Great start! In some of the last photos of Argyll Street, you could see another board with a platform on it. I thought it might be an extension, but no it is another complete layout! By the way I have started on the copy of Argyll Street version 1. The fact you completed version 4 just as I was cutting the wood doesn’t surprise me! You will probably complete this one as well before I start the scenic work!

This is the start of a N gauge layout. I had been follow Andy P with his Argyll Street in OO. I liked his initial plan and asked if I could copy it. He agreed! He then went on to modify it to be nothing like the original. So now I am not copying it at all! The size is 6’x18” and made from 9mm plywood screwed and glued. The track plan was layed out with flexy track to see it would fit. Andy had a board size of 10’x18”, so I could have done it in 5’x9” for a carbon copy. I had a 6’x18” board, I would have a bit more room to play with. I planned the layout to use trains with the length of a class 47 with seven 15’ wheelbases wagons (HEA,TTA, etc). This equivalent length can give: 3x mk2 coaches 3xGUV/BG 3xTEA tankers 3xFFA container flats. 2x two car DMU A sector plate was cut out of the back left hand side. It will have six tracks. Four for the yard and two for the passenger line at the back.

Fire extinguishers for layout rooms/ lofts
muddy water replied to muddy water's topic in Modelling musings & miscellany
From the original post that started this topic. The plumber did call the fire brigade who checked out the loft space and I guess scanned for any hot spots. (I was not present at the time) . So calling the fire brigade even if you think you have put out a fire in a loft space is a good idea! Nothing worse than going to bed and it reignites the fire in the middle of the night! -

Great idea, but is it not illegal to take water from a hydrant without a green metered stand pipe? The water company will understand what you are using it for and still send you a bill! -

So pipe smoking requires tea drinking. I do not smoke, so I am more likely to drench the plans by knocking over the cup of tea! -

Great sound advice! When I did my loft , I fitted a double pole switch to isolate the power from the 1st floor. The smoke alarm makes sense. Having one on every level of your house will help. Though you might have to cover it whilst you are airbrushing! ( don’t forget to uncover it when you have finished!) -

Powder or foam is best? considering loft can be classed as confined spaces. -
My parents were having their central heating system changed in their house. The plumber was changing the pipe layout in the airing cupboard which leads up into the loft to the large cold water tank. Using a blow torch to solder the joints. It was a windy day and the flame got drawn up through one of the holes. This caught on to some combustible debris and set the rafters on fire! Lucky the plumber was quick thinking and raced up into the loft with a bucket. Using the readily available water tank he was able to extinguish the flames. The battens and some tiles had to be replaced. This has got me thinking. What type and size of fire extinguishers would be right to have in loft/ layout rooms to bring a fire under control?

Would the AWS ramp for the signal be on the board or beyond the bridge? Also would it have two ramp/magnets for bi-directional operation? Just a thought. It might be just a model railway, but you made the time to make everything on it prototypical! -

Maybe a chain and padlock might help. Then you will need a man with bolt cutters, as they have lost the key! -

Great! Any chance of giving the dimensions of the microstrip section you used the detail the wagons? It will make shopping a lot easier. Thanks! -

I have hear that happen on a french branch layout at an exhibition. Saturday had one morning and one afternoon train. At 09:00hrs and 18:00hrs. Sunday had no service at all!! I think it was a good scenic model, so at least there was something to look at! -
Great to see this layout is being brought back to the exhibition circuit. Will look a bit different with the newer large rolling stock. Glad to see you removed the over scale leaves! Or are you going to change the season to autumn?

Ok. It is better not to rush it and have to repeat it later. Great progress. You might be the next Andy Peters! -

Did you manage to get one circuit working? Always good for moral. As long as the testing/playing does not get in the way of further construction! -

Not even a hanging basket of plastic flowers? ( love to see you fit real growing ones!) You might as well rip up the tarmac and paving slabs. Then just have mud on the platform!! -

Maybe you need to build a fancy coffee shop on the platform to tempt them off the train? -

But they did not get off the train! It is a it like when you go to a preserved railway line and they have not finished the second station. So the train goes into it but you are not allowed off! -

Can not see any passengers. Must be a route learning run! Well it is a new station, one of those modern ones , were they do not need ballast for the track! Guess you thought I had done that track plan , so you had to change it again! You are going to have to hurry if you want it for the 25th!
