rail mag (£150 + p&p for dcc)
  18. We have an Aristocraft Basic Train Engineer controller with works in the way described. Available quite cheaply, I think we paid approx £20 for ours. They are no longer made but can still be picked up quite easily Included with some of their train sets (and sometimes available split from sets on ebay) they are designed for use in the garden, it's a DC controller which is controlled by a hand held remote control. We only run one train at a time anyway & it means the trains can be controller from anywhere in the garden
  19. A single list of every model shop with opening times would be useful, perhaps with details of current address and closures The problem is it would only be useful if completely up to date and that would be virtually a full time job Most model shops now have some web presence with opening times and if I was going out my way to visit somewhere it's easy enough to just pick up the phone
  20. There are a couple of announcements on their website https://www.minervamodelrailways.co.uk/news/97xx-pannier-and-requested-plain-black-manning-wardle/
  21. Bare in mind that the current selling price for the Heljan L&B locos is over £200 now, 4 of the 6 types in stock at Hattons are £209.95 (although some are seen at reduced prices sometimes) https://www.hattons.co.uk/272027/heljan_9954_lynton_barnstaple_2_6_2t_e759_yeo_in_southern_railway_livery/stockdetail.aspx In 3 years time I would not be surprised to see the Fairlies sold for well above £200
  22. That’s a strange quote from Kato considering they make the Swiss RhB models as n gauge standard gauge, whereas they should be narrow gauge
  23. I hope this link works, the page shows the full price of £130 as the bottom of the Description https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:5_z8XWEM8_UJ:https://djmodels.co.uk/product/class-92-electric-locomotive+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk
  24. Is it the ‘Cliffhanger’ layout you’re thinking off? I seem to recall that having a very stylish chrome coloured DMU?
