  1. Count me in Gordon! I've two of these in thr stash. While it's hot and sunny in blighty, I've mad enough thr most of the wet weather here - two wet to work on the landy, but perfect for modelling. Updates to follow...
  2. Seems like I have opened a can of worms! Thank you for the info on the various BB - I suspected they varied a little between brands. I have one of the usual L shaped ones but not really suitable for assembling the Exactoscale wheels, plus it seems to always result in wonky wheels (could be user error admittedly). I'll look at getting one or two machined up here given their scarcity if none turn up. J
  3. It does look like a good sized chunk of metal! Would anyone be able to measure the width with a caliper/micrometer and I could possible look at getting one machined up here? Could be a easier solution..?
  4. Thanks for the reply - yup that looks like the one - I have seen versions with the two holes. I was looking for one to be able to build a jig for putting the Exactoscale wagon wheels together. If you see one, or want to let it go Hayfields, I'd be more than happy to purchase. I haven't seen a GW adjustable one yet. Bit difficult getting his stuff in Aus - I was successful getting one via a trader whom I bought some wagon kits of at last years scaleforum. Cheers James
  5. Hello All, Looking for a Exactoscale P4 Back to Back Gauge - one that looks like this Cheers James
  6. Excellent news, guess I can put the Lima and Bachmann bodies back in the stash From the IRS handbook it looks like in addition to the NCB loco offered, the following locos mentioned on the initial list also ended up in Industrial service C.11 12052 - NCBOE Widdington coal disposal point 12049 - Day and Sons (London) C.12 15224 - Kent coalfields
  7. Thank you very much for all your replies. I will bear in in mind and do as suggested printout and and do some test alignments etc. im new to this, so learning, not knowing much about the intricacies of trackwork/permenent way. Any hints, tips and advice are welcome. will keep plugging away and post up for critical analysis as I got. thanks again James
  8. Hopefully not too late to the party, just seen this. sent you a email Gordon. James
  9. As far as I understand the tippler rotated around the axis of the coupler. With a rotatory coupler on every other end, the whole wagon can be tippled without having to uncouple each wagon.
  10. Thanks for the replies. I guess I wasn't asking what was the min I could make, but rather have I interpreted the term 'min radius' correctly and correctly applied the term to my design/layout. Sorry if I was not that clear before. I am sure that I will have some more questions as I progress. J
  11. Another question that had me thinking - is there a way to calculate minimum radius from wheelbase length?
  12. Yes I was - nothing seems to tight based on what I have laid out. So I have not quite understood minimum radius then? Here is a picture: When I drew up the original plan I had the image exactly under the track, but I am am just learning and must not have saved it. Layout is 740mm x 245mm so more a working diorama. I have been working/making sense of the industrial turnout data - comparing it to prototype and laying it out to check I was not too astray with my measurements. Obviously I need to do a little more work/struggling with getting some alignments correct. All the turnouts above are based on the non-prototype (and are not less than 550mm radius) - but then adjusted based on the industrial pointwork on the templot website/manufacture specs. The largest wagon there is a Accurascale HOU the rest 1/108 16t 9f wagons.
  13. Good day all, A couple of questions on minimum radius and wheelbase length. Modelling a small industrial layout in P4. Largest loco has a 11ft wheelbase (Austerity and YE Janus) and the real thing has a minimum radius of 120ft (from manufactures brochure). If I scale this down to 4mm/1ft this equates to 480mm/18.89" - is that correct? A 10ft and 9ft wheelbase wagon are less than this, thus should traverse such a radius OK? And should be a doddle for the shortest wheelbase loco, a mere 6ft, so a minimum real radius of 60ft and 240mm/9.5" at 4mm/ft scale. Turning now to track planning and templot settings - when setting/building my custom turnouts I should set my minimum turnout and curve warnings to the radius of my longest vehicle (420mm)? If that makes sense? Thankyou in advance James
  14. Thanks for the update Robert. I notice the buckeye coupling pockets in stock and on your website - top notch. Order on its way. How are the test etches for the dump cars progressing? Last shots looked very promising J
  15. Looking for a complete Modelzone NCB wagon pack as produced by Bachmann 37-225W is the pack ID image from Hattons Website
  16. Nice Adam, Going to to be a faded kind green? i Got the 1 step forward two back feeing too! J
  17. Thanks Mike, I have a couple of gearbox options. Will have a play. Progress a little slow of late, bought a new jig so having a play and acquired a second ‘59 landy which has chewed up some time.
  18. Ironstone Wagon looking the goods Robert!
  19. Yes, when helping Mike with the chassis it was apparent you would need to trim the chassis a little to use the Oxf Rail holes, I haven't cut them out yet, just offered it up dry. This weekend should be a running chassis and loco. I think one settled on a loadhauler compact It looks like it should clear all the spacers and just enough space for a flywheel. Otherwise a 14mm drive stretcher may be required (or a smaller flywheel) Regarding the Mashima Mike - I haven't tried the square motors yet. So if the moto (e.g Mitsumi) is slower revving a lower range box can be used to use the torques? James Ps - its a awesome help having the scale drawings - takes a lot of the guess work away!
  20. Just so you know not all is lost Paul here are my Juno nameplates. I have a NB body to mesh with a RT chassis. Should be just the the real thing
  21. G/day Gordon, Might be able to help you out there as I have a couple of geabox and motors in stock. I was gonna do one withe a cheapy Mistumi and the other a Mishima 12*20 both through High Level Gearboxes. The Mistumi that I have is very similar in dimension to the Mashima They both fit within the Oxford Rail Body - the Mitsumi is ever so slightly wider than than the Mashima - not sure how hot they get - there is just a air gap but not much (maybe save this one for the Judith Edge Kit?) A open frame Mashima 10*24 also fits nicely - sorry I forgot to snap this Now to to gearboxes - I have a couple of High Level 'Load Haulers' - one is a compact and the other a a '+' version with a drive stretcher. I think they are both 80:1 - but I will have to check. The frames are nice and deep, and so is the buffer beam so the motor can be kept kinda low I was trying to keep the motor out of the cab (So I could add an interior) and my thoughts at this stage are about powering one of axles at either the #1 or #2 end like thus: you could also drive the middle axle and have the motor pointing the other way Other options I was thinking about - slightly simpler using the good 'ol 60:1 box driving the #1 or 2 axle with the motor vertical - even space for a fly wheel I'm not sold on either one just yet. I am thinking perhaps a 80:1 mircomiser in the vertical position might be the best option?
  22. Not much has happened this last couple of weeks - getting back into work and waiting on a few supplies to arrive from the motherland. I had contemplated tackling the brake gear one evening. Got a long weekend coming up, so some modelling time has been booked in for then so expect and update Sunday/Monday
  23. Part two is now out. Some photos I haven't seen before - particularly of Juno looking like its on its last legs. J
  24. Hi Dave, Had a little play, here is a very rough sketch - not sure what program you used. Sort of nominally 1 foot ish markers I can send you a pm with some photos from the book James
  25. If you want a little wagon works inspiration in a tight setting check out the one on the Harton Railway. I'll see if I can track down any public domain photos.
