  1. Thanks David. I was thinking of massacring a couple of sets of Exactoscale wagons wheels. This might sound like a dumb question, but if going down the Ultrascale route, I just need to measure the overall diameter and width of the rim. No funky math to make sure its a interference fit or anything? J
  2. This looks good! I have set of your Manning Wardle wheels - what rims should I be using for them? J
  3. Nice pictures! Is that the Laboratory car running behind the power car? the one with the raised red strip ? Or is it suffering tilt failure ?
  4. G'Day All, Rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd resurrect this one - would anybody be able to confirm what Mk2/Mk2z coaches that Bachmann produced and what their part numbers where? Try to track down an couple and not sure exactly if the ones I have found are being advertised correctly or not. Secondly where any of the 'specials' that Bachmann produced for the likes of Modelzone suitable for the early Mk2 stock? Thanks in advance James
  5. Thanks you for all the replies. I' was interested in just the loco hauled stock, so the book sounds perfect. I'll keep my eye out for both the 1982 and 1991 version and see what comes up. I've ordered a HMRS supplement in the meantime. From the above discussion, it seems that the 'missing' parts refers to the MK1 based EMU stock? Are there any other things one should be wary/new information that isn't contained within either volume with regards MK1 loco hauled stock? Thanks once again James Perth, WA
  6. G’Day All, I’ve been looking at purchasing a copy of this book +/- supplement, however I’m little lost when it comes to the correct version/latest version. -1982 -1991 - advertised at revised -1999 reprint (presumable of the 1991 edition) -2006 edition - updated, (but not appendices?) -supplement would someone be able to help with which copy/copies I should be looking to purchase? I have browsed a few threads on here and they seem to suggest the 1991 + supplement? Thanks in advance cheers James
  7. There is nothing stopping you from taking the DJH kit, which is of the Diesel Hydraulic (DH) version and using it to represent a DH version in industrial service. However there are a few differences between the DH and Diesel Electric (DE) version, of which the DE version appears to be the more common type used in industry. The main difference between the DH and DE version are (other than transmission and Hp) : Length 22'6" vs 22'2.5" DH has a longer bonnet compared to the DE version Different body side grilles, grab handles between DH and DE DE have fuel tanks built along the length of the body side vs around the cab on the DH version. The Flickr link has some good brochures that show the differences. It is entirely possible to modify a DJH 02 to look like its DE cousin, a few on here have been quite successful in doing so. J
  8. Given the demise of Hollywood Foundry (through retirement), I’d say there is a market for motor bogies, or drive stretchers of appropriate length. Some sort of compensation would be a bonus too.
  9. Hey Martin, This are a little bit old and some a little out of date but the basic concepts are there. White* - etch all the way through Black* - solid full etch Blue/Cyan - Half etch rear Red - Half etch front * depends on the etcher - best to check The PPD in the UK have some really good guides (attached). I do have a question of my own - do etchers want it still split into layers (i.e. back and a front) or just a single flat image? Introduction To Metal Etching.pdf Metal Etching Principles and Rules.pdf Etch Drawing Preparation.pdf 2019-Drawing-Dimensions-Tags-1.pdf 2019-ARTWORK-GUIDE-1.pdf 2019-Metal-Thickness-Selection-Guide-V1.pdf
  10. Thanks for the update guys. I'll shoot Tim an email. I'll check back in around the New Year. James
  11. Thanks, I'll do just that. James
  12. Hi Tim, Any update on when the website will be up an running again? Also, I know that you cant ship plywood to Australia, but there are no restrictions on MDF (I can send the link if you like?) due to the processes used in manufacture. Would you consider in the future MDF products? Cheers James
  13. Thanks for the reply TurboSnail, Will follow with Interest. The one I was after was MW1795 No14. https://www.flickr.com/photos/train-pix/5571163392 Understand that it is a bit of a special (tank looks a little deeper) but if you had the drawings I would snap one up! Cheers James
  14. G'Day Turbosnail, This looks like is based on a Manning Wardle H Type? Is this dimensional accurate to the H type or was it stretched/shortened to fit on the Hornby Chassis? Cheers James
  15. Many thanks for sharing those photos of Ainsdale and Steamport. grew up about 400m from Ainsdale station in the mid 90s and have fond memories of being allowed a go driving one of the small steam locos and signalling trains (under supervision) in the signal box at steam port
  16. Can I grab one too please Mike to send to Perth, Australia. cheers James
  17. The radio control is very clever. Do you have a list of parts that you used, or a link to another post/blog that describes what you have been using? Cheers James PS - love the kit/model bashing
  18. Wanted 00/4mm scale - 14" Andrew Barclay kits. Complete, unbuilt or partially started kits. Preferably one with the early type cab. I am missing many pieces from mine and was hoping to be able to combine two to make at least one If you have one or both , drop me a PM Cheers James
  19. Thanks for the heads up Mark, will shoot them a email J
  20. G'Day All, Wondering if anyone has access to a English Electric sales brochure that outlines the Stephenson type 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 shunting locos? Was after a scan or a copy. Attached is an article that outlines the brochure I was after a copy off Cheers James EE_Stephenson_Shunter_Article.pdf
  21. That is exactly what I wanted to do. I will salvage the DCC board when building replacement chassis to put into kitbuild/or upgrade locos (I'm sure there are some threads on this, will have a look) to keep compatibility if/when I go DCC. Thanks for all the replies. Based on the feedback I should be able to build a little test plank - I'll see if I have the space to build a little S curve. Either the Bachmann one (nice discount at Rails) or the gauge master. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any discounted trainsets over here or split controllers. James
  22. Ahhh...good news. The first loco kit I ever got was a Q-Kits PWM. Is there any way to register interest yet?
  23. Thanks for the update Hayfield. Are these updates to an original product or new style of 3 bolt chair? Cheers James
