  1. When I swapped the decoder, the one already in it was a Bachmann changed that to a Lais dcc chip. Having just looked up the manual for it, it says it can be reset by changing CV8 to 2. I'll give this a go and check the setting for DC when next in the loft.
  2. None of the photo's are being displayed on the improved web page for the standard 2.
  3. I have a Bachmann 2-car emu that does similar, takes off like a cat with it's a**e on fire every time power is applied. I've changed the decoder but still does it, so will be interested in the responses to your problem.

Another one from our friends at RocketRailways. Not so much 'madness' just magical buffers! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OO-Gauge-Hornby-BR-Black-0-6-0-Bodyshell/114677273933?hash=item1ab34c554d:g:LWYAAOSwhkFgJB-R
  5. I thought it was him, crafty bu**er having 2 jobs! The timber planked inside of the Hymek is interesting.

It does say ' Points' one has a small amount of ballast still stuck to it, the other hasn't
  8. Typed 'Hornby' into the search bar and selected ' All categories' seemed to show a lot more.

  11. My first job was at Waterloo with the CM&EE ( ODM ) about 1979. As a shop lad, one job I had carrying the tool bag, was with the Boiler Inspectors down to Woking PAD. At that time Woking had 3 cranes, 2 diesel and 1 steam, I couldn't tell you what type they were but as a sixteen year old working on the Big Railway it was my best day out ever! Whilst there, I noticed the odd plume of smoke coming up from the ground, on asking what it was causing it, I was told the ground deep underneath was burning as the depot had been built up on ash from steam depots. About an hour or 2 into the job the local fire brigade turned up and started hosing parts of the yard down. Which they did every few months.
  12. Seems to be some interesting stuff going on at Margate.

Can't believe somebody has bid on it!
  14. I'm wondering if the workmen in that video, later swapped their hardhats for Stetsons and rode off into the sunset after that dogs dinner of a job.
  15. I did that last night, hoping in some small way to help out. After watching 'This is York' twice and rolling through loads of photo's, I realised it was midnight and I'd been looking for over 2 hours!
  16. I had made an attempt at taking it apart at the beginning but all that happened was one of the fixing lugs broke off. Yes, most of these alterations would be nice but at the risk of me knackering the body I'll probably just do a few mods instead. If I file the window frames flat and file the top section up towards the roof, making it slightly thinner, I could then possibly plant a pre-cut/shaped piece on the cab side. Thus blocking out the extra window and this will have the curves needed. Glazed windows, maybe. All this is meant to be, for me anyway, is a learning, practice and confidence building project. I do appreciate the help, advise and suggestions given, I'd never have thought of giving this a go without the support this site and members offer.
  17. Hi plasticbasher. So far the suggestion of using pva glue on some parts ( the in fill's where the splashers were ) has worked quite well. The space left will be filled in with some Milliput and hopefully leave a smooth surface. I'm picking up some super glue gel sometime tomorrow, I find the other type a bit too watery, so hoping to fit the safety valves and chimney using that. The coal rails, I've just cut 2 rails off the top leaving 3 below. Might try and add a very thin strip of plasticard on the top of that to keep the flared look. Stuck on what to do on the cab sides. I know there shouldn't be that extra side opening and the tops are curved and the yellow painted frames are raised. Not sure how far to go into detailing with this project being my first attempt. Having looked at photo's and seen the rivets on the tank's, I think my head would explode at that point!

''very good, except some damage on one'' Your mission Jim, should you decide to accept it, is to work out which ONE out of the 3. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Three-Hornby-OO-gauge-locos-unboxed-Mar/264954634478?hash=item3db086e0ee:g:SCwAAOSwBGJfvPtF
  19. I'd thought about going that route but as the engine was free, if I made a dogs dinner of it, it wouldn't have cost anything.
  20. Don't know if this is of any help/interest, another Smith's looks possibly under the footbridge. Must have been quite a busy box to work. https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-england-yorkshire-york-york-station-wh-smith-shop-147269769.html
