  7. Thanks for the Harwich branch photo's, brings back some great memories.
  8. Sorry , Karhedron. Looks more like the side of Feltham shed with the windows blocked out. Windows here - End of building and chimney here - https://thetransportlibrary.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=128923
  9. You can get change over reed's , whether or not they would be suitable, I don't know. Example here- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-pcs-3-pin-glass-reed-relay-magnetic-switches/173211459577?epid=22037967186&hash=item2854351ff9:g:LUEAAOSw~8leSDwE
  10. I think one of those might have been the Thursday working from Acton Yard to Norwood Junction.
  11. Couple of photo's here. Working over the SR at Clapham Junc. https://sremg.org.uk/diesel/dbt.shtml
  12. Found this if it's any good. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawlish_railway_station#/media/File:Dawlish_Signal_Box_(Disused),_13-5-87._-_geograph.org.uk_-_1710632.jpg
  13. It's a very 'straight lined ' diagram of all the TPO workings in 1958. If you look at some of the stations, your see which one's terminated and which continued thro' . For example, the Midland TPO departs Newcastle - York - Sheffield - Derby - Tamworth - Birmingham - Gloucester - ( terminates at ) Bristol. The little circles with a number inside it, has either a 'Hook' or 'Arm' or both indicating pick-up or drop off points on route. It includes some of the names, the Up/Down Special ( Night Mail fame ), Great Western TPO, East Anglian TPO.
  14. 3rd picture down is of a Treadle. Electrically locking the points to stop a side swipe if anything were to head down the road on the left and possibly to indicate a loco etc standing at that position on the end of the platform.
  15. Just at the end of those sidings was the S&T training school iirc
  16. Started there at 16, so about '78 then moved over to the ODM at Victoria. ( left a longer reply on your 'Board' )
  17. Come in from the Waterloo Bridge road and walk right down, passed the big green doors into the W&C line depot, along from that was the BRS repair shop, next to that was the ODM workshop being on the left, over in the corner was the BR stores ( Drivers bags, cleaning gear etc )

Then round the corner under the telephone exchange was our other workshop that repaired battery platform sweepers and the BRUTE tugs.

The 'other bit' by the Armstrong was the lighting department, next to that was the 'Plans arch' and the 'Lamp arch' which repaired the tail lamps.

      Nearholmer

      Got it now, thanks.

IIRC, in the ODM arch there was a store on a built-up mezzanine, and a sort of tunnel, up in the ceiling where conduit and tray-work was kept.

I've been racking my brain trying to remember who the guy in charge was, but its probably a good job I can't, because I recall that he was a bit of a drinker (half bottle in his jacket pocket), and he was rumoured to have "a fancy woman" who lived at Feltham(?).

The depot was was famous for fiddles then, petrol on the company charge card, booking jobs that didn't exist, some heavy sessions in the Alex and another pub near Durnsford Road etc etc.

Most of what I learned there was "the school of hard knocks", rather than engineering, although some of the guys really knew their stuff and took the trouble to explain it.

      Mixed memories!

You never know, we might even have met at some stage,

      All the best, Kevin

The boss was Inspector J Constable ( yes, really. )

Think I only used the BRSA club at the time.

Lot's of those going on, including one of the older fitters being in the staff club, when the gas pump for the point heaters failed and shut platforms 1-6 when they froze up!

Ahh, happy memories. Thanks for sharing!

  18. Only remember the 1 steam crane, went there with the Boiler inspectors once. Did other jobs at Woking station, mainly the goods lifts. I was based under the station at Waterloo, next to the BRS/Parcel vehicle repair shop.
  19. Fire training and the First aid were at CJ, out the station and turn right up the hill. Went there for both when I joined the ODM at Waterloo.
